Chapter 84 - night before the storm

after i had told the story of my life it was my turn to ask.

"I want you to tell me everything you know about luna."

he thought for a few seconds before he seemed to tell from memory, "luna, adopted daughter of Mr.stine. died 10 years ago when she was in her first year of middle school."

"her birth parents unknown."

"appeared in the orphanage which is 30 minutes away from here when she was 9. data before then doesn't exist. basically, she was a ghost before then."

"her adoption files were never submitted in the school as she had passed away before then. the only one who knew of luna's adoption is miss jasmine and a few others."

"can I know who these few others are ?"

"certainly, after you finish this case," he said and I frowned.

"and no chances luna survived. i have seen the photos."

"How did she die ?"

"fell from the stairs. they believed someone had pushed her but nevertheless all the suspects had alibies and the case was closed saying that the victim had slipped and fallen to her death."

"who were the suspects ?"

"I think you know" he said as we locked eyes for the first time since he had started talking.

"Mrs hazel, miss angela, Mr mark, Mr Edward, the principal," I said grimly.

"and Mrs ellen," he said.

"mrs ellen?" then it dawned on me

"the parent of the final victim."

"yes, frank."

"frank..." i felt like I had heard that name before but I could be wrong.

"any other information?"

"about who is the question."

there certainly are a lot of people I want to ask about but I guess I will just ask the ones cleo won't have the answers for.

"miss jasmine"

"classified" he said with a smirk

"i knew it" i yelled in my brain.

"will she be an obstacle?"

"no, she is but a spectator. anything else?"

"do you know who the killer is?"

"no."

" i think that's all. thanks," i said and left the premises.

i called max to request him to eat and finish the gadgets required for tomorrow then i called cleo.

"cleo, got the info?"

"yes, did you get anything useful from james?"

"yes actually. i will send the recording i took"

"he doesn't know you recorded him does he?"

"nope"

"sneaky. give me a few seconds to check."

after a minute cleo said, "hmm" a little annoyance in her voice.

"what happened?"

"the information is perfect but i have no idea how he got it. these are some classified stuff. took me two days to hack and find this."

"i might have an idea to how he got it"

"like to share"

"no, not right now"

"alright. i found more info on the orphanage. it was shut down a few years ago so currently abandoned. you might be able to find some clue of luna there because there is almost nothing about her in the systems."

"Alright got it." "are everyone ready for tomorrow?"

"me, yes. mia, didn't want to do it at first but now that she is the star of our performance, she is excited." "how are you dealing with anna?"

"i am going to right now." i said as i hung up and opened the cafe door.

inside anna and jack were talking to each although it looked like more of jack talking and anna blushing and stammering. i rolled my eyes and talked towards them.

"smootie?" jack asked as he say me

"no, two coffee."

jack raised his eyebrow but nevertheless went in the cafe kitchen to prepare.

i turned towards anna who i had ignored till now and said, "hi anna, have you come to a discussion?"

"no" she said.

"then we have nothing to talk i said as i sat on a chair waiting for my order to arrive.

"yes, we do" she said trying to look brave but it made me want to smile but i didn't, didn't want to spoil her big movement.

"about what?" i deadpanned

"i am going to help whether you like it or because i am your client and i have the right!" she said and left before i could respond.

"talk about a dramatic exit" i said staring at now closed door.

"don't tease her so much. she was so nervous at how it is going to go. besides instead of doing this elobrate plan of you telling me to tell her what to say, you could have just allowed her from the beginning."

"and why would i do that, it would spoil my 'i don't care about anyone' reputation" "besides i am not happy about her putting herself in danger." i say the secound part in a lower voice.

jack leaves the coffee near me and leaves the cafe. i could see jack talking to anna from the window. i heard how she told that she was so scared that her legs automatically started worked and she walked out. i chucked and pulled out piece of paper and wrote that i was leaving by the back door. i left the paper with the money and left.

when i reached the apartment i didn't even bother to check wether max was still sleeping in my house because i was sure he would be too busy working.

i used my extra key and entered his house. i directly went to his bedroom where he was busy tinkering something and loki was looking at everything with curiosity.

i place the coffee beside him "you are going to need that" i tod siting beside him.

and so we spent the entire day drinking coffee, and fixing the gadgets until they blew up in our face literally before we finally decided to take a break. at 9 we were done. all our weapons were ready. we just have to hope it all works according to our plan.

tomorrow the truth is finally going to be revealed.
