Dream Life

Episode X: The City of Adventurers

July 7th.

Today's itinerary is only 25 km long, but I thought about doing business in Periclitle and left at 7: 00 am.

As soon as you leave the village of Meigle, you enter a gentle undulating meadow. Sometimes, there are wild deer, but no dangerous beasts or demons are seen at all.

The yawning seemingly long idle, but as the sun grows higher, the hot summer sun burns us.

I was taking off my cape and jacket and manipulating my horse in a shirt.

The noon bell was heard from the northwest.

Over a small hill, there was a huge city surrounded by wooden walls stretching several kilometres.

(Wow. How big is it? And you're not a stone wall, are you? Well, just building this many walls is going to be a big business...)

Periclitle was originally a transportation stronghold, but it was near the frontier with the Caerm Empire, the Kingdom of Lax, and development was lagging behind.

As the northern policies of the Caerm Empire changed and the circulation of Aurelia streets stretched exponentially from the commercial city of Aulera, the demonic damage that emerged around here could not be ignored, creating the predecessor city of Periclitle. And an organization called Adventurer Guild was created as a system to efficiently crusade demons.

(They say the commercial guild made it, but whoever thought about this adventurer guild system is a genius. First, he motivates adventurers by putting in a class system. The next thing you know, you've decided to pay taxes on your behalf. This is forcing the state to recognize the guild. And it's the formation of a network by branches. It ensures the mobility of adventurers by receiving the same treatment in every branch, eliminating regional differences as far as possible…)

After noon, the merchants arrived in front of the south gate of Periclitle.

Periclitle's entry tax is cheap.

One large copper coin per capita, 50e (ale) = 500 yen. Horses are also considerably cheaper than other cities for the same price.

In Kilnarek and Thornbrough, one small silver coin, one C (krona) = 1,000 yen.

Still, sometimes referred to as an early hour, the order of the procedure quickly turned around with just a few merchant wagons leaving early, just like a neighboring farmer loaded with vegetables.

Guy pays for the purpose and name, the city entry tax, and one person at a time shows the orb - the demonic prop that proves his identity.

The guard guarding the gate has a short spear in leather armor, but a grin appeared on his face, which burned well in the day, and he did not feel like an official.

It's my turn and I'll show the left hand orb to the guard.

"Oh, you're young. I was wondering if you could tell me your name and age."

"I'm Zacharias Lockhart. I'm ten."

The guard said, "Uhm. No problem and. Welcome to Periclitle," and then you wondered if my sword was, "Are you here to be an adventurer?," he asked.

"No, I'm on my way to Doctus."

The guard said, "Right. Have a good trip," he grinned. When I lowered my head gently, I raised my hand gently and went back to work with the "next person".

(I was wondering if this guy would like a special response or the whole thing...... this kind of job would be demanding under his sleeve or a high flying car, but that's surprising)

Just through the south gate, Norton called out.

"Thank you for accompanying us this time. Thanks to all of you, we didn't suffer demon damage and were able to move smoothly. If you need anything, come to the Norton Chamber of Commerce in the North End."

When Norton said so, he bowed his head again and went back to the carriage.

The mercenaries of the escort also go through in front of us, bowing their heads gently.

Captain Byron stops.

"I've learned good this time. Speak up whenever you need mercenaries. Basically, I'm here in Periclitle, so if you say Byron Seedorf in the Mercenary Guild, you'll understand."

"Okay. I can count on Byron's arm. I'll let you call me if you need anything."

Byron bowed his head deeply and followed the Nortons.

"You were an interesting man," Guy said as the Byrons went blind.

"Right. He was definitely an interesting guy. I think I know a little bit about what a mercenary is."

I was staring down the road towards them, thinking I might see them again soon.

It was only after noon and early hours, so for now we found an inn and then we were off to lunch.

Asking Guy if he had a guessing at the inn,

"Because I was only here about fifteen years ago, too. What about Mr. Lydia?

Guy talks to Lydia, but waves flickering, "I'm older," he says.

In the meantime, Guy decided to walk in the South End to find the inn he used to use.

Periclitle is roughly divided into a city of adventurers in the South District and a city of commerce in the North District.

Periclitle had a population of 50,000 and was the largest city around here, and the boulevard running through the north and south was full of people.

When you enter the sidewalk from the boulevard, there is a line of weapons stores, tool stores, etc. A hammer (hammer) sounded from the back of the weapons store, and there were small items lined up at the end of the tool shop.

(That's a vibrant city. There's just a city of 50,000 people. Compared to the Japanese city, the population is small, but because there are no buildings, there seems to be a lot of people. And that's a racial crucible...)

Even if you go into the sidewalk, you're not like many people. Many of them were adventurers wearing protective gear and lowering their swords. Among the adventurers, there were cluttered races of humans, elves, dwarves, beasts, etc., and I remembered the illusion of being misplaced within a set of movies.

After a short walk, Guy stopped in front of one of the inns.

It was a fairly splendid building with three floors of wood, and the sign hung at the entrance depicted the letter "nest of rough eagles” and a picture of a fierce eagle like a white-headed eagle clustered in a nest on a tree.

"This is the inn I used to use, but it certainly should have been replaced. I couldn't stay in a full room when I got here before, so what's going on..."

I suggest to the unsure Guy, "Anyway, I don't know where I want it, and I'll do it here".

Liddy didn't seem to have any differences either, and Guy went to ask about the room's availability.

"They say it's empty," he immediately sounds, taking the horse to the stables.

"It pays to take care of the horse, but I've already asked for it. Let's just unload and get into the room."

Checking in at this world inn is pretty much a bad idea, and if I'm available, I can get most of them in my room.

As he took the horse to the stables and went inside the inn with his luggage in his hand, a woman who looked like a mid thirties general was waiting at the front desk.

After confirming the orb, explain the meal time and so on.

"... you can always have dinner after 4: 00. Since about before dawn in the morning. If you have water, tell me sooner. For once, there's a bathroom on the ground floor, so I can take a bath there..."

Six C (krona) = 6,000 yen for two meals per night. They say the horse has two C = 2,000 yen a day with leaves and easy care. Much the same price as regional cities like Kilnarek and Thornbrough, and I guess this is the standard price.

As the general explained, a man about the same age as Guy came out of the back. The man is heartbeat and his face is red as a liquor burn. I guess he's a cook, because he has a prefix.

The man looked at Guy and said, "Haven't you ever stayed here before?," he leans his neck.

"About fifteen years ago...... could it be Yoan?

Joan is the current master of this inn and said he was also a cook fifteen years before Guy was staying.

While Guy was warming up his old relationship, we were asking the general's Mira if she had a good lunch shop.

"Then you can eat at home. I can only serve something simple, because it's better than those dining rooms."

Guy goes back, puts his stuff in his room, and then he goes down to the dining room.

The dining room is quite large and there are about fifteen counters with about twenty table seats. Now the chair is on the table and it feels like a dining room before the store opens.

My husband Yoan was starting to cook in the back and we sat at a table nearby and waited.

After about fifteen minutes of waiting, Yoan with the dish came out of the kitchen.

"I made it right from the ingredients of the night."

They say the ones that came out were sautéed pork in bread and added vegetables to the rest of the morning soup, but they're pretty good to try.

(The spices are also working. That's right, it's a big city, so you get spices?

"Yeah, that's good... what spices are you using for this pork? And the stock of this soup smells unusual..."

Yoan, who was watching beside him, was a little surprised by my solitary, "You have a good tongue. Boy," he said, clapping his shoulder.

Guy who saw it said, "It's the son of the house I serve. Don't be rude," he glances.

I said to Guy, "I don't care," and I said to Yoan, "I'm Zacharias Lockhart. Zach is fine," chuckles Nicole.

"Lockhart? Is that Lockhart? No, you, you were out to serve the Lockhart family. I didn't know you really served."

Guy said with a slightly better look, "That's what I'm talking about. So respond with respect," stabs Yoan with the nail.

Joan nodded, "Okay, but I'm noble, I don't know," he looked a little troubled.

I shake my head at Guy and then I talk to Yoan.

"This is the city of adventurers, isn't it? That's what I heard, regardless of your identity, and strength is where you say things. Isn't it? Then you just have to deal with it normally until you're recognized for your strength."

Joan said, "Don't talk to me. That's the blood muscle of the Lion Heart," he slaps me on the shoulder again gently.

"Then I don't need respect either. But let me call you Zach."

When I nodded, Guy looked at me dissatisfied but reluctantly admitted it when he shook his head sideways gently.

Afterwards, me and Yoan, who were intent on a seasoning, were thrilled with spice stories until Liddy and the others stood up in shame.

They were using white peppers, expensive stuff coming in from the southern part of the frog via the commercial city of Aurelia. They get a variety of other spices including cinnamon, cardamom and cloves.

(This could be a hit. Perhaps we could make this “nest of rough eagles” the wholesale destination of “scotch”. Let's give him a drink of the Scotch I brought later)

On this trip to Doctus, I was supposed to stay here in Periclitle, so I only brought five three-year old scotches. Because if it went well, I thought I might be able to wholesale it to Periclitle's dining room, but I didn't think it would hit me all of a sudden.

(The journey is still interesting. So is Byron, but so is this Yoan. I guess I can see a lot of people ahead of me, but I'm really lucky...)
