Dream Life

Episode IX: Banquet

The face of Norton's merchant squad over Kalsch was delighted to say that it had crossed the last difficulty to Periclitle.

I was satisfied that my magic had helped and even more satisfied that Liddy and Sharon had been recognized.

Norton and Byron, the captain of the escort, stop me as I try to make my way to the inn under Guy's guidance.

"I'd like to thank you for what you did today."

That's what Norton has said in a good mood.

"There should still have been more than 80 km to Periclitle. I don't think it's too late to celebrate the destination."

Norton smiles and explains the situation.

"Crusades by adventurers are frequented as we are closer to Periclitle beyond. As a result, there are few demons and few bandits out there. If we get this far, there's nothing wrong..."

Ahead of Thornbrough, you reach Periclitle via a village called Gramis, Meigle.

It was Rickadale, northeast of Thornbrough, southeast of which the scope of activity of the adventurers of Periclittle, and Gramis, Meigle, fell within that scope of activity.

As a result, demons like those attacking a dozen or so merchant squadrons have almost been driven between Periclittle-Thornbrough to the extent that there are wolves and others who get lost from time to time.

I asked Guy and Liddy for their opinions, but they said it wasn't a problem, so I decided to accept the offer.

We decided to stay at the same inn as Byron and the others, and the banquet was to be held that night at Norton's luxury. Liddy and Sharon don't like going to the banquet of bitter mercenaries, and they hang out in their rooms.

I was also thinking of dating lightly and dispersing early because I still can't drink properly.

But even at night, Byron and the other mercenaries caught me and I can hardly escape.

The liquor went in and cheerful Byron has been waving the daytime story.

"... but Master Zacharias' magic is amazing. I've never seen a magician slap down four harpies before."

I was overwhelmed by an assessment of my strengths.

"That was because of Lydiane's magic. Her air hammer just happened to set my magic when they were out of balance."

Byron said, "Be modest!" and slap me on the back with my bear-like hands.

I'm almost there.

"I'm not being modest. I fought the wrong way today. Shooting an air hammer like her would have made it easier."

To be honest, I misjudged Liddy's prowess.

I heard you were an adventurer with your grandfather, but I thought you were demonstrating your abilities as a healer.

But in today's battle, Liddy is shooting an air hammer and striking with a bow after breaking Harpy's balance.

Even as I watched beside him, he was a pretty powerful archer combining witchcraft and archery well.

Her way of fighting today was to shoot in an air hammer to keep her enemies away and shoot arrows where they were frightened. Perhaps he was going to shoot in the air hammer again once a remote enemy approached him again. It just didn't have a second air hammer today because it came with a piece before me and Sharon and Guy came close in on the attack.

I was only thinking about dropping enemies, but she was thinking about keeping them away.

Whether it was her old party member, her grandfather, or another Halbad user, Baldur, I guess she wasn't good at anti-air warfare. In other words, you can assume that you were more mindful of a battle with no damage to your allies than dropping enemies.

Same thing this time. Me and Sharon, there's a flying tool called Guy, but basically the goal is to protect the merchants. Guy gives priority to protecting us, and me and Sharon have less field experience.

Then you thought it would be better to focus your efforts on those who restrict their actions so that the enemy would not be able to attack freely than on the way to fight fewer.

(... I chose Swallow Wing Blade (Swallow Cutter) that would definitely do damage. Surely a swallow cutter that can move freely is powerful. One-on-one, my choice wasn't a mistake. But a mass battle is not like a one-on-one battle. Collecting one-on-one fights doesn't make it a mass fight. Don't get stuck one day if you don't change your mind from the ground up)

As I was sinking into my own thoughts, Byron was talking even more.

"... the battle of mercenaries is a victory if you survive. Whatever this is later, it doesn't change the outcome. And we're never going to be in the same situation again."

Not that I don't even know what he's saying, but I didn't want to regret it. Besides, as a former Japanese technician, I'm not willing to deny “analysis”.

Perhaps it is learning to look calmly at successes and failures and think properly about why they have succeeded and why they have failed.

(Well, there won't be a QC concept in this world. For ordinary people in this world, turning P (plan) D (duh) C (check) A (action) is beyond comprehension, I guess. Because it was pretty hard just explaining this concept to Nicholas)

Thinking again, Byron's men, his deputy Curtis, interrupted the conversation.

"I'm surprised the captain is talking about something small. Still, isn't Mr. Lydiane coming? How dare you hide such a beauty... Hey, Master Zacharias. Could you get Mr. Lydiane for me?

Pretty drunk, got tangled up in me in a familiar way.

Guy's eyes glow, but I shake his head small to control him.

"And you're shooting down one Curtis, too. From that distance behind you."

As soon as I waved the story of the daytime battle, I got on with it.

If we tame him any more, Guy might say something. Then the air in the field gets worse.

(The drunken manipulation I polished at the banquet during my salaried days seems to work in different worlds...)

"Right. But the captain is" too far ahead. It's too late to go back. "Even I think about it and it's working. Take that..."

I nod loudly and show a bare gesture of agreeing with him.

"You do seem to be thinking. When you see the first situation, the number of those harpies, the best archers in the squad should have come forward."

He snorted joyfully at me for getting my word.

"Right. That's right, Master Zacharias, I know exactly what you mean."

If we get him on track here, he thinks Byron will have a hard time later, and at the end of the day, he stabs the nail.

"But it also makes sense what Byron says. We must have figured out the battle trend when we started attacking. I can understand Byron's words that we should be back soon..."

Curtis seemed a little dissatisfied, so he went on to talk.

"You're the deputy captain. It's not like a mercenary at the bottom. So I think Byron dared say that. I'm counting on you."

You cared about my words,

"That's right. The captain is right..."

(When I was in Japan, when I talked about this, I got smoked, but I asked about the information honestly...)

The other mercenaries have gathered, so we will repeat that conversation. But it was pretty hard to deal with a drunk on the face.

I'm about to stick to booze, too, but I think about my growing body and I manage to stop.

(I don't hate these seats either, but it's hard not to be able to drink. I'm going to try not to drink as much as I can until I'm five or fifteen... one of these days, you're going to get your hands on it...)

There is no law in this world that minors should not drink alcohol. I'm just self-regulating because of the effects on my body.

(Sure, it had an effect on brain growth and bone. I think I heard that you're going to have poor memory or you're not going to grow taller. There should have been other effects on the gut, so you shouldn't drink too much until your body grows. But you can't wait till you're twenty...)

We hung out for about two hours and I ran off to my room pretending to go to the bathroom.

Guy stayed with me even after I was gone, and he said he was sleeping in the dining room, trying not to wake me up sleeping.

The next day, he left Thornbrough at 8 a.m.

The mercenaries are also not feeling very well due to hangovers and lack of sleep, but just as Captain Byron and Deputy Captain Curtis were always.

Curtis has apologized for getting drunk and getting tangled up, but she flushes lightly that I don't care.

Guy who slept in the dining room is also holding back beside me in an unusual way. But when Curtis approached me, I realized I was staring.

(It's a booze seat, so you can look at it a little more... Curtis is freaking out...)

When I saw your men, there were many rather terrible hangovers, and the majority of them had blue faces. Unexpectedly, I wondered if this was okay.

Thirty km from Thornbrough to the village of Gramis. Same distance as yesterday's Bowden-Thornbrough, but since it is a well-maintained and flat road, we can arrive at 4pm even if we put in a break.

Yesterday we couldn't afford to see much of the landscape, but the area is surrounded by the Aquila Mountains on the right, the Porta Mountains on the left, and a basin surrounded by the Saeum and large mountain ranges on the front.

To advance through the flat, the whole area cannot be seen, but the map shows a relatively wide plain around Periclitle.

As Byron and the others put it, we arrived at the village of Gramis without a thing.

Furthermore, although it rained the next day, nothing went wrong and we arrived safely in the village of Meigle.

The village of Meigle is a village that feeds Periclitle, with a population of about a thousand. There were no walls like Thornbrough, it was just a long idle "idyllic" countryside with an easy enclosure around the village.

White sheep and brown cows were relaxing and eating grass in the meadows, which were not hills like the village of Rasmore, but slowly climbed up towards the woods.

Seeing such a landscape, I had my thoughts on Periclitle, a city of adventurers who could arrive tomorrow.

(The city of adventurers? Just hearing the words makes my heart jump. What kind of city is it......)

The entrance exam for the School of Magic begins July 22nd.

A period of time is provided for taking the so-called due diligence test, from ten days before the examination to the day before the written test, during which applications for the examination can be made at any time. In other words, you can apply for the exam no later than the day before the written exam.

There were only half a month until the deadline for having to arrive in Doctus.

We're supposed to stay in Periclitle for three days.

Two hundred km from Periclitle to Doctus. Aurelia Street during this time is a fairly safe path as it is better maintained than Ars Street and crusades are taking place more frequently. If you are accustomed to traveling, it is about five days' itinerary, and if we have eight days, we will wear enough.
