Xavier's girl

Chapter 60 - 15

Vanessa

Tears dropped as I held the pictures in my hands 'the surprise'. It was pictures of me in my apartment, in the cottage back in New Zealand. Xavier was watching me all these months, he knew where I was. There was a picture of me and Elijah, pictures of me and Amelia walking. Pictures of me half-naked walking around this apartment, pictures of me and Alan having dinner. I started feeling paranoid that he could be watching me at this moment. I look around the police department, waiting for him to come out of nowhere and drag me out. I was sitting at an office desk waiting for someone to see me.

I came to the police station to report him as a stalker, I have proved from the picture that he was stalking me. It was the only thing I could do now and hope a judge gives him a restraining order. Bouncing Amelia on my lap to stop her from crying, she's been agitated all morning. She had a fever last night and didn't get any sleep. Like she knew what was happening, that her father was crazy.

"Miss Morales?" a man appears in front of me looking down at the papers in his hands.

"That's me," I quickly wipe the tears away.

"I'm Detective Jack," he nods taking a seat.

"Morning," I greet Amelia's loud cries.

"It says here you are requesting a restraining order against your stalker?" the detective cringed at Amelia.

"Yes, I have proof." I push the pictures towards him.

"Proof?" Jack stares at the pictures confused.

"Yes, he's been watching and following me for over a year. He sent these pictures to my apartment."

"How do you know it's the same person?" Jack looks through the pictures.

"Because only one person cares enough to do that."

"I'm sorry Ms Morales but there's nothing I can do unless he commits an actual crime."

"Stalking isn't a crime?" I asked baffled.

"Have you been physically harmed by the person.?"

"No, but I kn...." I pause, had Xavier physical hurt me before?

"I'm sorry Ms Morales, there's nothing I can do." He taps on his desk, grimacing.

"Please you have to help me," I begged, this was my last option. I could feel the tears falling again.

"Okay, I will give you my card. You call me when you have strong evidence then I promise you will get your restraining order." He lays the card in my palms, trying to ignore the tears falling down my face.

"Thank you," I stare down at his card.

I collect the pictures, dumping them into Amelia's diaper bag. Making my way out of the station, was a waste of my time. They won't do anything to help me get away from him, I couldn't run away now. I had only 600 dollars in my purse. That would last us a week or two maybe if I spend wisely. Which was something I have never had to do. I had no plans for what to do when we run out, there no way I would beg Xavier for help.

It was late in the afternoon, I don't intend to go back to that apartment. The only place I knew I was safe from his eyes was my old house, out of town. Holding Amelia against my chest as a hail down a cab, she felt a little warm against me. If she gets worse I will take her to the hospital. A cab pulls up just as I spot a man watching us from across the street, he was resting against a black car staring my way.

"Ma, you getting in?" The cab driver yells "can't wait all day."

"Yes sorry," I got in, at the same moment the man watching got in his car.

"Address?" I look at the crabby driver through the clear glass separating us.

"Rock Crest, 7531," I murmur. Wishing that man wasn't going to follow us.

~~~~~~~~~~
".... fifty bucks"
"I'm sorry what?" I was pulled back into the car, the whole ride I was checking behind the cab. Looking for the unknown black car, I lost it a few minutes ago. I didn't realise we pulled into my home driveway. Peeking down at Amelia who was fast asleep on my chest.
"That would be fifty bucks," the cab driver repeats
"One sec," I rummage through the diaper bag looking for the cash I had.
"Ah," I pull out the bill smiling at him "here you go." Pushing it through the tiny space.
"Can you wait till I get inside before you leave?" I hesitatingly ask, I feel very paranoid.
"Sure," the Hispanic man shrugs staring at me weirdly.
Quickly exiting his cab, I speed walk to the door. Checking behind me, the yellow cab was still packed there. Just as I opened the door the close of tires screeching away fills my ears, a few seconds later Amelia was up screaming at me.
"Shhh...." I bounce her around in my arms as I close the door behind us.
"I know baby." I kiss her head, dropping my things on the counter.
"Are you hungry?" I ask, staring down at her teary red face.
"The same baby, I will make your dinner." Placing her on my hips, praying I had a bottle for her.
I opened the fridge, seeing all the unopened old baby food in the fridge. The house furniture was still covered in clear plastic wrap, some boxes on the floor. I need to do some cleaning tonight and groceries shopping.
"Mummy has no food," I say to myself. I move to the barstool so I could breastfeed Amelia. Instead of sucking, she cried louder pressing her face into my breast.
"What's wrong Amelia?" I ask getting worried. She didn't feel warm anymore, I touch her forehead.
"Shh," I get up hoping moving around would calm her down. My new phone screen came up before it started ringing. Amelia cries got louder, making me wince. Picking up my phone without checking who was calling.
"Yes?" I breathe out, still shhing Amelia.
"Why is she crying?" I stop moving when I heard the devils' voice coming out of my phone.
"Xavier?" I asked confused, I changed my number. How the hell did he get it.
"Amelia please," I move her to my hips. Her face was getting red by the second.
"Where are you?" Xavier ask
"None of your business," I huff out trying to breastfeed Amelia again, moving to the sitting room.
"I'm hanging up," I tell him.
"It is my business, Vanessa." He says short.
"It's not, I told you I want nothing to do with you." I reminded him.
"I went to the police today, to report your crimes. I should be getting a restraining order soon." I lied
"She stopped crying?" He noticed, ignoring what I said.
"I'm feeding her," Amelia finally accepted it.
"Vanessa, I need to know where you are."
"What the man you hired lost me?" I remembered the man from the road.
"What man?" I felt the tension in his voice.
"The man with the black car, I'm not stupid Xavier I saw him. Next time hire someone who can be more discreet." I huff
"Where the fuck are you Vanessa." Xavier yells
"I'm at home, calm down." I roll my eyes. Did he think I ran away?
"I can't exactly run, no money," I say bitterly.
"You aren't in your apartment, stop fucking lying." He growls into the phone.
"I'm at home Xavier, the home you have no way of making yours. Where you don't have eyes."
"Your back at rock crest?" He whispers his voice giving out at the end.
"Yeah, why?" I ask my guard up.
"Get the fuck out Vanessa," he yells making me jump.
"Why, so you can spy on me?"
"Vanessa listens to me, you can't hate me right now. I need you to listen to me, you....."
"No Xavier, I will not listen to you. I do hate you, I am not leaving this house." What the hell was his problem.
"Vanessa, please. Get out, just get out. I will give you back your money, everything thing I took from you. I just want you and our baby to get out of that house." I pale for the sound of his voice, something didn't feel right.
"Xavier? What did you do?" I whisper getting goosebumps. The house abruptly felt eerily calm.
"Fuck Vanessa! I'm sorry, I promised nothing will happen to you again."
"What did you do Xavier!" I yell, knowing something bad was about to happen.
"Baby, just...." dialling tone fills my ears. The phone went silent.
"Xavier?" I look down at my phone, the screen was dark. Shit, my phone was dead.
"Fuck." I whisper. Maybe I was just being paranoid, maybe Xavier wanted to freak me out into leaving this house. This was just part of his plan to get me back.
"I will be right back," I kiss Amelia on the head before placing her on the couch.
Walking to the kitchen counter where my bag was placed. My charger was in there, I could hear Amelia fussing from the couch.
"Yes!" I climax when I see my charger. Spinning around, suddenly everything went dark.
"Shit. Today isn't my day." I look up at the ceiling. The lights were out.
"Great, this is just fantastic," I murmured, opening the drawer for the torchlight. No luck, the sun was setting by the minute. I need to find a source of light.
"Amelia?" I called expecting a response, I couldn't hear her babbling anymore.
I froze in my spot, all the blood in my body turning cold. I knew this feeling, I felt it in the cabin. I don't think I'm alone in the house. I dropped my phone sprinting into the sitting room. I drop to my knees when I see Amelia sucking on her toes still where I placed her.
"Oh thank god." I plucked her up, I was being very paranoid.
"This all your dadd..."
I paused when I heard a creaking noise comes from the basement door, I glanced at the door slowly my heart thumping against my chest. I glared at the front door, a few feet away like the basement door.. Arising, ready to make a run for it when the front door crashed open.
