Carnage In Another World

Chapter 13 - the reward

When they arrived at Faldor, there was no time to stop. Quickly, they rushed the severely wounded demon hunter to the medical center. He was still alive, but only barely. His pulse was weak and his breathing shallow. Along the way, they had to repeatedly give him c.h.e.s.t compressions and when needed, Elain would give him a slight shock to jump start his heart.

They almost broke the doors down, slamming through them. "Emergency! He needs immediate medical attention!" Adrian shouted.

" What happened?" one of the doctors asked, quickly noticing the massive wound. She was a short woman with brown hair tied in a bun, and bottle cap glasses.

"His arm was ripped off during a battle involving a brood-mother." Elian answered with haste.

The doctor signaled for them to place him on a stretcher, "you did well keeping him alive till now. We'll have to rush him into surgery. Just leave it to us now, " she assured, rushing the man to the back rooms. She washed her hands before rushing into the surgical room. Two orderlies followed close behind, carrying the stretcher.

"Let's get to the guild hall," Adrian suggested "and see what price these demons will fetch"

"Yeah, no reason to stick around here" the other demon hunter said.

Adrian emptied his inventory of demons, just barely able to squeeze them in, in their first place. "So, how much did we earn Martin?" he asked expectantly.

"Looks like a total of 19 younglings, 8 of the larger ones, and the brood-mother. Let me do some calculations right quick" Martin pondered for a moment before concluding "150 pieces each for younglings, 300 each for a.d.u.l.ts, and 1000 for the brood mother. Totaling to 6250 pieces." Martin announced, and passed over the full amount.

"If we split it between the five of us, each of us gets 1250 pieces." Adrian exclaimed excitedly.

"Quite a haul we had this time huh?", Arthur said as he stuffed his well earned money into his bag.

"Well I'll see you later it's late, and I need to bathe," Elian said, then turned around and strode out the door.

"I will take my leave as well, I need to check on my idiot brother. Catch you later" Arthur said with a wave as he left.

The unnamed demon hunter left soon after, leaving Adrian by himself.

"Hey Martin, do you know if the shops are still open?" Adrian questioned.

"They should be, but not for very much longer,'' Martin answered.

"Awesome, thanks!" Adrian announced gratefully before rushing out the door.

Adrian ran into the weapons shop he went to the other day and he headed straight over to the racks of swords. He grabbed a black sword. The hilt was around 7 inches in length inlaid with purple stitching. The blade was 3 inches wide, 3/4 inches thick, and 3 feet long. The hand guard was painted a deep purple with a hint of silver, just catching the dimly lit lights. He'd seen this sword a few days before, but knew he didn't have the money -until now.

"How much for this sword?" he asked the shop keep.

"Ah, sir Adrian. That sword is 850 pieces," the shop keep replied.

"Besides the blades looks, what's special about it?"

"Well, this sword ignites in purple flames when it's wielder emits killing intent, sir"

"I see... I'll take it." Adrian told the shop keep. He tossed the money on the counter, "feel free to count it."

"N-no need sir" he stammered, remembering how arrogant he had acted the last time "a person such as yourself would most likely not use such petty tricks"

"Alright then, I'll be on my way" Adrian stated, then he walked through the doorway.

[I could use more health potions as well] he thought as he walked into the apothecary.

"Welcome back sir, how can I help you on this fine evening?" the steward at the desk asked.

"I need 7 more health potions ma'am?" Adrian expressed.

"No problem sir, one moment please" she told him as she walked behind the curtain. She soon returned with the familiar glowing red vials. "Here you go, your total will be 350 pieces"

"Thank you very much. Here's 400, the extra 50 is a tip for your exceptional service." Adrian replied as they exchanged goods.

"Thank you very much, sir. Please feel free to come by often."

Adrian simply waved as he left. [now that that's handled, I'll go see how the surgery went. I hope everything went well..]

"Oh you're here again. Luckily, he'll survive. He's actually awake now if you'd like to see him?" she told him as he entered the medical center.

"Yes, please" Adrian replied.

"Please follow me" the doctor stated. She walked down the hallway, leading Adrian up to the room.

[This man fought side by side with me, yet I don't even know his name..] Adrian realized. The woman opened the door to a man sitting on the bed. In front of the man was a new metal, prosthetic. Magical runes gleamed on its smooth surface as he was admiring and moving his new arm, attempting to get used to the way it felt.

"Hello, I have your portion of the rewards." Adrian said as his curious gaze swept over the prosthetic. [auto mail, heh. cool.] he thought to himself.

"how much did we get?" he asked

"6250 total, split five ways, means your share is 1250" Adrian informed him, passing over the pouch containing the mans' money.
