Chapter 41 Part 2: Catching up

The guilds would take turns holding briefing sessions for a week in the evenings after classes. Since I was the top of the recruitment competition, I can attend them.

The large guilds were pushed to the back of the line, and today’s guild would be a medium-sized guild. Smaller guilds don’t even qualify for a briefing session. The front of the hall is crowded as we take inventory of the number of people attending the briefing. There were a lot of people adding their names to the waiting list.

“Wow….”

“Everyone is so enthusiastic.”

A couple of people said they wanted to come to the presentation, so I joined them on the way, and they looked exhausted.

“I’ve had a long day in class and I could really use a break.”

“Me too…”

I was exempt from practical classes today, but not the two of them, so they had every right to be tired.

“If you’re tired, maybe you should go inside and rest.”

“Wouldn’t it be better to go to the briefing anyway?”

“Tomorrow’s an open class, and it’s better for you to recover and be in good shape than to sit through a lecture.”

Of course, as with any company, the “I only want your guild!” shouting from the rooftops is a huge plus, but if they’re of similar skills, they’ll pick someone who’s more likely to be loyal to them. But I’m sure they’re both quite capable within the academy.

‘Kim Tae-byung has been through a statistical victory inside the gate, so he’s no match for the average new hunter.’

Of course, it remains to be seen if he can overcome the psychological factor. In fact, the talent that was more coveted than Kim Tae-byung was Song Da-jung.

‘Once she blossoms into a blacksmith, her value will be incomparable to that of an ordinary tanker.’

Didn’t they say that even a master writer doesn’t need to cover their brushes, but hunters cover their items. Product developers, especially those who sell items to hunters, are one of the professions that don’t get screwed over.

“Oh, right… It’s an open class starting tomorrow! I’ve been getting beaten up like crazy today.”

“Still, I’ve heard that very few guilds come on the first day. Don’t they usually come on the last day when the trainees compete against each other?”

“That’s true.”

The culmination of a trainee’s life is the final tournament, where they are judged on their performance in the first half of their training and pitted against suitable opponents. Fighting against similar opponents allows them to fully showcase their skills, and based on that, guilds will send them love calls.

“I’m going to go inside and rest, what about you two?”

“I’m going to go in and rest, too. I need to get ready for tomorrow.” I said, but I don’t want to listen anyway.

“I haven’t heard much about the other guilds, so I’m willing to listen.”

He had a point, and I nodded. Da-jung and I headed to the girls’ dormitory, hoping the day would pass uneventfully, but apparently peace was not to be.

“You should come out.”

“Huh?”

“I know you’re hiding.”

As soon as I finished speaking, a person appeared out of thin air. It was the ‘Stealth’ skill.

“How did you know?”

“You’re under-cultivated, I can easily tell.”

The man in front of me frowned at my words. Was his pride hurt? But it was true. Crude stealth skills.

“You’re as confident as I’ve heard.”

“I told you, she’s an assh–le.”

Behind them, a grim looking man came into view. It was a man with twin swords at his waist. It was Kim Ju-il.

“What do you want with me?”

“You know what we came here for and you still pretend you don’t, huh. I guess you have to be that shameless to pretend to be the First Place Recruit.”

It was a conspiracy theory. He hadn’t given up yet.

“You have the Blue Serpent on your back, right? You could even tamper with the examination rules, and even if we file a formal complaint, we can only get unfavorable answers. I guess power is really good.”

It’s not because of Blue Serpent, but probably because of Choi Seok-chul.

“I’m going to request a duel with you. I don’t know about Lee Eun-Woo, but you’re no match for me! If I embarrass you in front of everyone who’s gathered to watch the duel, won’t they get the message?”

I barely hold back the laughter that threatens to escape.

‘A duel?’ Before the tournament even starts, trainees are given the opportunity to showcase their dueling skills if they wish. Most trainees try not to show their strength right before the tournament, but just like now, trainees with hurt feelings within the training center would often have a duel.

Just what I wanted. He was already getting on my nerves, and I was getting annoyed.

“I’m looking forward to that.”

I meant it.

(T/N: Yea freaking beat his a–s Seo-Ha! Beat that ungrateful scum!)
