Chapter 26 Part 1: Blue Flame Swordsman

“Haha… hah…”

I can’t help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. The item that would have been the quest reward appeared here. The 「Holy Grail 」 broke through the ceiling of the top floor and was engraved into the sky. The ceiling collapsed, and the building, which was already weakened by the fire, began to crumble. Oddly enough, Dahlia was floating midair while the ground caved in. I used my skill to escape before I hit the ground and I appeared next to Hye-won.

“Seo…”

“A Saintess has appeared! A new Saintess has been born, ah!”

“We must move the new Saintess first!”

Everyone was looking at the 「Holy Grail 」 in the sky. Now they all know that a new saintess was born. The old one from before was not even worth as a hostage. In a flash, the paladins picked-up their swords. My mind was still reeling, but the situation didn’t give me a moment’s respite. I wondered why the 「Holy Grail 」 that was supposed to be our reward for clearing this gate was there. What would happen to Dahlia? And what was all this madness all about, but I had to push these distracting thoughts away.

If I don’t swing my Karambit now, I will die.

“Seo-ha, the last child escaped earlier and came out. The gate is already cleared! If we can just get out of here, it will all be over!”

“Where are you going!”

The captain blocked our way. Countless other paladins followed.

“You filthy heretics! You think we’re going to let you escape unharmed? We’ll cut your heads off and sacrifice them to the new Saintess!”

“You’re a sweet talker.”

“Your tongue grows longer when you’re cornered.”

“I’ve always been a sweet talker, you bastard!”

Boom! The two clashed with their swords. There was a sharp clash of metal against metal. I swung my karambit, dodging the paladins as they charged at me, but I was outnumbered and my karambit was at a great disadvantage to the barrage of the paladins. The long blade of a sword grazed my cheek, and a searing pain shot through me. One more cut above it and I would have been blinded. I was horrified for a moment, but there was no time to stop. I slashed the karambit into the paladin’s sword, blocking its blade. The panicked paladin strained to swing his sword, but my karambit blocked it again. In a flash, the paladin was within the reach of my Karambit.

“Hahhghhh!”

The paladin swung his other hand, that wasn’t gripping his sword at me. However, I was already behind his back. As he fumbled to find my figure who suddenly vanished. I stabbed my karambit through the gap in his armor. As I severed the artery in his neck, there was a loud clatter as the iron armor splattered to the floor. The paladins flinched back at the sight. They started circling around me instead.

“Who’s Next?”

I taunted lightly. I was pushed to the limit, physically and mentally.

Huff, huff, huff.

The sound of my breathing echoed inside my head. I’ve never been the type for long-term battles. Physical combat is not really my forte. Especially when I had to fight against the paladins, whose classes are in between tanks and damage dealers.

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh. The sound of wind cutting through the air rang out several times. I used my skills as quick and frequent as possible. Basically, my skills excel on single combat, so I was able to buy time by utilizing them. I frantically swept across the battlefield. I felt like I was dancing a solo sword dance with blades whizzing all around me. They tried to keep up with me, but were never able to catch me, because…

“You… Little rat!”

A paladin muttered to himself. He swings his sword at me again, and was annoyed by my evasion. Of course, I was already gone.

“Hmph…!”

I see myself reflected inside his eyes. The blue light in his eyes was haunting. Only the blue runic symbols were shining clearly on his sweaty, and ashen face. When he finally found me and looked at me in surprise, his throat was already cut in an instant.

Tuduk. The half-decapitated body rolled on the floor. This space is mine. They can’t catch me, at least not as long as I’m ‘Interfering‘ with this space.

I don’t know if it’s sweat or blood that kept dripping into my eyes but I still wiped it away roughly with my sleeve. There were still a lot of them in front of me to kill.

“Huh…. Huh..!”

The Paladin Captain facing off against Hyewon was actually quite skilled, worthy of his title. The swords pointing at each other were sharp. They were aiming for each other’s gaps, blocking the opponent, and stabbing again.

The whole sequence repeated itself a couple of times. I looked at Hyewon-Unnie then stopped and faced forward again. I could see the paladins approaching me step-by-step. Although I was a little hesitant because of the corpses at my feet. I couldn’t afford to be distracted.

I was exhausted, but… I could still hold on. I had to. Just a little longer, and I’ll… Be able to cut them all down, and then this gate will finally be cleared, and then it will all be over, and I’ll have the 「Holy Grail 」, and everything will be… Everything will be….

I was barely flailing my immobile limbs with that hope when I heard the sound of hooves in the distance.

“At last!”

“Reinforcements! Reinforcements are here!”

Reinforcements? My vision went dark. Now I really, really felt like I was going to collapse. My breath was already up to my chin. There was little sensitivity in my grip on the karambit. One slash and a terrible pain shot up my shoulder from my elbow.

My vision blurred and I was on the edge of life and death several times. Reinforcements? I stared through the door in disbelief.

Reinforcements on horseback appeared in the distance. Paladins peered hopefully outside the door. Damn it. The least I can do now is take the paladins in front of me as my companions in death. Cluck, cluck, cluck.

“Ugh?”

“Why is there only one… ?”

A single red-armored paladin was riding up on horseback. It was a ridiculous thing to call it ‘Reinforcements‘. The red-armored paladin leapt off his horse and headed straight for Hyewon-Unnie. The height and acceleration of his horse was neither too risky nor dangerous.

“Hyewon-Unnie…!”

I was almost out of mana to activate my skills. I managed to squeeze out a throaty cry, but he was already there. A horse passed by, obscuring the two of them. And the next moment, lying on the ground was…

“Captain!”

“Why!”

“What, what, what are you doing!”

The Captain was lying decapitated. But the knight on horseback was clearly dressed as a paladin. The Order’s crest was emblazoned with a near-white color, and the knight who decapitated the captain turned his horse around and headed towards Hyewon again. Only then did I see a faint blue glow on his sword. A blue flame.

A man who could emit blue flame in his sword. As far as I know, there is only one. A swordsman of the same caliber as the guild he belongs to. He can channel blue flames into his sword using his Unique skill, 「Flaming Blade」. The paladin removed his helmet, revealing his characteristically expressionless face.

Jeon Chung-Woon! The Ace of the Red Flame. The Blue Flame Swordsman.

The man who hadn’t been seen since the Hidden Gate was opened had finally appeared.

He was also dressed as a paladin!

“Am I a little late?”

“Ha……Asshole … You’re terribly late!”

Hye-won playfully slapped him. Her appearance didn’t match her cheerful voice. Like me, she was exhausted from the long battle.

TL NOTE:

Wow Jeon Chung-Woon’s entrance was so cool~
