136. A Violent Temper (2)

Translator: Dragon Rider

Of course Luo Yan wouldn’t swallow the humiliation He Zheng inflicted on him. Clenching his teeth, he recollected that He Yu, his sect-sister, had once told him this He Zheng guy had always been a good-for-nothing, who not only couldn’t cultivate but also bullied her very often. Luo Yan had a sneaking affection for He Yu, so he’d believed her one-sided statement and detested He Zheng.

Though briefly startled by He Zheng’s sword strike, Luo Yan was not afraid to fight him in the belief that He Zheng had passed the interview by the back door. Bring it on!

“So be it! You think you stand a chance of besting me?”

He Zheng’s apathetic eyes raked him from head to toe.

Tao Wujiu had an inkling that things were taking an unfavorable turn. There had always been enmity between the Tigers and Dragons Mountain and the Qingwei Sect. If the two of them settled this matter with a fair fight and nobody got hurt, there would be no problem; but if anything bad happened, it might trigger a strife between the two sects. They were still waiting for the training to start; if by any chance this matter escalated into something more serious, there would be a very high risk that they, innocent bystanders, would end up being implicated.

As a result, Tao Wujiu hurriedly rose to his feet and made an effort to smooth things over. “Haha, what are you talking about? Judging from this sword strike, I’m pretty sure that He Zheng is an excellent exorcist.” Tao Wujiu intended to gracefully pull out the Shadow Sword out of the wall and then return it to He Zheng to ease the tension. He walked up to the Shadow Sword and raised his hand. “Guys, we’re here to have a dinner party. It would be so undignified if we end up having a fight. We’ll be fellow trainees in the future, and we’ll have tons of opportunities to have a competition. The next time when we are on a mission, we may have a competition and see who kill the most demons, which will make a lot more sense!”

Saying this, he held the hilt of the sword and gave it a sharp pull.

The sword, which was supposed to be pulled out, wouldn’t budge. Tao Wujiu felt a trifle awkward. “I didn’t exert my strength. Let me try again.”

With that Tao Wujiu gave it another pull, but unexpectedly, the sword was still stuck fast in the wall.

The slight embarrassment in the mood deepened significantly.

Chen Qianlin was standing on the side looking on. “Stop pulling it. The Shadow Sword does the bidding of nobody but its master. You are not its master. There’s no way it’ll obey you.” There was unmistakable displeasure in Chen Qianlin’s tone. Like He Zheng, he was also a cultivator of both Fu-craft and swordcraft, and his family, in particular, was quite famous for swordcraft and possessed swords of all descriptions, one of which compared with the Shadow Sword, but it was not in Chen Qianlin’s hands.

In this regard, He Zheng had an edge over him!

Even Wei Cheng had heard of how much power the Shadow Sword held.

All others were now looking at He Zheng with quite different eyes. The Shadow Sword, one of the best swords in the world, was actually in He Zheng’s hands.

Curiously enough, ever since the day He Zheng cut his finger on the Shadow Sword and accidentally dripped some blood on the blade, the connection between him and the Shadow Sword, he felt, had been growing increasingly stronger. Sometimes his will power alone was enough to unsheathe the Shadow Sword. A moment ago, for example, he had been annoyed by Luo Yan but hadn’t decided to fight him. However, with this thought in mind, the Shadow Sword had shot out automatically.

He Zheng raised his hand in the direction of the Shadow Sword, which, as if having telepathically sensed its master’s will, directly pulled itself out of the wall and flew back into He Zheng’s hand. Its blade disappeared, leaving only the hilt. He Zheng swung the sword backwards into the sheath and put it away.

Such was the grace with which He Zheng had done this that nobody in the room still held suspicion that he’d passed the interview by the back door. Moreover, they were now very interested in him. He Zheng, thinking that all these people believed he had passed the interview through the back door, decided to leave this dinner party, but unexpectedly, Tao Wujiu burst into hearty laugh.

“Haha… That’s very impressive, He Zheng! I always know that Supt. Li’s partner is no mean cultivator.”

Several of these people were locals in the Coastal City. Seeing what He Zheng had just done, they were also amazed. Originally they had indeed thought that He Zheng had passed the interview by the back door, but now it seemed that this good-for-nothing of He family had figured something out and was now really capable of cultivating.

In the realm of exorcism, powers meant everything. All the others in this room dismissed their doubts and suspicions from their minds, and Luo Yan’s efforts to make mischief ended up in vain. Instead of alienating He Zheng, they all fell into animated conversation with him.

Lan Bai who had been in high spirits a moment ago, however, appeared to be in deep dejection.

Seeing the look on her face, Kang Ba who was well-disposed towards Lan Bai all along gave her a gentle push on the shoulder and asked, “Is anything bothering you, Lan Bai? You seem absent-minded.”

“Nothing.” Lan Bai forced a smile, her eyes resting on He Zheng who had just sat back into his seat. It had come as a total surprise to her that He Zheng had already gotten married.

The dinner party livened up once again, everybody enjoying the food. They were now much more acquainted with each other, and some of them were quite curious about the Shadow Sword of He Zheng.

When He Zheng had been a childe of a wealthy family, he’d spent most of his time having fun with those unsavory friends of his. Though happy, he’d felt rather unfulfilled. But at this dinner party, with Jin Qianlai making frivolous jokes, Kang Ba’s loud and hearty laughter, Tao Wujiu lightening the mood, and their common interests, He Zheng found chatting with them exceptionally relaxing, so he gradually got off his high horse and enjoyed eating and drinking with them.

Except for Luo Yan’s leaving halfway through the party and Chen Qianlin who’d been holding himself aloof all along, everything was quite pleasant.

In fact, Luo Yan hadn’t left. He sent He Yu a text message informing her of what had happened at the dinner party.

Unsurprisingly, after He Yu read the text message, the whole He family fell into total confusion.
