A World Of Decree: And The Seven Laws

Chapter 52 - A challenger approaches

In the valley of the Tetrad Mountains, Osiris stood firm beside his stone-constructed mansion. It looked like a simple grey cube from the outside, but endless hallways, unoccupied rooms and tortured labyrinths filled the core of the cube.

Osiris finished his restoration back to his normal self, making him look like a normal human being. The fabric on his clothing was immaculate, drenched in a matte black to complement his neon yellow eyes. No hair, wrinkles, or even a single spot of abnormality appeared on his body, making him look almost unreal.

He waited patiently for his underling to arrive, greeting him surprisingly kindly as he arrived, "Good Morning, Alastor."

Alastor bowed, "My lord."

"How did Oryx perform?" Although he didn't have any hair, he raised a metaphorical eyebrow.

"Laena Emarin, the Law of Gender, cast an unexpected spell that raised their power levels by around 4,000. However, I made sure to infect her with one of Oryx's teeth. She won't be a problem anymore."

Osiris drew a villainous smile on his face, "Excellent work Alastor. You will be rewarded for your work… Now that one of them is infected, the Laws will fall. One by One."

Alastor prepared his leave with a portal bolstered with flames, "How long until we prepare to attack? Princewood is still heavily guarded."

"Two weeks," Osiris answered, confidently, "I need one more pawn to complete my main line of control. Once I acquire this pawn, we'll lead them here, and I will personally take care of the Laws."

"My lord," Alastor bowed again, disappearing into his portal.

Four days have passed since Oryx's death. Laena remained unconscious, her condition only becoming worse and worse. The slight gash on her arm has now turned completely yellow with all the veins surrounding the wound turning black and pulsing every second. She was visited quite frequently by her friends, but the medical department only became more crowded as other students began to get cursed as well, leading to a complete restriction for everyday students. Only serious inquiries and official Academy staff were aloud to enter.

Calvin continued training the other six Laws at the designated timeframe everyday, seeing them progress rapidly through his challenges. The Bureau of Magic reached out to Calvin again, hoping he would join them for a small time frame until the open seat was filled. However, he declined again, but promised to join if Osiris wasn't brought down soon.

The Bureau wasn't pleased, but there was nothing they could do. They knew Osiris was alive, they knew he was responsible for one of their members disappearances. What they didn't know was his goal, who he was targeting, and that the Seven Laws of the Universe were bestowed upon 7 teenagers at princewood Academy a year ago.

Monday rolled around for a fresh start to the week. Classes went by slower than usual, the weather remained clear and the sun began to set much earlier in the day. Calvin called in his favorite group of students into his office, waiting patiently with Mooks to tell them some frightening news.

Cartuja, Fiabel, and the other four walked one by one, grabbing any open seats available. Calvin's office seemed more messy than usual, which was odd considering his character. Books were scattered across the floor, paper was littered across the office like a snowstorm just happened, and bags of restlessness were dropped low below his eyes.

"Yo, you look like crap man." Cartuja started, leaning against a bookshelf.

"Not important." Calvin's voice was raspy, lacking any sort of life. "I had a rough night… Anyway, the reason I called you in today is because a Guild has challenged you to a duel for your points."

"Alright! Finally some action!" Leo cheered.

"I wouldn't get your hopes up," Calvin replied. "The Guild that challenged you is currently one of the strongest at Princewood. Their also third-year students, Kryptonite."

"Wait," Rina squinted her eyes, "Isn't that the guild from last year that got embarrassed in front of the whole school?"

"It is. However, they're not playing around anymore. They were c.o.c.ky last time, their strength is still nothing to laugh about." Calvin sighed, "Since 1,000,000 points are on the line, and Kryptonite is fighting, you can expect for quite an audience to be there. And the fighters have already been randomly selected."

"You're kidding? Who's fighting then?" Atlas sounded worried.

Calvin scanned the room with his droopy eyes, more tired than he'd thought. "It's a 2 vs 2. Faibel and Cartuja were chosen."

"Aw man! Why do I never get picked for anything!" Leo shouted, crossing his arms like a child.

Faibel kept a serious look on his face, "I'm assuming it's in the middle of the day?"

"6 in the evening tomorrow."

"Depending who we're facing," Faibel scratched his chin, "We have a very likely chance of losing our points is what you're saying."

Calvin remained quiet. "Be ready tomorrow. I'll see you all there."

Arena 1, the holy ground for Guild battles. The scene was set, the sun had fallen, and the seats were slowly getting filled. Arena 1 was almost an exact replica of the Lore. A giant, colosseum-like battleground filled with cushioned seats and stands for the audience. The ground where players fought was sturdy, but soft at the safe time to avoid major injuries. The walls that separate the inclined audience form the battlefield were at least a few meters tall, made out of pure rock and stone. A few major stands were scattered about the audience for the announcer, the Grandmaster, and the faculty section.

The crowds of students coming in was truly a sight to see. The smell of fresh air pleased the atmosphere, and the darkness in the fake sky was replaced by artificial sunlight. It was an Arena afterall.

As the students finally settled down, and 6pm struck the clock, the announcer hushed the remaining chatter, and began the introductory speech.

"Welcome all to today's Guild Battle. If you're new, don't fret, for the rules will be explained momentarily! Today we have the infamous Kryptonite facing off with the newcomers, Endless Sun!" The crowd cheered loudly for Kryptonite, but settled down as Endless Sun was called. Most of the students began scanning the seats to notice them, trying to figure out who Endless Sun truly were.

"Todays match will be a classic two on two. A 30 minute timer will be set at the start of the match if no team manages to outperform the other in the allocated time frame. Like always, the first team to neutralize their opponents or deal enough physical damage will be announced the winner. The medical department will be on the sidelines incase of any emergencies. Now then! The challenger of today's match, Kryptonite!" The crowd became filled with applause, "From Kryptinite! Please welcome, Hedrix Valentine and Gilford Bayne!"

Hedrix and Gilford walked out of a large gate from the left side of the Arena waving and smiling, excited for today's duel. Hendrix was tall, handsome, and well built for his size. His chiseled jawline showed a clear depiction of his perfectly white teeth as he waved to his fans. He had short brown hair faded towards the top and a few golden rings around his fingers.

Gilford wasn't as tall, but looked more deadly than his companion. He didn't wave, nor smile, but rather walked smoothly with his hands crossed. Everyone could tell he wasn't prepared to get embarrassed again. His mustache twirled upward, making him look at least 10 years older, and his eyes showed a deadly gaze.

"And from Endless Sun, please welcome Cartjuja Purgis and Faibel Sanders!" The applause was drastically weaker for Endless Sun, but the two competitors walked out looking like they already knew what would happen. Cartuja tightened his red bandanna around his head, and Faibel adjusted his glasses.

Before any calls were made, Faibel signaled to the announcer he wished to say something before the match started. The announcer agreed, and Faibel spoke as loud as his vocal pipes let him. "I cannot, nor will I be partaking in this match! Therefore, I gracefully excuse myself and forfeit!"

The announcer, along with the rest of the audience looked puzzled, with whispers and laughter spreading throughout the Arena.

"Cartuja Purgis!" The announcer yelled to grab his attention, "Do you surrender as well?"

Cartuja looked at his opponents, cracked his neck, and drew a malicious looking grin on his face. "Nah, I'll take these chumps on myself."
