Calla Lily, The Eunuch King's Goblin Bride

Chapter 34 - The Disappearing Core Stone

King Theon strode out without even looking back for once, the immaculate golden door was scrunched shut behind him.

He scoured his robe off from c.h.e.s.t portion and pulled it from shoulder to the front as he shrugged a little.

Halted in the entrance to the queen's chamber, a smirk graced his devilishly handsome face.

The man did not even bother to glance back at his 'nominal wife', after spending moments with her. His mind was occupied with other thoughts, as his dignified sound of footsteps were not oriented anymore.

The guards who were outside standing in his wait, trailed him behind in ordered steps. King Theon walked through that vast stretched long arcade of the West Wing, the walls dipped in red seemed a little hollow, of morality but rich in a gruesome past filled with blood.

"Sire, something is wrong with the core stone. I want you to have a look."

The national master appeared before him out of nowhere, a foggy texture of air came into sight, forming in the air right before the King.

And within a blink the air took the shape of national master, and the only old lady in the kingdom appeared before him. Her face grimaced with worry as her long stick clacked against the marble floor, making a loud noise.

Her elemental stick resonated and the sound get absorbed into the silent red dipped walls.

"What do you mean? What Happened?"

King Theon questioned her in a worrisome tone, although she was the only person in the whole kingdom who never feared that 'mighty man', and had the temerity to even address him by name.

"I want you to follow me to the underground chambers."

She raised her voice creased with worry, as perhaps alerting him of some arriving danger.

"Mhm."

King Theon thoughtfully replied and started to trail behind the national master. The only person he ever respected because of the favour she did, to bring him up and to provide him a 'facade'.

The cunning noble followed the master through the long arcades, dipped into the blackness of deeds as the proof of dark history of the lineage.

"You should witness this, my king."

The vast stretched corridor had a mysterious building, and was morphed with other pathways that could easily confuse the assassins.

It held a door in the left one towards south, that had an invisibility to eyes. Only the king and the national master held the ability to pass through the barrier.

They stepped into the invisible permeable wall instead of the door, which of course was a farce one, placed there purposefully.

"What is this? Why is it ...it's disappearing?"

King Theon could not comprehend what actually happened to the core stone.

The precious and rumoured gem, the foundation of the entire kingdom, was a small black crystal. The appearance itself mesmerized the eyes of the people, the crystal was garnet shaped and was the size of a fist, what really stood out was the black flame like aura surrounding it.

The aura sparkled like black flames, that irreplaceable thing was placed in the middle of a large room and was surrounded by a thick fog as perhaps the acting like a cover for the stone.

The fog also acted like a mirage cloud. When ones entered without the privilege, they would be fooled by the mirages of crystals, found in every inch of the room, keeping the real one safe.

The energy of the room excelled compared to the outside one, thus the temperature was high. The pressure of the crystal made it hard to breathe. The core stone was levitating in the air, as if it was stranded by the elemental energies that held it in the middle.

The hidden room was built like a dome which of course was hidden from the outside and invisible to the aerial view of the palace.

It had the carvings in gold, of previous rulers on the walls, it was a history painted on the black walls that transformed to that shade from white.

"What is the reason? Find the cause before the allies find out that we are at our weak."

The scheming fox knew that if the word leaked out, it would spread like a fire.

He was fully aware that if the neighbouring kingdom's find out that he was at his weak, they would cut off their ties and the kingdom would fall into pits, earlier than it's damnation.

"Accordingly my calculations it is that girl, you have taken in."

The national master clacked her stick against the floor and the sound resonated like her raging ire.

Her elemental, shiny platinum stick began to glow as it held the magic, same as the core stone that was upholding the whole kingdom and regulating its climatic conditions and foundations.

"But I cannot kill her right now, she is one of my hopes to get privileges from neighbouring nations. And I believe she is not the reason because if she was, we already have died."

The national master peeked at him eerily, pondering upon what she had 'created' and how selfish her 'product' was.

"Then how are going to climb up? And what is the cause if she is not?"

The lady with crooked back questioned him in return, raising one brow at him with half mocking and challenging tone.

"I do not know yet but I'm sure she is not. And what I'm going to do will bring us prosperity for sure."

King Theon replied her rather in assuring tone when he was blank and had no knowledge of the circ.u.mstances, himself.
