Devil's Word Magic In Fairy Tail

Chapter 41 - Aftermath of the exam

Gildarts landed on the ground where the water had been previously, now it was flying towards the shore in the form of a huge wave instead.

Thankfully Ur had used ice make magic to keep the waves at bay by conjuring a wall of ice around the entire lake.

Gildarts' arm was limp, he didn't have the strength to move it anymore. No, it was actually broken.

"He sure knows how to dish out damage, that brat…" Gildarts said with a wry smile as the water level started returning, the waves rushing towards him.

"I'd better go find him. He flew quite far off…" Gildarts muttered before jumping beyond the lake and into the forest, only to stumble in his footing upon his landing.

Though he did manage to keep standing up right in the end, the fact remained that he had taken quite the beating.

"… I guess I'm more hurt than I thought." He said, looking towards the direction Arthur flew in.

"Gildarts!" Ur yelled from behind, gaining the man's attention.

"Oh! Ur, perfect timing. Could you go fetch Arthur for me? I'm kinda out of juice…" Gildarts said upon seeing the running Ur reach him.

"Eh? Ah! Sure, I'll go get him. But do you think he's alright? You two seriously went too far with this mock exam fight! Heck you even scared the kids back there you know!" Ur replied, seeing as the man seemed fine she decided to reprimand him.

Gildarts looked to her with confusion evident in his eyes.

"You kidding?! I had to put in everything I had in order to beat the kid's last move! It was seriously insane you know?! The damn spell could probably decimate at least half of the capital of Crocus if it went off with an explosion there…" He replied.

Ur looked him over, realizing his arm was probably broken like a twig.

She was shocked for a moment before simply whistling and speaking "Arthur wasn't joking around either, huh?" she said.

"Yeah, the guy flat out nearly killed me! Hahaha!" Gildarts laughed heartily.

"You seem weirdly happy about it." Ur commented

"Well of course, you got any idea how long it's been since I had someone that could fight me one on one? Haven't had this much fun in years!" Gildarts said with a grin.

"Sure seems like it, though I'm not sure if Arthur is having fun right now or not. He's probably just about ready to spend a year in a hospital bed right about now. Lucky for him that he can heal himself! Hahaha!" Ur said with a laugh.

"Yeah, lucky him. I'ma have to wait on this ol' arm of mine to heal the old fashioned way though, it's definitely broken." Gildarts said as he moved his limp arm from side to side with the other one, as if unfazed by the pain he undoubtedly felt.

"Alright then, I'll go find Arthur. You can return to the others now." Ur said and ran off towards where Arthur had flown to.

"Aye! See ya in a bit." Gildarts waved with his one good hand and turned around to go back to his guild mates.

Once he returned, he saw that not only had the guild members been spectating his fight, but also nearly half of Magnolia who were all gathered around the outer edges of the lake.

"Seems like we put up quite the show, huh…?" Gildarts smiled wryly as the others noticed him.

"Dad! What the hell?! You two went too far!" Cana said as she ran up to her father, concern wrapped around her face for Arthur and him both.

"Old man that was too much! We're you trying to kill each other?!" Gray also pitched in.

"That was Awesome! You're both just soo damn strong!! Where'd Arthur go though?" Natsu asked, starry eyed as he looked at Gildarts, he didn't realize how dangerous the last clash was.

"Is Arthur alright?!" Erza asked, also concerned though unable to move up to Gildarts, so instead she remained seated on a chair.

"Probably." Gildarts replied meekly, which only got him glares from the group of kids.

"What do you mean probably?!" Lyon nearly yelled.

"Yeah! I get that you two were having a fight, but you as the examiner should have gone easier on him! Now you're telling us you don't even know if he's okay?" Ultear said.

"Hey, hey, hey! Y'all don't get the bigger picture here! We both went all out in the end, not to mention it was Arthur who initiated that challenge, I only accepted it. And just to let you know, I most definitely didn't have the courtesy of being able to hold back in the slightest by then!" Gildarts explained.

"Enough! The fight's over so there isn't much we can do about the past at this point." Makarov exclaimed, gaining everyone's attention.

"What matters now is making sure Arthur is also okay." He concluded to which everyone present agreed to.

Deep into the forest along a trail of upheaved dirt and trees, Ur had finally found Arthur.

"Bloody hell… You two seriously were trying to murder one another weren't you… I ran a couple kilometers at least till I found you Arthy." Ur said, crouching next to the unconscious Arthur.

They were in the middle of what was basically a crater with a wall of upheaved dirt on the end from the sheer force of Arthur quite literally shooting through the ground like a torpedo.

Ur examined his condition, "Seems like you broke more than just an arm little fella…" She said as she picked him up and started walking back to the guild.

Arthur's limbs had mostly been shattered from when the force of Gildarts' attack had propelled his body through the dirt, stones and trees. His upper body bones had also taken quite the beating with multiple broken ribs and a cracked spine, even his skull had multiple fractures.

Ur soon returned with the boy in question, whose friends were more than a little rowdy when they saw her carrying him.

Their shock towards his injuries was quite big to say the least, however both Ur and the Master managed to calm them down by reminding them of Arthur's healing magic.

Even still, Makarov made sure to call Porlyusica and have her attend to the young boy.

She made sure to patch him up as best as she could before promptly leaving without saying a word to anyone.

The days went by until Arthur finally woke up a whole week later…

(Arthur POV)

Ughhhhh!

Everything hurts!!

Bloody hell, I should have just kept outmaneuvering Gildarts until some kind of chance or opening popped up…

Why'd I have to challenge him with a big spell?

I regret everything.

"Bloody hell… {Heal}" I said, healing all of my injuries that would normally probably leave me a cripple.

I got out of the plasters with a quick {Remove} spell and stood up in my bed.

Obviously I was in the guild's infirmary.

I got out of bed leisurely before walking out said infirmary, completely ignoring the glaring blondie on the side as I made my way to the main guildhall of the building.

Needless to say I was greeted lavishly and with cheers similar to the ones Erza apparently got.

Gramps and Gildarts had informed the others of the fact I had most certainly passed even though I didn't win my fight with Gildarts.

So a party was obviously on the horizon!

Apparently I had broken Gildarts' arm, so on that note I dare say I made an achievement.

Although he wasn't really happy with my analogy on the matter and proceeded to mope around saying how it wasn't fair how easily I could heal. At that I reminded him he quite literally put me in a seven day coma so he shut up and apologized sincerely.

At that we all shared a laugh.

Erza, who was now much better than before, congratulated me and offered a toast to us who had reached S rank and to those who we're still pursuing it slowly but surely.

Though the toast was done with things like juice, water, cola or tea it was still a proper toast in our eyes.

The day continued with fun festivities at the guild as usual, some bickering between Natsu and Gray who kept fighting one another. Lyon attempting to flirt with Ultear who seemed to realize what his attempts at small talk hinted at while Cana who spends time with Ultear a lot was none the wiser.

Erza had me bake her a cake in the guild kitchen a bit later on, saying she has been having a weird craving for it since she saw that I had woken up.

I of course complied and gave her my best strawberry cake!

And yes, I enjoyed it myself as well.

The wake up day was quite fun admittedly but sadly the one afterwards was not in any way fun for the trio of ice mages…

Ur and Gildarts started a boot camp, and once Cana and Natsu learn of it from Gildarts who invited them they quickly came over for it.

That left me and Erza who had passed and didn't require any help on that front.

A week soon passed and Erza had recovered completely long ago while the aforementioned boot camp soldiers were exhausted beyond belief.

Once Gildarts and Ur took our friends for a new day of training, Erza walked up to me and spoke.

"Arthur." She said, looking me straight in the eye with a sort of determination in her own.

"Yes? What is it Erza?" I asked, intrigued at what she might have planned.

"I want to talk with you, mind coming out with me?" She replied, gesturing towards the guild entrance.

"Sure thing. Where are we headed?" I asked once more as I stood up.

Erza began walking towards the exit and spoke without turning around.

"Mmm… Perhaps the riverside? Either way let's walk." She said and began leading the way.

I wonder what this is all about?
