A World Of Decree: And The Seven Laws

Chapter 58 - Cube of Stone

Two more days have passed since Griffin was found out. He was placed in the medical department along with the rest of the students already in there. Most were either paralyzed or unconscious, while others suffered more crucial symptoms.

Paris, Leo, Cartuja, Faibel, Atlas, and Rina were all prepared to march into unknown lands. No one knew what Osiris planned, but the Grandmaster and Calvin were certain they would protect the 7 innocent lives of their students. Laena remained in the medical department; Selvis was sure enough that bringing her would cause further unwanted problems. Besides, Selvis knew Osiris wasn't doing this for the Laws, but for revenge and the hatred burning the last spec of his soul.

The members of Endless Sun gathered in Calvin's office one last time before their departure. Calvin sat behind his desk, confidence peaking at the tip of his eyes, "Before we leave, there's something I need to show you." Calvin reached into one of the many pockets in his combat robes, pulling out the blue impossible triangle from before. "If I have to use this, I will. But only in a life or death situation… There's no knowing if a human can withstand this much power."

Rina gulped, slightly nervous. "What do you mean… Power?"

Calvin put the spirit star away, "This doesn't just heal an injury. It gives the victim tremendous amounts of power… Power their body might not withstand. The power only lasts a few minutes, but depending on the capacity and the circ.u.mstances, it could potentially make death even more miserable. It directly triggers your inner world, your inner consciousness."

"Blah blah blah," Cartuja snored, "Can we just get this over with man. I got like, mad homework to do."

"Your life's on the line, and you're worried about homework? Especially you?" Calvin chuckled, "You haven't done your homework in my class once. Besides, because of your situation, the professors have agreed to dismiss any assignments or work you may have until this is over."

"Oh, Bet," Cartuja yawned, "Less' go then."

Everyone laughed, perhaps for the better. They didn't know if they'd laugh again, or any time soon. Luckily, Cartuja could always make the best out of any situation with his unique attitude and way of coping with important matters.

Calvin led everyone to the Grandmaster's headquarters, where Alastor, Mooks, and Selvis waited patiently for their arrival. Once everyone settled in, Selvis made sure everyone was aware of the plan they needed to follow.

"Since we have determined that Osiris is most likely not after the students at all, we will keep them safe for the worst case scenario." Selvis started, anger touching his voice like a leaf hitting the surface of a pond. "Professo-" He stopped short for a moment, correcting himself. "Alastor and Calvin will be with the students at all costs. I will deal with Osiris."

The scene seemed tense. No one has ever seen that amount of power driving Selvis's words, it was like the fearsome winds approaching before the storm. The shear look on his face revealed that Selvis wasn't a man to be reckoned with.

After a while, Selvis finally teleported everyone to where Osiris d.e.s.i.r.ed the location to be. Unfortunately, teleporting this many people drained Selvis's power by a much greater amount than he had hoped. However, Selvis kept his secret weapon fresh, and ready to fight: Alastor Hellsgate. The only thing Selvis failed to realize were Alastor's intentions, and the true nature behind his words.

They arrived in what seemed like a field, covered in mounds of rubble and freshly dug up dirt scattered around like liter. The Tetrad mountains were visible from afar, but they showed no resemblance of being used whatsoever. The air was dense, but breathable. The sky was clear, but the sun wasn't bright. Tension rose, but settled quickly.

"Theodore Selvis! In the flesh!" A boisterous voice came from behind the group of students and professors, dragging their attention instantaneously.

A man was seen walking towards them, finely dressed, bald, and a sharp row of polished teeth. "For those I haven't met yet," the man bowed, "Osiris, A p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e to make your acquaintance."

The anger on Selvis's face grew, forcing his eyebrows to settle. "We came. The Bureau doesn't know anything. Now what do you want?"

"Hmmm," Osiris stroked his chin despite the lack of facial hair, "Although you may be correct. It seems like you've only brought six of the Laws?" His eyes danced across the group like a silhouette. "I can command any living being I've cursed to kill themselves. But you should already know that, Selvis."

"The girl has been unconscious for weeks!" Selvis growled, "You expect me to bring a wounded-"

"It doesn't matter now." Osiris cut him off. "What matters is you're all here." He chuckled lightly, snapping his fingers to initiate his plan.

The sky suddenly went dark, Stone walls began to form out of nowhere, dropping from the lifeless sky above. The walls of grey stone were thicker than pine trees, smooth as paper, and hard like diamonds in a lost cave.

"RUN!" Selvis yelled as he managed to grab Faibel in the nick of time before a wall landed straight on his head. The rest scattered like flies, dodging and traversing the rain of stone to the best of their ability.

Once the walls finally settled, a final, flat-like stone ceiling settled on top of all the fallen walls. It was the perfect creation. The perfect inescapable chamber. The perfect cube of stone.

The constant shaking, danger, and madness finally cooled off, but everyone was separated from each other. Selvis found himself in a large, endless looking room with no windows, shadows stretching across the horizon, and nothing but smooth stone in every direction. Faibel was right next to him, readjusting his glasses and finding a small crack in his left lense. It bothered him, but not as much as the current situation he was in.

Due to the lack of light in the room, shadows and darkness filled nearly every corner of the massive room they were in, prompting selvis to cast some sort of spell that not only lit up the room they were in, but nearly every room in Osiris's cube of stone.

The light revealed Osiris standing roughly 20 feet away from Selvis and Faibel. His face had an unpleasant grin, sort of like a poorly drawn line. His eyes shined a fluorescent yellow tint in the midst of the atmosphere around them. Although Selvis did his best to project as much light as possible, Osiris's eyes remained as bright as two golden ingots in a pot of copper coins.

"Faibel, stay back." Selvis growled, angrily. "You can't let him touch you."

"Don't worry!" Osiris shouted, "I'm not interested in the boy just yet." He locked eyes with Selvis, finally able to release his pent up aggression. "Do you remember what you said to me? Old man."

Selvis clenched his fist, feeling his nails digging into his skin like razors. "You didn't deserve what you got. You were young, and you didn't know any better."

"I'll ask again. Do you remember what you told me all those years ago?"

"..." Selvis remained silent, unsure of what to say. He knew, but his own remorse was far greater than his own will.

"DO YOU REMEMBER WHAT YOU SAID!" Osiris screamed in anger.

"OF COURSE I DO!" Selvis' face grew dim. His face fell into regret, sorrow, and a terrible hate in himself. "I told you you were nothing more than a cursed soul. I tried to help, but I couldn't. You caused too many lives to suffer. You caused your classmates to beg for their life. You caused too much pain." Selvis grabbed his heart as he felt a great ache build inside him. It tortured him every day, but the loose string that kept him together finally broke. "I said that you don't deserve to live in this world." Selvis remembered how he sent Osiris's soul into purgatory. He remembered the toll it took on his heart. He remembered the sleepless nights and the endless regret he lived with every day.

Osiris began to approach Selvis and Faibel in a slow, careful stroll. "So why do you deserve to live! Why should you get to decide the fate of others!"

Selvis dropped to his knees, still grasping onto his c.h.e.s.t with all the strength he's got. Faibel clutched onto Selvis's shoulders for support, but it was of no use.

"You don't deserve life. You deserve to rot." Osiris stretched his hand out, palm facing towards Selvis. "Now die… You piece of-"

"YOU SON OF A-!" A sudden scream came from the distance.

It quickly dragged Osiris's attention behind him, but he was far too slow in reacting to it. Out of nowhere, an almost invisible slash of water cut through Osiris's eyes like a knife slicing through paper.

Dark blood came spilling from his eyes instantaneously, on top of an unexpected attack to his rib cage. The valgus blow to his ribs sent him flying across the stone in a flurry of painful screams, trails of dark blood, and a body of broken bones.

Faibel and Selvis looked up in pure disbelief, seeing Atlas and Rina standing together over Osiris's mangled body on the cold stone floor.
