In He family.

“Mom!” After reading the text message, He Yu stormed to the doorway of Qiao Peiyu’s bedroom on the second floor only to find that the door was closed. She stamped her foot in anger and smacked a fist onto the door. “MOM! OPEN UP! THIS IS REALLY BAD!”

He Jin’s death had been a heavy blow to Qiao Peiyu. Although she had managed to force herself out of the grief and it had taken her quite some time, Qiao Peiyu still couldn’t completely get over He Jin’s miserable death.

The more so, the deeper her hatred for He Zheng went in her. Qiao Peiyu had lost her marbles. She’d never realized that it was He Jin’s insatiability which had led to his death, that he had only himself to blame. Instead, she believed that He Zheng was the one who should be held responsible for the whole thing. Had it not been for He Zheng, He Jin would never have risked colluding with demons to retaliate against him!

On hearing her daughter’s voice, Qiao Peiyu gathered her thoughts together, rigidly flexed her arms and then slowly walked to the door.

“MOM! OPEN UP!” He Yu, consumed with anger, kept hammering the door with her fists.

Finally, the door opened.

He Yu, heedless of anything else, hurriedly raised her cellphone for Qiao Peiyu to see the text message, a tic hideously going in her cheek with rage. “Mom, this is bad! This is really bad. He Zheng the good-for-nothing actually… actually started cultivating. On top of that, he’s even joined the Special Talents Training Program (STTP)! It turns out that Li Zong knew everything. They’ve been keeping it back from us all along. Li Zong definitely has intervened… I was wondering why that good-for-nothing agreed to be a man’s wife so willingly! Now it all makes sense!”

At the sound of He Zheng’s name, a menacing look flitted across Qiao Peiyu’s face which had gone noticeably older in the past few days.

“He Zheng… can cultivate now?” After so many days without speaking, Qiao Peiyu’s voice had gone hoarse and sounded fairly strange.

“Yes, Mom. You have to figure something out immediately. That good-for-nothing was cocky enough when he was incapable of cultivating, and now… If dad finds out about it, things would get even worse. Dad is bent on currying favor with Li Zong. For Li Zong’s benefit alone, Dad would definitely give that good-for-nothing a lot of special treatment. We’re not even allowed to lay any unfavorable comments on that good-for-nothing at home now!”

A sneer curled the corner of Qiao Peiyu’s mouth, a cold look tinged with venom in her eyes. “Who does he think he is?”

“Tell me about it. Mom, you’ve got to do something about it,” said He Yu beseechingly, holding Qiao Peiyu’s hand.

Qiao Peiyu came around from her grief and patted He Yu’s hand, a hint of life finally appearing on her face. “Give me some time to think about it.”

Though unwilling to wait any longer, He Yu who was still obedient to Qiao Peiyu repeatedly nodded.

And then Qiao Peiyu told He Yu to go back first. On returning to her room, He Yu who was getting angrier instead of cooling down dashed everything on her desk to the ground.

Right at this moment, He Yu’s cellphone screen lit up. Though she was in a foul mood, the special ringtone instantly calmed her down somewhat. She quickly ran to the bedside, picked up her cellphone and saw that the name displayed on the screen was Zhou Yihao.

In a gloomy room, the man wearing a pair of gold-rimmed spectacles leaned against the wall, cutting a sorry figure. He exhaled deeply, lowered his head and found that there was a large hollow in his chest. This wound had been inflicted on him by the man of SMB who’d caught He Jin.

‘Damn you, Zhou Yihao!’

A flicker of resentment crossed the shadow-demon’s eyes.

Because of what he’d done in the construction site of Zu family, staff members of SMB had been trying to track him down all along. When he went to Qin family that day, Zhou Yihao had him filmed by a camera and laid a trap which allowed SMB to find out about his whereabouts. Had he not been vigilant enough, he would have some time ago died by those people’s swords which had been specially enchanted to kill demons.

Though he’d escaped, the price had been quite heavy.

Demonic Qi was churning in the hollow in the shadow-demon’s breast, who was feebly lying at the foot of the wall. He needed a new vessel, a strong, healthy one.

A knock came from outside the door.

The shadow-demon was instantly on the alert, keeping silent. He wasn’t sensing any revolting Qi of an exorcist, so he just held his breath and waited, not taking any further action.

The lock was quickly eroded by demonic Qi and the door opened automatically.

Outside the door stood a man of great stature. He walked inside and the dim lamplight made his face seen. It was Luo Yan.

Luo Yan glanced around, his brow creasing deep in a frown, somewhat confused. “This is weird. My sect-sister told me to come here. Where is she?”

Luo Yan stood in the empty room for a while and a sneaking suspicion suddenly rose in him. A while ago he’d had a talk with He Yu on the phone. She’d first sweetly said a lot of nice things about him, and Luo Yan who’d always had feelings for her had let his romantic fantasies take over. Afterwards He Yu had asked him out.

Naturally Luo Yan had been overwhelmingly excited. He’d quietly left his apartment without telling anybody where he was going, and come to this out-of-the-way small house where he and He Yu had agreed on to meet.

However, Luo Yan didn’t see He Yu in this place.

“Sect-sister? Where are you, Sect-sister? I’ve come here.” Luo Yan had specially dressed up before coming here to meet He Yu.

In the dark, the shadow-demon’s lips quietly curved in a sneer. Merely a moment ago he’d been planning to risk going outside to find himself a new vessel, and now this man showed up in his room of his own accord.

The circumstances were too urgent for the shadow-demon to give it any more thought, because his current vessel wouldn’t hold long.

In the shadows, bit by bit, black gas was being drawn from the damaged body of the shadow-demon before inching towards Luo Yan.
