2. A Precious Night

Su Jie’s first reaction was to push him away but then the Guqin Master’s order came to his mind, which brought his hand to a pause. He then closed his eyes to hide his despair and sorrow.

This was Prince Qin’s order, an order he must obey…

Prince Qin asked him to gain Xiao Shengnian’s trust, then he had to.

“Go wait in the House of Auspice,” Xiao Shengnian ordered after the kiss.

Su Jie didn’t say a word. He just walked out and closed the door, silent all along.

House of Auspice was where Prince Rui lived. He was led to the house by several servants who soon left. Inside the room hot bath water was prepared, incense was being burnt, the strong fragrance of which made him frown.

He didn’t like the smell. So he threw the incense burner out. He put on a simple white robe after the bath and lay straight down on the bed, his mind in a mess. He had deep feelings for his master Prince Qi, who however pushed him into Prince Rui’s arms.

This was a cruel mission, yet a mission he couldn’t refuse.

Xiao Shengnian came in about an hour, a trace of weariness on his face. Seeing Su Jie seemingly asleep, Xiao Shengnian was a bit vexed as he had been served and the center of attention since young because of his noble birth. Never dared anyone sleep first without waiting for him.

As expected, this boy he picked up by the road had no sense of a good servant.

Xiao Shengnian’s voice thus sounded cold when he spoke, “Get up and help me undress.”

Su Jie was wide awake but pretended not knowing Xiao Shengnian’s arrival because of his low spirit.

Hearing Xiao Shengnian’s voice, he got up and walked behind Xiao Shengnian, “Do you want me to help you relax a bit?”

Xiao Shengnian’s response was a cold “H’m”.

Su Jie then skillfully massaged his shoulder. Xiao Shengnian however asked after a while of silence, “Did you do this often? You seemed quite adept at this.”

His words brought Su Jie to a sudden pause. He used to massage Prince Qin often, who though disliked physical contact, somehow only allowed him to do it.

“I used to do this for my parents,” Su Jie answered in an unhurried manner.

“Now you choose to stay here, what about your parents?”

Su Jie didn’t give quick response this time, instead, he remained silent for quite a while.

He was now under the name of Wen Nianxuan, a person being haunted by killers. Though he had arranged everything for this identity, still there were some details that he must be careful with so as not to disclose anything suspicious.

Given the current situation, he must show his pain and wrath for losing his parents. “They were killed!” Su Jie uttered these words through gritted teeth, his body trembling out of rage and pain, and his look sorrowful and desperate.

Xiao Shengnian turned around to observe Su Jie’s reaction to the question, however, his heart somehow softened upon seeing the despair on his face. Without much hesitation, he pulled Su Jie into his arms and patted gently on his back, comforting in a gentle voice, “Someday, you’ll be able to take revenge.”

Su Jie gradually resumed calmness in his arms. And the room turned quiet also somewhat romantic. Su Jie could even feel Xiao Shengnian’s strong heartbeat.

“The night is getting deep,” Xiao Shengnian’s voice rang by Su Jie’s ear, tender and clear like the flowering water under the sunlight at dusk.

Su Jie remained silent and closed his eyes, resigned to his coming fate.

Xiao Shengnian slowly brought the boy in his arms to the bed.

Tree leaves swayed by the night wind outside as the bed curtain dropped to conceal the lovebirds on bed.

Under the silvery moonlight, the intoxicating night just began.
