Daily Life Of A Ponytail Girl

Chapter 19 - The Third Challenge

The four girls continued making their way through the school building. They climbed some stairs to reach the first floor and were walking through yet another hallway. As they were walking, Yūi noticed Aoi looking a bit distraught.

"Hey Aoi, is everything alright?" Yūi asked the blue-haired girl.

"The thing is. . ." Aoi said as she started replying. "We won the first challenge by cheating, and the second one by ruining a poor girl's innocence. With the way we are handling these challenges, it almost feels as if we are the bad guys. . ."

"Well." Yūi started replying. "If it makes you feel better, at least team bad guys is usually the cooler team!"

". . . That does not make me feel better."

As the two girls were conversing, Yukkuri suddenly pointing at something and started saying something.

"Hey guys, I've found our next challenge I guess."

Looking at what Yukkuri was pointing at, they found a girl with short c.h.e.s.tnut brown hair sitting on the ground. On her head was a black cap which looked similar to those you would see French artists wear in old films and cartoons. Hanging at her white uniform blouse was a brown artist's bag, many drawing equipment like pencils and rulers sticking out. She seemed to be busy drawing something in a big notebook, as she noticed the class 2-D students approaching. Her brown eyes suddenly opened wide as she stood up while smiling brightly. With clear excitement in her voice, she started speaking.

"Ah, you're here! We can begin!"

She put the notebook into her bag and cleared her throat. Then, she rose her right hand to the front of her face while using her other hand to support her right arm, and started speaking in a slightly deeper voice.

"You are standing in the presence of Norisaki Megumi! Descendant of the holy mermaid Denora, blessed by the sea goddess Ahahi!"

Slightly confused, Yukkuri asked.

"Descendant of. . . what?"

Ignoring Yukkuri, the girl continued speaking as she used her right hand to grab something from her bag.

"Behold, my holy weapon; Notizbuchpad!" She stretched her right arm out towards the four girls. In her right hand, she held a small notebook.

Unsure how to react, Akane asked. "A. . . Notebook?"

The girl returned the notebook back to her body. "Gnehehe." She said as she took out a pencil from her bag. She started scribbling something in the notebook. "Bear witness to my special technique! Familiar Summon!"

In a swift move, she ripped the page from the notepad and threw it forward. As it fluttered towards the ground, the four girls noticed a drawing of a pegasus on it.

"I call upon thee, come forth my Mighty Pegasus!"

The girl stretched her arm out towards the piece of paper. As the piece of paper met the floor, suddenly, it started emitting a bright blue light that steadily increased in size. And then, wings emerged from the light. With a bright flash, the blue light seemingly exploded, and when the light disappeared, standing there was a shining blue pegasus which let out a roar. Or at least, that was what the c.h.e.s.tnut-haired girl imagined was happening. In reality, the piece of paper just landed on the ground while nothing occurred. Despite nothing happening though, the girl still stood there with a smug smile and arms crossed as if she had just actually summoned a pegasus.

At that moment, all four of her opponents had the same thought. """What a nutcase."""

Or well, they all should have. But there was only outlier. One of the girls stepped forward, unfazed by the Norisaki's behavior.

"Finally, a worthy opponent!" Yūi said as she stepped forward, holding her black flashlight in her hand and smiling confidently. "With Liebenslight lighting the path, I'll show you the error in having made us your enemies!"

Norisaki looked up in surprise. "And who might you be, girl with the ponytail?"

Yūi aimed her flashlight at Norisaki as she started speaking. "Standing before you is Yūi Hibana! Guardian of Majimena Academy and wielder of the divine weapon Libenslight!"

While Yūi's teammates her hiding there face with an expression screaming 'I don't want to be associated with this person', Norisaki looked at Yūi with genuine intrigue.

"Well then, brave guardian and wielder of Liebenslight, let us move past the talking and get on to the main event! Show your prowess or be obliterator by our might!" After saying that, she suddenly stretched her right arm forwards once more. "Pegasus, obey my words, use Holy Smite!"

At the c.h.e.s.tnut hair's word, the (supposed) pegasus charged forward towards Yūi in an attempt to ram into her.

"You're too slow! Rapid Fire Light Barrage!" Yūi said out load as she fired off multiple light beams at the pegasus legs. Unable to dodge all of the beams, the pegasus got blown back and landed on its side.

"Get back on your feet pegasus!" Noriaki yelled at her familiar. Not waiting on her opponent, Yūi ran forward preparing to do another attack.

"Now it's time for this! Super Light Strike!"

Yūi ignited her flashlight towards the ceiling and brought it down towards her enemy.

"Don't let that hit! Use Gust Of The Winds to blow her away!" Norisaki commanded her pegasus who was getting back on its feet. Suddenly, its wings emitted a bright blue light. As it fully spread out its wings, a strong wind gust blew Yūi back and she fell over.

"This our chance, let's finish this!" Norisaki yelled once again. "Show the strength we can call upon when we fight as one! A strength no mere human can hope to fight again! Ultimate special attack; Strike Of The Apostles!" The pegasus let out a mighty roar and started emitting gold light, after which it started charging at Yūi again once more at full speed.

"Ultimate technique huh? Guess that leaves me no choice." Yūi said she got to her feet again. She aimed her flashlight at pegasus once more. "With all the mana that flows through me, I shall finish you with this one final attack! Bear witness upon the force that is Yūi when combined with the divine weapon Liebenslight! A force so powerful even deities look at in fear! Ultimate special attack; Super Ultra Hyper Shining Beam!"

Yūi ignited her flashlight one last time, and it emitted a yellow bright light that met the fierce pegasus head-on. As the two forces clashed, one slowly got driven back, till suddenly. . .

"Pegasus, no!" Noriaki shouted.

The golden pegasus was slowly consumed by the yellow beam till it completely evaporated into nothingness. Defeated, Norisaki fell to her knees.

"You were a fine opponent." Yūi said as she walked towards the girl. "But! No one beats me." The ponytail girl said as she aimed the flashlight at the artist girl's head. Norisaki closed her eyes with a somewhat satisfied expression. "You make a fine warrior, guardian of Majimena Academy. I see now that you are truly the stronger one. I've accepted my fate, please make it swift."

Expecting to get flashlight shined right into the face, the girl anticipated a beam of light any second. Yet, that light never came. When she opened her eyes to look at what was going one, she saw Yūi had returned her flashlight to its original spot and instead was holding out her hand while smiling. "I said it before, you make a worthy opponent. I hope to fight you once again in the future."

At Yūi's act of kindness, the girl let out a sigh, but then accepted the hand and stoop back up. "Well, of course, I have my honor to restore after that loss!" The two girls smiled at each other while shaking hands.

In the end, it seemed Yūi had won (somehow).

"So. . . What just happened?" asked a confused Yukkuri. Akane and Aoi, who were looking just as confused, didn't exactly know how to respond to that question.

"All I know is that Yūi ran around while shinning her flashlight a bit."Aoi said.

"And that Norisaki girl just kept yelling commands at a supposed pegasus or something." Akane said.

"So. . . Did we win?" Yukkuri asked. The two other girls only let out a shrug, not understanding even half of what just had transpired.
