Carnage In Another World

Chapter 9 - 9: the Jack of Asses

After Adrian was done speaking with Martin, he wandered around the city. Searching for clues as to where he might find Elian and Arthur. Oddly enough, finding clues to pin-point Elian's location was rather easy. It seemed Elian was actually from a wealthy family and lived in a large house. Elian's home was located in the middle of town.

The house was two stories tall, which seemed average in this area of Faldor. It had a large closed in courtyard with a stone fence, and iron gate. The path leading to the front door was paved with large, flat stones set in mortar. The whole building and courtyard was clean and extravagantly designed. The main building itself was notably crafted from the ground up with bricks, while other houses were made from cobblestone and wood.

"Elian sure lives a good life.." he assumed, unable to stop himself from admiring her home.

Adrian pushed open the gate and roamed towards the front door. When he reached the door, he knocked loudly three times.

Moments later a maid came and opened the door.

The maid looked at him and said, "we are currently not accepting visitors at this moment. Please leave" then attempted to close the door, only to have it stopped by Adrian's foot. "Sir remove your foot, or I will be forced to call the guard." the maid calmly demanded, her eyes squinting in challenge.

"Ma'am, I fear you may have a misconception. My name is Adrian, I'm here to speak with Elian about official demon hunter business" Adrian told her with a smile, while taking out his I.D. to prove his honesty.

"I will report to the head of the house, please wait here sir,'' she sighed, closing the door.

Several minutes pass before the maid finally returned, "please follow me" she insisted as she ushered Adrian into the building. "Elian's currently not home at the moment, but her father has offered to speak with you in her stead."

"Alright then" Adrian replied.

Walking up the main stairway, Adrian noted the lavish decor on display through-out the home. The floor and stairway were polished and shining, one could even see their reflection. Until this day, Adrian had never see foot inside a house such as this so, as he was being led around by the maid he took his time looking over all the assorted weapons and decorations that coated the walls of the home. There was a pattern of blues and greens meshed into each decoration.

"Here we are, you may enter now." the maid paused, opening the door. Adrian walked into the room, the maid shutting the door behind him. Elian's father was sitting there looking at him with a serious expression on his face. He was not a very large man. His height and build were very similar to his daughters -only slightly more stout.

"So, what business do you have with my daughter?" the man asked, his hands now interlocked with each other.

"Good morning. The situation is like this, sir." Adrian then proceeded to explain what he had encountered in the forest.

His face contorted in a strange fashion. "I see, and what does this have to do with my daughter exactly?" he asked furrowing his brows.

"I am new in town and honestly I've been a demon hunter for only a short time." Adrian said. "Elian is one of the few demon hunters in this town that I have spoken to. I was hoping to obtain some advice from her on how I should handle this problem.."

"I see, well if that's the case as soon as she returns home I will give her the message." he said, before returning to his work. "If that is all, you my leave now"

Adrian was then quickly escorted out of the building by the maid. After leaving Elian's property, he returned to the guild hall.

Upon arrival, Adrian saw Arthur sitting at the bar talking to the bronze a.s.s, who was sitting on his right.

"Hey Arthur," Adrian called out as he strode up to the bar.

"Hey kid, what's up?" Arthur asked.

"Actually, I was hoping to get your advice on something." Adrian replied.

"Oh, really? What, pray tell, might that be?" a tinge of sarcasm could be heard in his voice.

Unwilling to go through the whole story again, Adrian only told the highlights. "So what is your opinion on this Arthur?"

"Funny story really, but my brother and I were just talking about the same thing-", Arthur said as he pointed at the infamous bronze a.s.s, whom now had a slick smirk on his face. "And was telling me that all of this happened to him, how do you explain yourself now?" Arthur asked in confusion.

"I was the one who found this information. Martin at the desk over there, can attest to this.", Adrian retorted, while glaring at Arthur's bastard brother with fire in his eyes.

"You swine, how dare you call me a liar! And to my face? How arrogant!!" the bronze a.s.s exclaimed.

"Why would I not?! You are clearly lying." Adrian concluded with confidence.

"Humph, you are--" the a.s.s of asses attempted to retort before being cut off.

"Quiet Raal! Haven't you embarrassed yourself enough for today?! Leave my sight before I lose my temper with you!" Arthur yelled, rather out of character, clearly enraged by his brothers blatant lies. "Sorry, Adrian my brother is..." he trailed off, before massaging his temples with a deep sigh.

"It's fine It's not like his attitude is your fault." Adrian reassured him. "Well anyway, back to the previous topic. What should we do about that nest of demons on the east river?" Adrian reiterated.

"This will require much more thought, but it does need to be dealt with. As soon as possible.", Arthur stressed, pondering to himself.

"How about you think it over and we meet back here tomorrow?" Adrian suggested, "same time as now?"

Nodding his head, Arthur said agreed "Alright then, I'll be here when the time comes."

"Really quick, before I go, I have one more question." Adrian insisted. "Where would I be able to find a map of the area?"

"Honestly, you should just ask Martin, he probably has a spare'' Arthur answered before downing the rest of his drink. "I'll be off then, see you here tomorrow" with a quick wave and an unbalanced stride, he shot out of the bar in a hurry.

As his business for the day drew to an end, Adrian walked up to the counter to ask Martin if he had a spare map. To which he was relieved to find that he did in fact have a spare.

Adrian opened his inventory to place it inside but the moment it came in contact with the interface in disintegrated.

<map function of the interface, has now been unlocked>

<map of Faldor region: unlocked
