Bloodl.u.s.t

Chapter 9 - are you on vervain?- Part 3

Fav Beetch, 11:29AM.

It's hard to believe someone would kidnap you. You remember our discussion about the distribution of your body fat, right? *laughing emoji* so drag your a.s.s here ASAP and don't forget my food or I'll kick you out and you can spend the cold December night in the company of stray dogs.

As I scroll forward, the messages get more threatening and rich in expletives. My c.h.e.s.t rises with pride; I can proudly proclaim that my best friend has attained a master's degree in the art of swearing. A smile creeps onto my face. But then I read one text in her voice and immediately feel something rise again, only this time it's the hair on the nape of my neck.

Fav Beetch, 1:28AM.

Fine, don't pick up my calls or reply to my messages. But don't you dare show up your face on the doorstep because I'm going to sleep now and if you wake me up I wouldn't hesitate to use my chopping skills on YOU!

Thankfully even after sharing an apartment with her for over a year now, I haven't had the opportunity to be the specimen she could cut with the kitchen knife. I feel pity for all the vegetables who have to go through that process. No one deserves such a horrific death! Poor little veggies!

Someone clears their throat from behind me and I swirl almost quickly, the churning in my stomach becomes faster.

My eyes fall upon the vampire and I instantly remember: a photograph. "Oh yeah!"

Half stumbling-half steadily I walk forward, "Can you do that… er- scary-face thingy, again? I want to take a picture so that I can show it to my best friend. I've been trying so hard to convince her vampires exist for years and now I can finally have some solid proof which I can put forward the next time that topic comes up."

His eyes dart from me to the phone in my hand and back to my face. He looks at me in confusion, like I'd just spoken in a language he didn't understand. He lets out a sigh and shakes his head.

Lowering the hand holding the phone, I open my mouth to explain him all over again why I need a picture of him but just as I'm about to, he leans forward. Capturing my eyes with his, he slips the phone out of my grip like it is coated butter and topples over the bed. It falls on the floor with a 'clash'.

I don't act surprised but frown a little since I've dropped it myself 'n' times in the last week but it being my phone, survived all those tragedies with nothing more than a slight scratch.

Damn it for being so tough! I want to get a new phone but I can't unless that one breaks!

I drag my eyes back to the vampire and realise he's leaned even further; I feel his breath fanning my face. His eyes make me feel uncomfortable or maybe it's the continuous jiggling of my stomach contents which I'm sure is nothing but the alcohol I consumed last night. I move my gaze lower, to his lips which a few moments ago flashed sharp long canines.

They move slowly as he speaks, his voice is barely a whisper, his reply is short containing just 3 words…
