Asgardian Sword God

Chapter 8 - Arena

As they reached the fighting arena, the three quickly went to the reception to register amidst the crowd of people that greeted them.

" I want to register my children to fight. " Odin quickly said to the receptionist.

" Uh... King Odin, they seem to be too young. And do they have a certificate of graduation from the academy that would prove them they are at least a low-rank warrior? " replied the receptionist with a surprised look on his face.

" Even though they are young, I guarantee you that their fighting strength is on par with at least low-rank warriors. " proudly proclaimed Odin. Then he continued, " As for the certificate, who do you think would be better at teaching, me or the Academy? "

Hearing this, the crowd are surprised and look at the two children in amazement. Although they fully respect and trust their King due to the tremendous amount of strength he possesses, but staring at the two young kids in front of them, they could not help but feel a little doubt.

" Uh... " the receptionist said, but seeing the face of Odin, he knew that Odin is insisting on this, so he said, " They can fight, but on the condition that I ask the King not to hold the arena accountable on the circ.u.mstances that would injure them or even killed in rare cases. "

" How could I hold you people accountable? If they are injured, that means they are not strong enough. This a valuable lesson that they would have to learn. If they learn it here first than in war, it would be better. " seriously replied Odin. Then he continued, " For the dying part, if they know they are not strong enough, and would definitely get killed, they would know better. "

Odin said this as he believes that the both of them would want to live and if they are to die, they would definitely choose to die in warfighting rather than on the arena. Although he is not sure of this, as he did not bring them up this way, he opined on this thought.

After saying Odin said this, the receptionist quickly turned his gaze to Vali and Hela and said as he pointed his finger towards a box, " Draw from the lot from this box after that I will give you your battle cards. "

Hearing this, Vali said to Hela, " You should go first. " Then, Hela put her hand inside the box and pick up a piece of paper. Following Hela, Vali too soon draws from the box.

As they both finished draw the lot, the receptionist handed to Vali and Hela a card each and said, " Since this is your first time, you both drew from the lot of low-rank warriors as your opponent. But after this, you will collect points to determine the strength of the warriors you face in the future. Winning a match will gain you 10 points, if you lose, 10 points will be deducted and a draw will give you 5 points. These points will be saved in your cards. "

Listening to the explanation of the receptionist, both Vali and Hela nodded, seeing this the receptionist asked, " So, who are your opponents? "

Hela replied, " Kordal ".

Hearing the opponent of Hela, the receptionist felt a bit concerned. Kordal strength could be placed in the middle of low-rank warriors, but as his King told him that these two children have the strength equivalent to low-rank warriors, he felt a bit relieved.

Then the receptionist turned to Vali and said, " Then who's your opponent? "

" Egen ", replied Vali.

Hearing the opponent of Vali, the receptionist is happy that Vali's opponent is not too strong. But still, he turns his gaze towards Odin to see if it will be really okay. As he sees Odin nodding his head, he said, " Hela, Go to the arena stage 4 and Vali, you go to arena stage 7".

And before the two went to the arena stage, Odin told them, " I am going out of Asgard for about a month, and during that month, I hope you two can rack up at least 100 points. If you can collect that much, I will let you attend the Asgard Warriors Academy which admits people from between the age of 20 to 100 and as soon as you got a low-rank warrior certificate from the academy exam, you will fight in the war with a platoon of your choosing. Or I will give you the basics of what you will learn in the academy and you can go out to train by your self. And if you go out to train before receiving the certificate from the academy exam, even though you will possess the strength higher than some warriors, your standing will be much lower. "

Hearing this, the two of them replied simultaneously with an excited voice, " Okay, father, we will get 100 points during this month. " As they only learned from Odin how to fight, they are better at fighting than most warriors but the basics of other things like languages of the nine realms or magic, the two are still oblivious to them. They are happy to know that they would be able to learn other things aside from just fighting.

After they said this, Odin replied, " I have to go now. Good luck to you two. When you get a 100 points, come to see me. " After he said this, Odin immediately left the arena. And as soon as Odin left, the two went to their own stages inside the arena.

On the stage that Vali is standing, opposite to him stood a big and burly man with rugged hair. And on his back, the man carries a huge dual bladed sword.

Vali saw that the man donned a confused look on his face. Regardless of it, he said, " Do not underestimate me because of my looks. If you are ready, come at me. "

" Then draw your swords" replied Egen.

" I do not need my swords to defeat you. "

Hearing what Vali said, the man, Egen, felt angry and he quickly draws his sword and said, " Don't think I am going to go easy on you because you are a kid. "

Then, Egen, holding his sword with both of his hand screamed and rush towards Vali.

But before Egen could even come near him, Vali swiftly activated his sword skill and form 10 sword energy blade. He immediately sent them towards Egen. As Egen is not a high-rank warrior or a mid-rank warrior but a low-rank warrior, he could not fully defend against the sword energy blades. As he strikes and blocks two of the sword, the other eight swords surrounded Egen and before he could dodge or block them.

Vali, seeing that Egen is trying his best to escape from the eight swords, he controlled his blades and follow every step of Egen's movement. After doing this dance for over a minute, Egen finally surrendered and said " I give up. "

Hearing this, Vali retracted his sword energy and the energy blades soon disappeared. As soon as the energy blade disappeared, Egen put his blade back and approach Vali.

Egen patted on the back of Vali and said as he laughed, " Kid, you are too strong for your age. What's your name? "

" Vali, son of Odin. " quickly replied Vali. He is a bit annoyed by the patting, even though he could win against Egen and the other guy is still defeated by him, Egen's strength is not something to be underestimated.

" You truly are worthy of that name. Someone who possesses such a name should also have enormous strength. " said Egen.

Vali just nodded along to want Egen said, as the guy is getting too close to him and pestering him. Also, as he started to put his arms around Vali's shoulder, Vali burst out in annoyance, " Huh.. Wanna go again? "

Hearing this, Egen quickly retracted his arms and said, " Oy... I'm sorry. But still, fighting you is great. Want to go have a drink? "

As soon Egen said this, Vali quickly sent a Bushoshoku Haki cover fist at Egen and said, " Where do you think you are inviting a kid?". When the fist hit Egen's cheek, he is sent flying.

The people spectating the fight, burst out in cheers and laughs as they saw the flying Egen.

After he punched Egen, Vali went down from the stage and he begins to look at the fight of Hela's. Looking at the fight, Vali saw that both of them are almost equal in fighting strength with Hela a bit stronger.

After Vali won his fight and begin to watch the match, Hela still took around 10 minutes to finish the fight.

Then Vali continued to fight for the rest of the day. And as most strong warriors are always away in the nine realms either fighting or travelling, Vali easily won his fights. He almost reached the 100 point mark in that day itself.

But, as his father told him to fight for a month and wait for his return, Vali could not do anything other than continue to fight in the arena. He now has several amounts of experience in real fights with warriors as he continues to keep fighting. As Vali won more and more matches, the Aesirs who saw Vali fights respect for him gradually begins to grow.

Not only that, as they learn that Vali is actually a Midgardian, their respect for him grew even more. As they know that even though there are some Midgardians who can rival low-rank warriors, they are a.d.u.l.t, unlike Vali. And since Vali begins to show them what a Midgardians who got the same upbringing as Asgardians could do, they began to see humans in a different light. And before Vali, all they know about humans is that the Midgardians are weak creatures that depend on other beings of the nine realms for protection.

And as Vali won every fight of his, within a week, he is starting to approach the required power level for unlocking his devil fruit. From the number of points in power level he is away from unlocking the devil fruit, Vali deduced that if he won a fight against one or two more people, he could finally get his devil fruit. Although as his power level grows higher, the amount of power levels he could gain from fighting low-rank warriors is almost negligible. As he is just five points away from getting the required amount for unlocking his devil fruit, Vali needed to fight and win only once or twice against a low-rank warrior.

On that day itself, Vali fought a middle-rank warrior with low power level almost comparable to the stronger low-rank warrior. This opponent only gave him a 3 point increase in his power level. Now, Vali only needed to fight and win once to unlock the devil fruit.
