1 Year Of Beginning

Chapter 27 - New Year

"You sure take your time," Zhang Liang commented when Feng Mian walked into the room. Her eyes widened when she saw Zhang Liang sitting in front of the table with his laptop ready in front of him. He was still working even though it was already this late at night.

Feng Mian smiled. "I waited until my mother wake up after the operation, so it takes some time."

"You should rest."

"Yes."

Rushing to the bathroom, Feng Mian thought about their relationsh.i.p.s. So far, it didn't look like Zhang Liang had any other plan other than having her holding the status as his wife. She didn't even have anything to do aside from staying in his house.

Wait, why did she feel that she was a freeloader?

Shaking her head, Feng Mian pushed the thoughts to the back of her mind. She didn't want to think so much about it.

Time passed.

Even after days staying in Zhang Liang's house, Feng Mian was not given anything to do. She was free to do anything she wished, so she spent her time finishing the three paintings and decorated her studio. At the same time, she made sure to visit her mother occasionally.

Finally, New Year arrived.

"Are you going to work today?" Feng Mian asked when she saw Zhang Liang wake up early. As usual, the alarm woke her up too.

Zhang Liang nodded. He didn't treat Feng Mian coldly but not too warm too and just acted like a normal 'friend,' though Feng Mian highly doubted that she could get a friend like Zhang Liang in her entire life if not for that accursed day.

"The sweet was released two days ago. I need to watch the sales and make the necessary advertis.e.m.e.nt."

Because he was aiming for New Year, the new type of sweet was released not long ago. He wanted to use this chance to promote the new sweet right when everyone was coming home to visit. Usually, they would stay a day or two because they would have a family dinner. Sweet would be perfect to give to children especially when they visited for red packets.

Because of that, Zhang Liang planned on making use of today well and already began his move from a few days before.

Feng Mian nodded. "Don't overwork yourself."

"I'm fine."

The two's conversation ended there. Feng Mian would not pry into Zhang Liang's habit and only gave a slight reminder. At the very least, she had gotten more comfortable staying around Zhang Liang even though her mind kept on reminding her about their difference in status.

As she was not a child, Feng Mian wouldn't go around asking for a red packet. Truthfully, as long as one was not married, they could get a red packet but Feng Mian's face was not that thick to ask for one. Besides, the only relative she had was her aunt, whose economy was only average.

They barely contacted each other, so Feng Mian didn't bother.

After her breakfast, Feng Mian headed to the hospital once more. Seeing her mother's healthier complexion, her expression naturally brightened.

"There's no need for you to visit me so early, is there?" Lin San was helpless when she looked at her daughter.

Feng Mian laughed. "It's only natural that I'm going to visit you when I have time, right? The doctor told me that the kidney match, so there shouldn't be any problem, Mom."

"I'm still too lazy to move around. I don't feel like I have much energy too."

Hearing that, Feng Mian felt her heart ache. Even though she knew that her mother's body was still very weak, she was hoping that her mother could be healthy again. In the past, it was her mother who always stayed very healthy and would accompany her even when she was being very naughty.

Feng Mian missed those days very much.

Lin San raised her fingers and flicked Feng Mian's forehead.

Flick!

"Mom!"

"Don't make that expression. This is why you should hurry and find a boyfriend so that I won't be worried about you," Lin San said amusedly.

Feng Mian forced a smile on her lips. She really wanted to tell her mother that she was already married even if it was only for a year. However, she wouldn't be able to say that to her mother. She didn't want to make her sad.

"Mom, I…."

"Don't tell me that you're busy with your work. I have been telling you that you should move from that company. What kind of company is that? Overworking their employees…."

Hearing her mother nagged, Feng Mian didn't know whether to cry or laugh. She might have suffered a bit in the company, but it was not for naught. She learned so many important things in the company, which also allowed her to have decent skills in designing.

More importantly, she was able to experiment with colors freely during her free time with the leftovers…

*cough*

She would never tell that to Zhang Liang, though.

"Anyway, you're not planning on spending the new year in the hospital, right?" Lin San looked at Feng Mian suspiciously.

Feng Mian forced a smile out. "I think so?"

In the next minute, she was kicked out of the room by her mother.
