Doomsday Pillars

Chapter 375: Escaped

Two armored trucks rushed through the street of Las Vegas at a very high speed.

Just an hour ago, the new residents of the sin city were being dragged toward the north by a sports car and was being onslaught by the US army, and now, after being called by the Cerberus, thousands of these hellhounds began to return, coming from the north and separating the two trucks from any possible reinforcements.

Upon hearing about the incoming hordes, the American soldiers decided that it was better to rush through the streets of Vegas toward the west instead and only head north when those creatures no longer pursued them.

However, the current situation proved that this was a bad call.

Despite the two armored vehicles rushing at full throttle, the thousands of hellhounds' speed was still noticeably faster. Not to mention, it did not seem as if the hounds were running out of stamina.

Aoooooo—!

The overlapping sounds of the hellhounds' howls and their rushing footsteps caused the soldiers to unconsciously tighten the grip on their weapons. Their hearts beat faster at the thought of those creatures catching up to them.

They were not sure if it was just their imagination, but those hellhounds seemed to run faster the closer they got to the vehicles.

The tower 2 steel plating on the cars helped in making the truck safer from enemy attacks, but it was only safe for those inside the armored vehicles.

However, as the two vehicles were already filled with the two dozen survivors they picked up from the Venetian casino, the dozen soldiers were forced to stand on the roofs of the armored trucks.

Not only that, but things also turned for the worse as many were still troubled by the death of their leader, Lieutenant Erik.

Tratatatatatat tratatatatata—

The soldiers on the vehicle roofs had to shoot all around them while keeping their balance so they would not fall.

"Glen!! On the roofs at your two!" Gordie, the eldest, shouted when he saw the incoming creatures from the corner of his eye.

The moment he heard those words, Glen Grog, the youngest of the Grog brothers, quickly aimed in the direction with his new assault rifle.

MX16, the new American 50 caliber bullet assault rifle, was swiftly aimed towards the roof of the building next to them.

Tratatatatatat tratatatatata—

"We need to get out of this fucking city!!" Gordie shouted to the group while shooting the grenade launcher toward his back.

Shhhhhhh—

Kaboom! Kaboom!

In just a few moments, the area was quickly turned into a chaotic warzone.

The soldiers tried their hardest to fend off the incoming creatures, but soon enough, the much faster hellhounds managed to jump and reach them, fiercely grabbing a few of the soldiers from the vehicle roof with their bite.

The growls of the hellhounds and the screams of the dragged soldiers sent chills down the other soldiers' spines.

"Arrggh! Go faster! Faster!!"

Rob, who was currently in charge, was on the first vehicle in front leading the way with Glen, but Gordie, Chris, and Dan were on the second vehicle at the back, which was almost being overrun by the horde of wild beasts at the moment.

As they were busy with taking care of the hellhounds, another female voice sounded.

[Team B, tell me your status!]

Rob was beginning to feel very irritated. Having to focus on shooting those things while making sure his brothers were safe was already stressing him out.

"Command! If you don't send reinforcements within 5 minutes, we're going to lose our second truck!" he shouted at the female voice. A few soldiers had already been dragged down by the hellhounds, so he was starting to feel more pressure.

[I understand. Keep heading west, soldier!]

"Urghhh!" Rob furiously gritted his teeth and continued shooting.

As of this moment, four soldiers were already dragged down the second vehicle by those creatures. If things kept going this way…

Not only his brothers, but everyone on the second vehicle was bound to become those hellhounds' prey.

After all those shots, the rifle's built-in grenade launcher was now emptied.

Noticing this, Rob immediately collected all the hand grenades he could take and threw them all to the back.

Kaboom! Kaboom!

The hand grenades blew up just on the sides of the second truck, but those explosions were enough to buy them another minute.

"Look!! We're finally out of the city!!" Glen shouted to the group. His eyes were stuck on the scenery in front of them.

The dry Nevada desert.

'We are almost there!'

Rob was elated. Snapped out of his short trance, he shouted to the soldiers behind, "Hang on! We just need a few more minutes to lose them!"

However, when he turned back, the second car was already overrun by the hellhounds once more.

His fist trembled as his eyes widened in panic.

"No! No! Brothers!!"

His brothers on the roof of the vehicle at the back were already halfway to their demise.

"Nooo!!!!"

At the last moment, he suddenly felt something fly past him from the front of his vehicle. As the object flew past him, he caught a glimpse of what it was.

A missile.

A moment after, the missile crashed just a dozen meters behind the second truck. Creating huge explosion

Kabooooooommmm!!!

Three more missiles soon followed, creating another series of massive explosions followed by high-speed wind filled with the desert sand.

Rob and the rest of the American soldiers' expressions quickly lit up when they realized that backup was here.

The one that came to save them was the new Warmachine, a giant tank-like hovercraft they called the Avengers.

It had multiple cannons stored on top of it, and with them, the Warmachine rapidly killed hundreds of the hellhounds, causing the surrounding hellhounds to disperse.

"We're saved!" the soldiers began to cheer. Now that they knew everything was going to end soon, a surge of energy filled them.

However, not long after they cheered, the group saw a giant shadow moving on the red desert.

Something big was flying above them, and it was heading directly toward the hovercraft.

"No!! No!! No!!" Rob and the rest of the soldiers shouted in panic. The 'object' that was flying toward the Warmachine was a creature as big as the Warmachine itself.

"A chimera!"

The strongest being after the Tribulation was here. Not just this could highly jeopardize their mission, it could also simply kill every soldier within this desert.
