Contract: Making Of A Hero

Chapter 3 - His Definition of a Hero

"To be a hero of light or the dark. She means I can be everything but a villain. Then there's a way for me to become one... Become a Jedi!" Simon said proudly to the professor.

"Jedi? What is a Jedi?" The professor looks confused on what Simon said.

"You know those guys who throw stuff at their enemies with their minds, stabs and slash their opponents using their swords made of lights. I mean a Jedi no, the Jedi!" Simon explains his point to the professor.

"Alright, alright you probably got confused yourself here. A lot of what you said does not make sense. This force, this telekinesis and the Jedi. They do not exist here nor the capabilities they posses does not make sense!" The professor of magic said to him.

"Then what am I supposed to do with these five hundred days I am to spend here? Study these arcane stuff of yours? At least I can combine both magic and skills to fight!" Simon frustratingly replied.

"Look, what you are saying is not as easy as it seems. You need to be talented with what you call as force. Second it must be innate in you which I sense it doesn't. Lastly you have no magical potential, you can tinker stuff but that's it. You cannot even wield the elements or whatsoever." The professor stubbornly replied.

"But I have to be a hero! How can I become one if I only have a deadline for a year!" Simon refuted.

"Look, son, magic takes a lifetime to master. A year that was given to you which is not enough. Maybe she is right the one who sent you in this world. You can leave, the magic academy is not a place for easy trade. A year worth of training is the same as teaching a toddler to walk. There's nothing much I can teach you." The professor sighed.

"Fine, have it your way! I will be the master hero, a master swordsman, no... A MASTER JEDI!!!" Simon gives the middle finger to the professor.

"Hey, what do you think you are doing with your finger young man?" The professor asked.

"Peace sign... and sign of friendship. You know... Fun! Under the Consent of the King! Ciao!" Simon said disgruntled and left the halls of the magic academy.

The professor felt a little bit disappointed, although true that Simon could have been a good student of the academy but lacks the potential for magic. He can at least have some opportunity to master himself in the art of crafts. The art of crafting devices for magic. It is his decision after all and left with the gift of friendship. The middle finger sign still left the professor puzzled. "Is this gesture a good sign as friendship to the king? After all, he said that this gesture is Under the Consent of the King!" The old man still puzzled about the gesture.

Meanwhile, Simon while walking away from the Magic Academy somewhat regretted of his actions.

"Since I have some knowledge about this game. I have to find a guy named Rooney, I wonder where could have they lived." He said in regret. "Erudito could be far from here, I wonder which Magical Academy I was summoned to. There's no telling in where the people could lead me. I still need to loose some weight."

Continuing on his way there were people who following him. They seem to be thieves who wishes to rob him. Not knowing of the danger ahead, an ambush is set in place for him. As he continues to walk he began to notice strange and shady figures following him. He tried to walk faster but these strange people caught up with him. They continued until he was cornered.

"Alas, am I going to be robbed!" Simon began sweating a lot.

He only brings himself some few of his formulated medicines and self-defense weapons. He left most of his stuff in the Academy.

"I should have not left!"

The shady figures laughed at him as he in panic tried to get away from being cornered. It is hopeless all what is left as an escape route is a ravine that leads several hundred feet down into a river.

"Stay away you bad men! I have something nasty that you do not wish to experience!" He warned his aggressors.

His words did not deter the robbers who were laughing at him. In response Simon throws away a smoke grenade at them which caused the robbers to pause and scatter away. Seconds later the grenade puffs a smoke. Seeing the failure of his weapon the bad men laughed at him and proceeded to corner him.

"I have trained to use this staff for months. I hope you are prepared to meet your maker facing me on the battlefield!" Simon said.

"Then, show us what you got fatty. Show us your skills and we may consider letting you get pass this passage!"

"Very well, I will show you!" Simon assumes to his fighting stance.

The leader of the robbers gave a signal and a huge muscular man appeared in front of Simon. Looking at his impressive physique and structure Simon realize that whatever weapons he have he has no chance against the guy. He has no option for getting away safely but to beat them all up to clear the passage. Maybe defeating the guy could scare or intimidate them at least.

"This is the moment of truth..." Simon said to himself.
