Detesting The System: Sundering Fate

Chapter 13 - "Sometimes, The Capacity Of My Imagination Terrifies Me…"

As the night deepened, I excused myself and left the Church. The reason I gave was to pick up my weapon. But in earnest, I just left to the backside of the Church to materialize the weapon cube. Manipulating the system interface to pull up the section for earned rewards, I picked the option to accept the Worthless Weapon Cube. Thereafter, using the cube's ability I summoned my first weapon.

Worthless Weapon Cube

Description: An object that materializes any weapon of Worthless quality. Worthless being the worst possible quality, that is only when compared to all the other weapons in existence. The power of a Worthless quality weapon is comparable to regular weapons from your previous world; Earth.

Effect: Summons any weapon of Worthless quality. Use? Yes/No]

Accepting to use up the Weapon Cube I picked a rather unorthodox weapon; the Chain Sickle. Given my ability to learn any skill, I felt it would be appropriate to learn what had to be one of the least used weapons that I still found to have really good potential. Effectively working as a close and mid-range weapon at the same time, I feel that if mastered, rarely will there be someone or something that can confront me.

As I walked through the streets earlier today, I saw countless adventures with swords and if not 95% then surely 90% were carrying variants of the traditional blade. Of the 5-10%, the remained no one some much as carried a chain or scythe. Even in most of the novels and animes I did peruse in my past life, I could only remember a few gimmicky characters brandish my chosen weapon, its true value never showing through. I'm not a weapons expert or anything of the like, but with the various cheats bestowed upon me, I'm somewhat confident I'll be able to make use out of the Chain Sickle.

With the cube disintegrating in a manner reminiscent of my own death, after a burst of light, a small sickle connected by a two-meter-long chain attached to a 10 kg weight materialized atop my hands. With my body dropping ever so slightly by the weight of the weapon, I wished for the most over the top weapons skill to manifest and received just that.

Contained within the information for how to properly practice using the Chain Sickle, there were various tricks and strategies to using the weapon that I hadn't even thought of whilst think up the skill. Additionally, given that I needed to rise my physical parameter just as badly as my spiritual ones to level up, I wished for yet another ungodly "Body Refinement Technique" knowing that any skill I conjured would automatically start me on the path to getting whatever abomination I thought up.

Reading through this last notification I candidly thought, 'Sometimes, the capacity of my imagination terrifies me…' I stopped dwelling on the notification and returned to the inside of the Church. Seeing Hestia again, I showed her my Chain Sickles and told her I'd like to practice outside for a bit longer. Helplessly, she let me do as I pleased, but before I left, I asked her, "Say, you mentioned you have another person in our familia. Care to discuss him before I leave?"

Hestia seemed surprised by my interest in someone I hadn't even met, but given the context with which we talking, it should make sense to be interested in my "unknown" teammate. Hestia smiled as she talked about Bell, describing him as a well mannered, kind, and straightforward young man "about my age."

Concerned, I asked, "Uh… did you just say we're about the same age?" What the f.u.c.k was this? I was a nineteen-year-old almost fully grown a.d.u.l.t and Bell was supposed to be in his early teens! How were we… Wait. Realizing I might be in the wrong, I quickly excused myself and left to visit the restroom.

When I locked the door, I looked around and eventually found a mirror. Gazing into the mirror, I stood cringing. What the f.u.c.k?! My… My facial hair was completely gone! Turning to the only person that might have answers as asked the annoying Goldfinger I'd been ignoring all this time, 'Hey you! Goldfinger! What happened to me? Why'd I lose all my facial hair? Everything else remained the same'

'Huh? Now you wanna talk to me? Hmph! Maybe I'll tell you if you promise to stop being so mean to me...' Like a little kid, my Goldfinger negotiated to my favor almost instantaneously.

Taking her a bit more seriously, I said, 'I won't be mean to you or whatever. But you can't be constantly bothering me all the time.'

'Mhmm… Ok, I'll tell you. But first, you have to name me!' Her sullen tone vanished and was instead replaced with utter joy as she gave me another demand.

"What? Why?"

"Why? Cause it feels impersonal to be called "Goldfinger" like I'm nothing but a tool!" I could understand what she meant, but to be honest, that was all I saw her as; at least for now anyway…

"Fine, Let's call you… Destiny!" She was literally a cheat of Fate, but between Fate and Destiny, I thought Destiny sounded more ladylike. That was my thought process for naming my ultimate cheat…
