Chapter 31 - vervain and wooden stake.

I stood in the evil vampire aka Nicholas' room for at least an hour after I was given the 'All you need to know about Vampires' talk by Samuel. I stayed hidden in his closet, a wooden stake in my hand, clutched to my c.h.e.s.t tightly. Initially, I thought it was a stupid idea and though I was certain that I will probably be the one dead by the end of this stupid stunt I had put up, I just couldn't resist but give it a try.

He wouldn't expect something like this from me! I can't wait to see his reaction!

I frowned since my feet ached from standing for so long and when I was about to give up, I heard the doorknob turn slightly.  peeped through the small gap between the closet door, it was indeed Nicholas, except he didn't have the usual blank face expression but deeply furrowed eyebrows and a frustrated look in his eyes. He stopped and looked suspiciously towards his closet.

Not so soon!

I held my breath and saw him look away, towards the bedside table which held another element of my stunt. He lifted the jug and poured the slightly yellowish liquid into a glass and a notorious smile spread on my face. He touched the glass to his lips but then the next moment I saw the content being spilled onto the floor till the glass was completely emptied.

Damn!

"You better get out of my closet quickly, Diana. You don't want me to drag you out, seriously." His blank face had made a return. How much had I missed it!

I came out with a face that looked like a child who'd been caught stealing candy.

The stake was still pressed to my back

"Drop the stake," he said in a bored tone, "You seriously thought you could pull this off? I could clearly hear the beating of your heart. " His face had a disgustingly unbelievable look.

"Well, I had fun trying, " I said casually, throwing the wooden stake on his bed. Folding my arms, I continued, "But at least now I know what Samuel told me was indeed true! You wouldn't taste a drop of the vervain filled drink and oh, aren't you scared of a little wooden stake!" I finished with a smile that clearly hit a wrong nerve inside of him.

I told Samuel that if he wanted to convince me to help them, he'd have to tell me a few weaknesses the vampires had. So I could protect myself, just in case. He mentioned how vervain, a herb weakened vampires. It was toxic to them. And if you wanted to protect yourself from one, having vervain in your pockets was one of the ways.

Secondly, he didn't say much as to how wooden stakes worked but only told me it was dangerous to vampires. But one could guess, a stake to stab.

"Why? Why… why do you have to make it so difficult for me to not kill you already? Do you seriously want to die at my hands? Because trust me I won't give you a very painless death." His tone was as serious and calm as a grave.

"You can't kill me." I replied with a nasty smirk plastered on my face.

"I can. All it will take is one second, all I need to do is rip-"

"My heart out? Yeah, I know. If you wanted me dead, let's face it, I'd be dead already! But I'm not."

"Yet." I hated that his reply seemed like he finished my sentence. But no, a part of me was certain he wouldn't kill me. The other however...

I folded my arms, not a bit of fear in my voice when I spoke, "I know you need my help. Samuel told me and yes you're desperate to get it. I just need to know what and why."

"Time will explain everything, Diana. Have patience."

"Being stuck inside four walls with two vampires and one stupid annoying human, which I must specify is your girlfriend, requires a lot of patience, just thought you'd like to know." I sighed heavily and continued, "I need to attend college. I've missed too many classes already."

"That's not going to happen unfortunately."

"You can't keep me here! You won't…" my voice sounded nervous again and I felt ridiculous. The thought of not seeing anyone I knew and trusted, especially Leah for a long time frightened me. But I knew if I escaped, the first person I'd go to would be the town sheriff.

"You think so? Well, try me. I will gladly prove you wrong." He finished with a calm voice and retreated to the bathroom, a white towel hung around his neck.
