Child Of God

Chapter 93 - Arc of A Young Love [4]

Sabo and Wendy had snuck out of the guild during all the commotion with the dragon slayers. They were walking down the big main street away from the guild. They were both smiling, but they didn't say much to each other since both of them were still thinking about the kiss that took place inside the building not even an hour ago.

"Wendy, I think you look very beautiful today," Sabo said nervously. Though he immediately heard what he just said in his mind and he felt like punching himself in the face. He wanted to bury himself in the ground and stay down there for eternity. He hated the fact that he had no idea what to say even though they could talk nonsense for hours just yesterday.

"Thank you. But I don't think so, my hair is all messy from earlier and my clothes are dirty too." She answered quietly.

"M-Maybe, but I think it just adds to your charm." Even though he had trouble coming up with things to talk about, he meant every word he said. Wendy had become more beautiful these past two years. She had grown a little bit and she was just slightly shorter than Sabo. Her body had become curvier than when they first met on Tenrou island, and Sabo really believed she was getting more beautiful by the day.

"You think?" She asked happily. Hearing Sabo saying that brightened her already bright mood.

"Absolutely!" Sabo said while staring straight forward. He felt too embarrassed to look at her face so instead, he kept looking at the faces of the people passing them on the street. And also while doing so he slowly moved his hand closer to hers. When his hand touched hers, both their bodies tensed up and Wendy was the one to make the next move. She placed her hand in his and simultaneously, they intertwined their fingers.

"You know, Sabo, I really like you. But I've been afraid that you haven't felt the same." Wendy squeezed his hand harder unconsciously. Sabo could feel the anxiety and worry coming off her.

"It's not what you think. I just like you so much that I have been afraid of messing it up." Sabo spoke about his fears and worries quite honestly. He just neglected to mention the part about his big sister being an intense stalker. He didn't feel like this was the right moment to mention that.

"That makes me happy to hear!" Wendy smiled ear to ear.

"And that makes me happy to hear!" Sabo said happily.

"And that makes me puke!" A voice of arrogance sounded out behind them. Three people, one male and two females had appeared some distance away from them.

Sabo picked up on the malicious air surrounding the three, so he transferred over his magic to Wendy and surrounded her in a dense magical barrier. "To what do I owe the p.l.e.a.s.u.r.e of you idiots?" He said and turned around to face them.

"We're here to collect some insurance." The one male in the group said arrogantly. He had a real cliché "The world is beneath me" kind of look on his face.

"Oh, so that would make you part of the Spriggan twelve, right?" Sabo said lazily.

"You sure know your shit, kid," Said the man.

"I know a lot more than that," Sabo took of a small step in front of Wendy.

"Then you should know not to get any funny idea." Said one of the women that sported short blonde hair with a confident expression to boot.

"I guess you didn't hear what happened to your dear Wizard king."

"What do you mean?" A woman with green hair and minimal clothes said worriedly.

"Serena and Jacob belong to us now. And Arthur was beaten black and blue and sent back to your empire with half a foot in the grave. So I suggest running along now before the same thing happens to you three." Sabo took a small confident step forward.

"What, you're lying!?"

"Calm down, Brandish!" The man said to the panic-stricken green-haired woman.

"Yeah, what would be the point in lying about that? Brandish, Ajeel, and Dimaria. Let me give you three a piece of advice. Never walk into the enemy territory thinking you're the stronger party. That's like walking into a trap you know is going to kill you." Sabo's words planted seeds of worry inside Brandish. But Ajeel and Dimaria stood firm in the belief that August couldn't be beaten by anyone on this continent.

"We know all the threats on this continent and none of them can stand against August, even less so if Serena and Jacob are there," Dimaria said confidently.

"Wow, your empire really messed with your heads. It made you think you are of any importance in the grand picture." Sabo almost sneered at them.

"You're a very arrogant little boy!" Ajeel's magic power started rising and Wendy took a step back, and he smiled arrogantly and said, "This is real magic power, little fairy!"

Sabo's magic power exploded out of him, forcing those three to take a step back to regain balance. And Sabo took a step forward so that Wendy was completely protected by him. "Raise a hand against her and I will show you hell!" Sabo said in a low almost growl-like voice.

Ajeel took a few seconds to just stare at Sabo, and eventually, Dimaria was the one to speak up, "Ajeel, Brandish, we need to leave. You both feel that, right?"

"The Fairy Tail wizards are on their way. And two of them is even stronger than the kid." Brandish said stoically.

"The kid is pissing me off, so kill him and take the girl, we only need one of them after all and it doesn't matter who," Ajeel said and looked at Dimaria.

"Got it!" She turned to look at Sabo. "Sorry, boy," She activated her magic and the world around them changed. Everyone, even Brandish and Ajeel had stopped moving. But they didn't do this of their own free will, Dimaria had essentially stopped time. Or at least slowed it down enough to make it seem like it was frozen completely. Now with all the time in the world, she walked up to Sabo without much worry.

"Count yourself lucky that you get to die without experiencing too much pain," She unsheathed her sword and pierced Sabo's stomach. "What?" Dimaria exclaimed after seeing her sword being stopped by a barrier covering Sabo's entire body.

Sabo's hands moved quickly and grabbed hold of her sword. He put some strength into it and broke the sword in two. "Sorry, I'm kinda s.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.e to time magic," Sabo took advantage of her confused state and delivered a quick kick to her head, knocking her out. "Just because I can't be compared to those old monsters doesn't mean I'm a weakling!" Sabo said as the world turned back to normal.
