Calvin sat in his luxurious chair firmly, ready to begin. He explained to the group that the Bureau of Magic called upon him a few months back. They sent him a proposal, giving him the option to leave Princewood and join the Bureau to fulfill their missing slot.

The Bureau of Magic are 9 incredibly strong individuals that lead the country to their d.e.s.i.r.e. They create laws, enforce them, ban any existing ones. They rule with a majority vote, making it as fair as possible for the people while simultaneously preventing crime. Due to their strength in magical ability and knowledge over the world as is, they are the perfect candidates for the job.

Currently, there has been one missing for quite some time, leaving an available spot left to be filled. Calvin Pride has a lot of ties to people all over the country, as well as being very powerful. His knowledge alone could possibly secure a spot in the Bureau, let alone his magical ability.

After he finished explaining his situation, Calvin was ready to give his final answer. "I'm going to decline the offer."

"What!?" Atas and a few others screamed.

"If it was 10 years ago, I would have already been packed." Calvin let out a deep sigh, "Things change. Opinions change. What you know, changes."

Noone bothered to argue with him, but they respected his decision, even if they didn't understand it.

Calvin seemed to sink into his chair, "You all can go." His facial expression changed, putting on a fake enthusiastic smile, "Go catch up with each other! Have some fun while you still can!"

Faibel looked at him with concern, squinting his eyes to analyse Calvin's body language. He could tell Calvin wasn't saying everything he knew.

The group walked off with their goodbyes for now, heading to the food plaza to chat about each other's summer vacation. Calvin and Mooks remained in his office, waiting for the other to start talking.

"Why didn't you tell them?" Mooks asked as he jumped down from the desk.

"I can't put them in danger again. Remember last time they went snooping around?" Calvin chuckled a bit.

"Abbadon was their first step in this world. It was a needed event." Mooks licked his paw.

"They almost died!" Calvin jumped from his seat, "You out of all peo-… Creatures, should know how many I've lost."

"Yes I'm aware. Especially that Violet girl. You crying for weeks-"

"Okay!" Calvin interrupted him.

Mooks headed towards the door, "It doesn't matter anymore. Osiris is coming for the Laws. And we need to prepare them before it's too late." He failed to turn the knob with is paw, sighing embarrassingly and using his magic to make the knob turn by itself. Calvin remained in his office, gazing outside his window.

The following day, professor Zelle was teaching the first of his many classes that day. It was an early 8am class on a monday, meaning half the students were either asleep or simply late. Atlas, Paris, and Laena were placed together while the others had the same class later in the day.

Atlas took his seat in the cold classroom next to Laena, too tired to even say hello. She could see it on his exhausted face. Paris arrived late, sitting next to Atlas in the open seat next to him.

The tables were arranged to fit around four people, five if at least three were small. Zelle gave a compensating extra five minutes for students to arrive. Atlas could tell he was in a good mood that day.

Griffin Blood stumbled in before the five minutes were up, sitting next to Paris and greeting Atlas and Laena with an unexpected smile. He still wanted to be friends with Endless Sun, despite his past actions against them. No one really minded, he turned out to be a pretty nice kid, even a little too nice at some points.

"Welcome everyone to your first day of class," Zelle's sharp voice echoed through the classroom. "We have two things to do today. The first, we are going over the class expectations, and we'll do some introductions." He could see the students' faces drop any excitement they had. "Towards the end of class, however, I will introduce you all to a new spell." The faces that once dropped, quickly sprung back up, regaining their enthusiasm.

Zelle proceeded to go over the class expectations, ending with introductions of every student. He only required for a student to say their name, goals, and guild if they chose too. A simple, yet annoying task for most.

Towards the last quarter of the class, the students were anxiously waiting for Zelle to describe this so called "New spell." He began by grabbing a volunteer, Griffin to be exact.

"Can we get a round of applause for the brave soul that volunteered." Zelle gestured to Griffin standing right next to him. A few claps were sent, someone even howled to show their level of sarcasm for clapping at 8:45 in the morning, Zelle and Griffin ignored it, waiting for the noise to die down.

"The spell I will be teaching you today is called Detect." A few students squinted their eyes as if they've heard it before. Some even knew what it was, losing interest immediately.

"This spell can show you the amount of magic essence a living being has. In short terms, magic essence is a term used to show how much magic particles someone has. However, in the real world, this spell strictly determines someone's or something's power level."

A few heads tilted in confusion, unsure of what power level was. Zelle was expecting such responses, further describing the spell in detail. He explained how the power level of someone completely depends on how much training and mastering of their magic they accomplish. For example, a member of the Bureau of Magic has a power level of around 15,000. A first year student at Princewood has an average power level of 250. The more one d.e.s.i.r.ed to raise their power level, the harder it would become. Especially when reaching a power level of around 10,000.

Zelle continued in his half-voice that everyone was used to by now, "To perform the spell, you must concentrate your magic in not only your eyes, but your hand as well. It helps if you reach out your hand in the direction of who you are trying to detect." He raised his human hand towards Griffin, "Now you must feel the magic essence of your target. Once you do, follow with the word to activate… Detect." He said in a calm voice, clearly bored of how many times he's had to teach the same spell in the past.

Griffin felt a sudden jolt run through his body, but nothing more. "So," Griffin looked at the professor, "What did you do?"

Zelle lowered his hand and looked back at the class, "Griffin Blood, your power level is 564. An incredibly strong number for a second year. Let's get a round of applause for Griffin." He gestured, followed by bright and happy faces thundering their claps through the classroom.

"Now then, who would like to try?"

Paris instantly jumped from her seat, raising her hand as if she was reaching for the moon.

"Ms. Paris Kinley, please step forward." He widened the half-part of his lips the best he could into a smile.

Paris bolted towards the front of the room next to Griffin, eager to partake in the activity. Zelle let Griffin go first since everyone already knew his power level. He guided him through the steps once again, and Griffin cast the spell perfectly.

Everything from his eyes sparkling a little, to the very tip of his fingers feeling energy escape his touch. "Detect." Griffin broke the silence in the room with a loud voice.

Paris felt a bit strange for a moment. She wasn't in pain, but she could tell something was off.

Griffin instantly pulled his hand back as if he was the one who felt pain. His expression changed, losing any confidence it had just a few seconds ago. A number displayed for a couple seconds above Paris that only he could see.

"What's wrong? Are you all right." Zelle hustled over towards Griffin, never in his lifetime seeing a student react the same way as him when casting such a simple spell.

Griffin looked back at Zelle, regaining his composure, "I think I messed up…" He paused, looking down at his hand, "It said her power level was 4,104."

The class fell into a deep silence. Students were either staring at Paris in fear, or staring at Zelle to see what he had to say. Paris stood motionless, afraid to speak a word.

Zelle looked at Paris, and raised his hand to cast the spell. A number showed up for him, followed by a sigh of relief.

"Ah, it must've been the way you said it." Zelle patted Griffin on the shoulder, "For me it said 229!"

The class regained it's humanity. Some laughed a bit, while some clapped for both of them. Paris walked back to her desk with her arms folded, burying her head in them as she sat down.

Atlas was afraid to touch her, hoping to not make things worse. He was about to poke her when Laena suddenly hugged her from behind, "Its okay Paris. I'm sure mine is even worse." She laughed.

Paris raised her head from her desk, trying her best to form a smile. "Guess I still have some training to do." Atlas and Laena nodded a smile in response, chuckling a bit to raise her mood.

The class was still filled with abrupt noises throughout. The distinct chatter between tables, the noisy spell casting some were trying to practice, and the shuffling of creaky chairs across the hard floor made an appropriate time to end the class.

"LISTEN UP!" Zelle screamed to the best of his ability, silencing any noises that were still going on. "Class ends in about five minutes, but you may all leave early. And practice the spell outside of class, it can become a handy tool for some of you."

The class started packing their books, shuffling themselves out the door at a steady pace. Atlas, Laena, Paris and Griffin were at the back of the line heading out the door. They were about to make their exit when Zelle stopped them at the perfect moment for no one else to hear. "You four." They stopped their chatter and twisted their heads towards Zelle, "You wouldn't mind sparing a few minutes with me, would you?"
