Chapter 18 - smashing a vase.

He notices the fear growing on my face. Shaking his head, he brings back the charming smile but this time it lacks confidence, "Look, I didn't mean to scare you. If I wanted to harm you, I would have the moment I saw you. And I can't even if I want to."

"Why?"

"Because-"

"How long has it been since I mentioned 'the lesser she knew the better'? Let me check鈥?hardly a minute," comes a comment in a mocking, much disappointed tone. I don't have to turn my head to see since I already know who that voice belongs to.

Folding his arms, he continues, "Also, why don't I see any ropes?" he looks around, his face shows clear annoyance.

Samuel sighs, "I know she isn't a guest here but since she is going to help us, the least we could is treat her properly."

"We are not sure if she's going to be of any help yet, Samuel. She could turn out to be nothing more than a human with an inborn quality to resist compulsion." He frowns.

Even though I'm tempted to ask the hundred questions which pop in my head after listening to their discussion, I suppress the urge and swiftly grab a vase within the reach of my hand. A part of me wishes to stay here, to not let go of something that I've got after years of silent prayers but another part which is not obsessed with the twilight universe and the part which Leah considers to be sane wishes to escape out of this crazy mess at the earliest opportunity.

I take a rather large step towards the door and unsurprisingly find myself being blocked by a hazel-eyed vampire. "Do you think you can escape? I think I should knock you out."

"That will hardly be necessary," I say and hit him hard on the head with the vase using every ounce of energy my body can muster.

Guess what happens after that?

It takes him not more than a millisecond to recover from the pain of being banged on the head (that is if he felt any) but I'm left with a throbbing hand. "Ow!"

"Didn't think that would help you escape, did you?" his hand wraps around my neck for second or maybe the third time today.

"No, of course not. But it surely felt good." His eyes move to my visibly throbbing hand and a smirk forms on his face.

"Sure it did." With that the grip tightens and the feeling of suffocation gradually swoops in but I don't panic. Why?

'I know she isn't a guest here but since she is going to help us the least we could is treat her properly.'

He won't kill me. He can't. They need my help. But how can I, a mere human be of any help to vampires?

I'm lost in thoughts, wondering when I feel the grip loosen. His face jerks a little lower as if paying close attention to something. I frown in confusion.

"Shush! Don't make a sound," Nicholas brings a finger to his lip and lets go of me abruptly, "Hear that?" his finger moves to his ear and listens carefully.

"They are here."
