Chapter 20 - nervous phase

"What the hell was that?" I ask Samuel once he locks the door of a room I've just followed him into. "I'm not your girlfriend!" I plan on making my tone a bit harsher but it ends up beings quite calm.

He ignores me and silently strolls to the edge of the bed. "Hey! I'm talking to you."

"I know."

"I'm not your girlfriend." I say chewing my bottom lip. My legs feel weak so I deposit myself on a couch which feels a lot more comfortable than the one I own in my apartment.

He drags his eyes away from his cell and hold my gaze for a second, looking at me with an unfathomable expression, "I know," he says and return his gaze to his phone yet again.

"Then why did you tell her we're dating. For a year?" I add the second part and a weird smirk tugs at my lips.

He ignores me yet again so I pick up a cushion from the couch and throw it at him.

His hands give away their grip and the phone topples over the bed. One second he is looking at his phone and the next he's sitting on the couch right beside me. "I'm not in the mood of a cushion-fight, sweetcheeks." He says trying his best to keep his face straight but I see his lips twitch, defying him.

My cheeks heat up and my palms reach up to cover them. "Neither am I." I manage to speak while not looking at him. "I want to know why you told-"

"Alright, listen," clearing his throat he continues, "Penelope is Nick's girlfriend. Unlike us she is a human, so is her father and she is completely oblivious to our real identity and Nick wishes to keep it that way. We have to keep up the act whenever she is around so you need to stop stomping on my feet every time I get closer or call you 'darling' like you did when we were outside." He takes a pause and sighs. My feel my cheeks heat up in embarrassment but I keep the resting bitch face on, "Whether you want it or not, you are going to be residing in this house for a few days-"

"But why?!"

"I'm not allowed to say much but just know that you're probably the only one who can help us right now."

"How?"

He hesitates but puts on a nervous smile and states, "You'll know soon."

Seriously! If anymore he just added to the already existing questions in my mind. I don't want to stay here though a part of me wants nothing more than to be around these creatures. I groan and close my eyes, mentally fighting with my inner-self.

My eyes flutter open when I hear him speak again, "So I'm Samuel Williams," he says extending an arm in handshake.

I hesitate for a moment but then produce a little but real smile and introduce myself, "Diana. Diana Taylor." Our hands meet and do a little handshake.

My smile widens. Though I have known him for a little while a part of me knows that he's a good person and we're going to be friends real soon.

Why you ask? Well for starters, he hasn't tried to throttle me unlike the other bad vampire and secondly the room I'm in right now which supposedly belong to him appears absolutely neat. Nothing out of place, just the way I like it.

He notices me examining his room and nervously clear his throat, "Now I'm sure you've seen how the house looks from the outside but a huge part of it is still locked and unclean. There are 7 bedrooms, out of which 5 are occupied so you'll have to stay here with me." He says making me gasp, "Just so Penny doesn't get suspicious." He adds quickly and looks away.

"Are you a twilight fan?" he asks suddenly after a long period of silence.

I nod, a smile tugging at my lips.

"But I hope you've realised real vampire don't glitter in the sunlight." He laughs and gosh the way his face lights when he does.

"Of course." I say with no emotion in my tone.

There's silence for a little more time. I've never felt this uncomfortable before. I'm the kind of person who mingles up with people instantly. And though there's a nervous phase with almost every attractive guy, the one with Samuel seems to know no end.

"Since you're going to stay here for some time I think you should know a few things," he begins with a clearly nervous tone and I see the efforts he is trying to put in maintaining a conversation. "Vampires are supernatural beings. They have sharpened senses, like fast speed, better hearing, strength," he picks up a knife from the fruit bowl on the bedside table and slashes a cut across his palm. Within a few seconds the wound closes, healing completely and his palm looks like the wound never existed, "super-fast healing and they feed on blood but no they don't glow or sparkle like ever and have absolutely human-like appearance."
