Daily Life Of A Ponytail Girl

Chapter 9 - Drill Hair

"Nothing notable with this one either. Time to move on to the next one."

Yūi was sprinting through the halls, checking each vending machine she came across in hopes of finding any traces of evidence. She ran past a classroom to a hall which was connected to several other halls.

Suddenly, Yūi heard footsteps approaching from a bordering hall.

"Oh no, there's actually people here. . . Gotta hide fast!"

Yūi quickly opened the classroom and hid inside. The steps came closer to the classroom, till. . .

*Knock knock*

"I heard you go into there you know."

The person on the other side of the door tried to open it, but Yūi put all her weight onto the door to keep it from opening.

"I'll never let you get in, leave me alone! I'm too young and cute to die! I still have so much to live for! At least don't force me to die a v.i.r.g.i.n!"

"Hey calm down! And stop screaming such inappropriate things!"

"Wait. . . I know that voice. . . Yami?"

Yūi slightly let the door open, and on the other side, she saw Yami standing with her face red from blushing. Yūi let the door open and stepped out of the classroom scratching the back of her head while giving an awkward smile.

"So sorry about that, I thought you was some dangerous criminal or something."

"Don't you think it would've been a lot more logical to expect some teacher or someone from some late after school club? . ."

Just then, Yūi noticed someone was standing behind Yami. She looked like a 2nd-year student just like Yūi and Yami. Instead of the usual summer sweater, she wore a gray one. Her gray hair was in twin tails, but instead of her hair hanging straight down, it was twirled in drill form. She was standing there with her arms behind her back, looking at Yūi.

"Hey, who's that"? Yūi asked.

"Oh her? She is Yaruki Kumotta." Yami replied. "She's a friend of mine, and just like you, she has offered the Ethics Committee her assistance."

The girl stuck her hand out towards Yūi. "Nice to meet you Yūi." She said with a soft smile.

"You know my name?" The ponytail girl replied as she shook the hand.

"I guess you could say your name has been been making the rounds around school."

Yūi suddenly bounced back in fear. "D- don't tell me. . . The anime tropes have caught up to me?! I really have become the school weirdo?!!"

"Y- Yami, what is this she on about?"

In response, all Yami did was shrug her shoulders.

Afterward, Yami was giving Yūi a stern talking to about her behavior.

"-and not to mention the ludicrous things you were screaming, is that seriously how you plan to act if someone is actually out for your life? Hey, are you even listening?"

While Yami had been talking, Yūi had just been starting at Yaruki's hair. Suddenly, Yūi directed a few questions at Yaruki; "Hey, how do you get your hair like that? Seems like a hassle to do the necessary preparation on a daily basis. Or do you just sleep with your hair like that?"

". . ."

". . . Hey hey, why are you just staring like that? Is there something wrong?"

"Nothing, I was just a bit overwhelmed by the barrage of questions.

"Also. . . I guess you could say you come over to me as. . . An intriguing person."

Yūi raised an eyebrow at haring that. "That's a weird compliment, but thanks I guess?"

"Anyway. . ." Yami said getting back on topic. "You really should go home already, it's getting late. Students are not allowed to stay past school times without permission from staff."

"A . ." Yūi replied. "I just want to help with the vending machine crisis."

Yami smiled at hearing that. "We really appreciate your help Yūi, but as Ethics Committee it's our duty to take care of these sorts of problems."

"If that's the case, why is Yaruki allowed to help you?"

At that, Yaruki herself spoke up. "Of course it's only natural I'd want to help out my dear friend." To which Yami nodded in agreement.

"Well, in that case, I'm just here to support my rival Akane!" Yūi said with a smug expression

"You mean Leader?" Yami replied. "She said she had to go home early because she had a lot of homework."

This caught the pink-haired girl off-guard." . . . Huh, I thought she was just busy with this vending machine business. . ."

The two girls walked past Yūi and went on their way. As she the two girls walked away, Yūi was left on her own again.

"Awww, I kinda wanted to try out that hairstyle. . ."
