Carnage In Another World

Chapter 6 - 6: the Marketplace

Meeting up the next day, Adrian asked Elian "What sort of gear can you buy with 300 pieces? Anything useful?"

"You can probably get some armor, but nothing to fancy. Maybe a new weapon." she pondered, noting that the sword he had been using before had gotten bent by the demons strike during the fight yesterday.

"So shall we head over to the market place then?" he questioned Elian.

"I'm sorry but I have other things I have to do right now, so you'll have to head over by yourself." she replied. "maybe, some other time ,okay?"

"Okay, I'll see you later then" Adrian said, waving as they parted ways.

Shortly after parting, Adrian arrived at the market near the front gate he recalled seeing when he first entered town. With haste, he started window shopping. From what he could see on display, there was a variety of items available for purchase. Things ranging from weapons and armor, to cosmetics and medicine.

He stopped by the weapon shop first, since it was the closest shop to him at the moment. As he walked in he thought to himself [as the saying goes location, location, location]. He smiled, laughing out loud at his own thoughts.

The shop had rows upon rows of weapon, with many different shapes and sizes. He browsed through the weapon racks, spotting, with interest, a plethora of marvelous swords. He walked around the shop when his eyes landed on a sword that looked very similar to his own, only in better condition. When he picked it up, he realized it was surprisingly a little heavier than his now broken one. He tested the sword, swinging it in a "kendo kata" like pattern.

Enjoying the weight of the blade, he walked up to the clerk and got his attention. "Excuse me sir, how much for this sword here?" he questioned, carefully passing the sword over to the shopkeeper.

"Young man, are you sure you can even afford this?" the man scoffed," don't waste my time."

Adrian's eye twitched at the annoyance in the man's tone of voice. "That's why I'm asking you the price, sir." he stated as he flashed his demon hunter I.D. to the snide clerk behind the counter.

"Oh! I'm so sorry I didn't know you were a demon hunter. We get a lot of ruffians who come in here just to waste my time." He apologized with a pale face that screamed remorse for the way he offend someone who can slay demons. When he himself cursed his luck to even the weakest of beast that cross his path. "T-this blade here, is only a mere 100 pieces, sir. Are you sure you want this one?" he stammered.

Nodding his head, Adrian removed 100 pieces from his inventory and handed it to the clerk. "no, this is fine enough for my purposes. Thanks, just remember my face so there are no longer anymore misunderstandings alright?" Adrian growled, he then placed the sword in his inventory.

"Y-yes, yes no problem sir... thank you for your patronage. Please, come here anytime sir." the clerk pleaded with a deep bow as Adrian left the shop.

After leaving the shop, he walked around the marketplace, pondering what to do next. [now that I have a new weapon, I need to find some armor, or a potion shop] He had witnessed magic already, he was almost certain there would be a potion master of some sort in this town. He just had to wander around until he found one. It didn't take long at all to find one, as it was one of the busiest locations in the market.

As he entered the building, he was struck by a wave of different aromatic scents. The atmosphere inside the shop was extremely pleasant as the scents of many ingredients wafted through the air. He wandered around the shop for a moment longer before heading to the front desk to speak with the receptionist.

"Hello sir, and welcome to our shop! is there anything I can interest you in today?" the woman smiled warmly, with the aura that radiated 'welcome'.

Nodding to himself in approval as he thought that the customer service here, was much better than in the weapon shop. "Yes, as a matter of fact there is. What would be the price of your lowest level health potion?" Adrian asked, looking at the shaped glasses that hung on the wall behind the lady.

"The weakest one we have, currently, costs 40 pieces each. To purchase them, I'll have to see your demon hunter I.D. before I'm legally allowed to make a sale involving health or magic potions." she said with a courteous smile whilst holding out her left hand "Sorry for the inconvenience."

"No, it's alright," he replied, handing her his I.D. card. "I would like to buy 5 of them, if it's not too much trouble."

She closely inspected the small card. "Everything seems to be in order! If you could just wait here, I will be right back with your purchase" the lady said as she handed him back his I.D., then disappearing through the curtain to the side of the room. Only a few seconds afterward, she came back with the potions in hand. They had a red glow that emanated a comforting warmth through the glass. "If that's all sir, you owe 200 pieces." she commented as she lay them on the counter in a neat row. The shape of the small vials was quite round, but they didn't roll and instead looked as if they almost floated.

"Here you go ma'am" he replied and easily handed over the rest of his money.

With the money in hand, the woman allowed him to take the potions without hesitation. "Thank you for shopping with us!" she said with a bow as he walked out of the shop. The last words he heard were a courteous "please, come back again soon."

Walking out onto the semi-crowded, streets of Faldor's marketplace, he began pondering over his situation [I need to get stronger, and fast, or else I risk really losing my life. That demon from yesterday was quite strong, but there are creatures way stronger than that in this world.] so, with resolution in his eyes, he decided to head back to the guild hall.Planning to check the bounty board for any missions that could be completed near Faldor.
