23. Enemies on a Narrow Road

Translator: Flying Lines

For the past two days Su Jie had been treated with great care for his injuries and respected by all in the prince’s mansion. Since Prince Rui had no concubine nor any other toy-boys, Su Jie was now the only master in the mansion.

The only annoyance was Zhui Xing, who just wouldn’t let him get out of his sight.

“I’m going out,” Su Jie said to the guards trying to stop him.

The guards felt quite troubled as in normal circumstance, no one in the mansion could get out without His Highness’s permission. However, rumor had it that this boy was His Highness’s favorite, which rendered them in a dilemma as to whether they should let him out.

“I have Zhui Xing with me. Nothing bad will happen.” Su Jie said with a slight frown.

That gave the guards a fright as Zhui Xing was always by His Highness’s side. Now he was standing behind Su Jie with that cold and poker face, which led the guards to believe that His Highness had always given Su Jie the freedom to get out. Under such circumstances, they dared not stop him.

Zhui Xing raised no objection to Su Jie’s decision as he was used to taking orders instead of interfering with his master’s decision. His Highness had ordered him to stay with Su Jie and he would do just that to protect him. As to what Su Jie wanted to do, that was not what he should care about.

Therefore, he just wore that poker face and turned a blind eye to the guards’ inquiring look, which led the guards to falsely believe that Prince Rui left Zhui Xing to show his love and support to Su Jie.

Su Jie turned back and glanced at Zhui Xing while sighing in his heart, “We both are loyal to our masters, yet I have my own styles of doing things. I would take Prince Qin’s orders but I have my own ideas. While Zhui Xing just follow Prince Rui’s orders mechanically.”

Su Jie wandered aimlessly in the street when he came to a stop before the House of Intoxicating Spring. Zhui Xing, who had been following closely behind like a ghost, couldn’t help but twist the corner of his lips when seeing the name of the house.

Having stood at the door for a while, Su Jie lifted his steps to leave when a clear but loud voice came, “Stop, the one in red.”

Su Jie was caught in a daze when his steps came to a halt. Before he could recall where he had heard this familiar voice, some family retainers rushed over and surrounded he and Zhui Xing.

Zhui Xing knitted his brows but held back his impulse to attack. After years of following Prince Rui’s orders, he was now waiting for Su Jie to give him the order or he would just stand and watch.

“Hahhh, I found you!” There came a youth of Su Jie’s age followed by a group of family retainers. The youth was in gorgeous robe with a trace of maliciousness between his brows. He had a good-look face and a fair complexion. He glared at Su Jie, rage burning in his eyes, “I got you! You can’t escape this time.”

Su Jie remained calm while Zhui Xing’s eyes sharpened as he shot the domineering youth a cold glance.

“What do you want from me?” Su Jie’s lips curved into a faint smile as he said in a casual tone, “Another good beating?”

Su Jie had met this boy three months ago when he was ordering his servants to bully a stall owner. They even went far as to push the weak mother and daughter of the stall to the ground.

Su Jie was then on his way to familiarize himself with all the roads around Prince Rui’s mansion. Furious, he gave this youth and his two servants a good beating. After that, he even escorted the mother and daughter to the Yang city in case they might encounter other trouble along the way. Su Jie had wandered around the place in disguise after getting back from Yang city, which was why the youth in gorgeous robe failed to spot him for the past three whole months. Ever since then, the youth in gorgeous robe would bring with him more family retainers every time he went out to search for Su Jie to get his revenge.

Now having found Su Jie, the youth couldn’t help but feel smug as he believed Su Jie and Zhui Xing wouldn’t be able to fight with so many family retainers he had brought.

“Hump! This time I’m give you a good beating.” Probably having been reminded of his miserable suffer last time, the youth sneered, his face alternating from rage and shame.
