Black Jade Tiger

Chapter 22 - keep some distance

Hearing those words, she turned her gaze toward Kenshin making a brilliant smile that did not reach her eyes.

"Yes, I do have family in my mind. After all, isn't what family is?

"Anyways, crown prince Kenshin. I do appreciate the help you have given me, but sadly I think we should place some distances, after all, I would not want rumours to start. So soon."

She continued to walk and smile at him looking inside the cage she moved at a slow pace as her clothes fluttered in the wind giving her the looks of an immortal fairy.

She was so dazzling how could he be willing to let her go?

"No worries who would dare create rumours about this crown prince?"

He spoke in that chivalric tone that bored the self-righteous one

But who was katsy? Was she born from yesterday last rain? Hell no!

"Then I will say this as a piece of bits of advice to the crown prince."

Her smile continued to shine as bright as sunlight while it never reached the deepness of her eyes.

"When trying to help someone to make sure they need help."

Especially if it concerns matters to a family that is not yours.

He was taken aback slightly but what could he refute her with, thinking of it he could not think of anything!

He was at lost again this girl why did he feel the more he tried the further she went?

Giggling softly, she then pointed two young boys about fifteen of ages.

"Those two will do great for him" obviously she meant Alex.

Thinking of him she could not place the feelings he gave her, but it was not of an older brother, neither of a father even less as a little brother.

Thinking she frowned they shared companionship friendship but not the relation of family.

If it was not for the fact that this world was highly biased toward men, treating women as if they were uber idiots, that could not even make decisions.

She would not ask him to be her "brother" after all it was a little awkward for both of them.

Turning her gaze toward the older men's cages, she spotted a man sitting in a corner his dishevelled appearance. His haggard lifeless posture was seeming as if his world had ended. She walked toward him.

This man looked around thirty years old and apparently in the prime of his age. Staring at him intently; she said in a matter factly tone.

"You that seems to have lost everything would you be willing to build anew?"

The man seemed to have been sweep out from his stupor as he lifted his empty eyes to stare at the girl before him, his eyes grew wide in disbelief what was this girl asking?

Did he die and met a fairy?

She smiled and repeated.

"Uncle, are you willing to build a new life?"

The man had lost his wife to diseases his children had starved and also fell ill too due to a drought.

He could not save any of them! Powerless he had tried to protect his family, but merchants hyped the prices of food and medicines leaving him with no options but watching his family die!

So he had tried to be a bandit! If, he could not buy it, but he could steal it.

But in the end, he had been arrested, and with him, in slavery, his children likely had now died as well.

Did he even deserve a start over, and lead an honest life?

Did this fairy girl come from heaven to say they had forgiven him?

Tears slowly dropped from his eyes silently.

She made a soft silver bell giggle.

"Don't worry I'm sure they understood, after all, they did not die."

Her bright smile reached her eyes as she spoke to this man.

The man eyes grew wide as he looked at the little girl as if her face overlapped with an old memory.

"Ariel!"
