Dream Life

Lesson 13: The Commercial District

As soon as he returns to his room after completing negotiations with his innkeeper, Joan, about Scotch, he drops the results of his negotiations with him into the contract chick-shaped.

It's a business habit in this world that I learned when selling soap manufacturing methods, but it's basically not so different from Japan. Since there are no laws in place, such as commercial laws, simply state the amount of the contract of sale, the date and time, the method of delivery, the availability of compensation, etc., and in case of trouble simply ask for mediation in a commercial guild.

I was thinking about this contract while I was working on it.

(A barrel of 1,000 C (krona) is given to Kilnarek, a million yen? There's no more trouble selling to the Dwarves of Ars, but there's no way to spread it. If this makes Scotch popular, it should bring a steady income to the village......)

The barrel was decided to be handed over in Kilnarek, and the quarter barrel - just over a hundred litres - was decided to be sold for a thousand C. Payment shall be made at the next barrel order and the merchant to be used shall be designated by the Lockhart family (here).

(I think Norton can trust you, but don't feel like depositing cash is risky. That being said, I don't know any other merchants... or at least if you're going to keep doing business with Ars, you shouldn't want to turn the Dwarves against the enemy. If you're stupid enough to risk losing your credibility for about a million yen, it's my fault you couldn't spot me. If that happens, you'll have to give up thinking it's tuition......)

I couldn't trust a merchant named Henry Norton who had only traveled with me once.

Rationally, there are grounds for trusting him.

His chamber of commerce won't be that big, but he does business steadily to the extent that he can enter into exclusive escort contracts with mercenaries. I bet the merchant doesn't want to lose his credibility for a small amount of money.

Besides, his chamber of commerce has dealings with the Dwarves of Ars. Which means we don't want to turn the Dwarves against our enemies. Scotch's biggest customers in the Lockhart family are the Dwarves of Ars, no matter what. If we learn that alcohol entanglement has caused trouble with the Lockhart family (of which), it will affect the main business.

(Conversely, you mean you might want to make a deal with us... if you negotiate well, you might undertake it cheaply, and in time, transport to Ars. That might allow regular transportation connecting Ars and Pericritle from the village of Rasmore... this is a start...)

The following July 8th.

Perform morning workouts in the backyard as usual.

Just after dawn, but the kitchen smells good for breakfast. Looks like some adventurers are already eating.

Wash your face and make a bare gesture when you wake up neatly.

I'm not in a hurry today, so I'm going to sweat for about an hour.

Around 7 a.m., the adventurers head down to the overflowing dining room.

I get to an empty seat and ask for a meal, thinking, "You're up early, adventurer.”

Breakfast was bread in soups like minestrone with seared salted pork and egg dishes like scrambled eggs and plenty of vegetables.

(That's surprisingly voluminous. Basically, maybe the adventurers need this much volume because their job is manual labor......)

After breakfast, I leave the inn around 8: 00 a.m.

As we decided yesterday, our primary objective is to head to the North District, a commercial district, and find Norton's Chamber of Commerce. After that, gather information around the Chamber of Commerce and, if you have time, visit the Mercenary Guild to find the mercenary Byron.

The boulevard was overflowing with merchants and escorts, but we had no particular problem walking, heading north on the boulevard.

As soon as he entered the North District and heard about Norton's Chamber of Commerce on Main Street, he found out where his Chamber of Commerce was.

On the south side of the North District, that is, close to the city centre, his shop was there.

Norton's Chamber of Commerce had a wooden two-story store and a large warehouse next to it. You don't have a store sale, it doesn't look like a store at first glance, and without a little sign called the Norton Chamber of Commerce, it's just about to be mistaken for a big house.

(For purchasing the adventurer's weapons and protective equipment, you're not retailing. If you don't hire a blacksmith, you can't have maintenance or some sort of after-sales service, and you'll need to customize it for your individual, so maybe wholesale business like Inquirer is easier than troublesome retail...)

We'll gather information about the Norton Chamber of Commerce.

Guy enters a nearby person or store and listens insignificantly to the Norton Chamber of Commerce. I've heard some stories, but there's no particularly negative information, and Henry, the third generation, seems to be doing some tough business as well.

(No negative information. Are managers tough too... If it's true, I'd like to know how they're doing financially. There will be no Emperor O data bank in this world, but I just want to see the TOB Corporate Credit Survey report. Whatever. Forty newspapers. If you have about balance sheet (B/S), income statement (P/L), cash flow (CF) statement (C/S), you can make some judgment...)

After confirming the reputation of the Norton Chamber of Commerce, he headed to the Mercenary Guild in the North District.

The North District was only referred to as a commercial district, with many shops lined up. Upon entering the grocery district, there were shops specializing in cereals and meat, as well as stores specializing in preserved foods.

(That's just the commercial district of the metropolis. Is it because this is the relay point for supplies...)

Moving from a district lined with grocery stores to a district selling clothes and groceries.

Sharon had his eyes round the big mall he'd seen for the first time.

I said, "If there's anything I want to see, I'm coming in," but she shrugged off and just shook her head to the side. When I whispered to Liddy, "Do you have any idea where Sharon might be interested,"

"Maybe a bookstore. Hmm... maybe even clothes and accessories."

I found a women's clothing store, mindful of those stores.

When I say, "Let's go in here," Sharon reluctantly looks at Guy. When Guy tried to say something, Liddy beside him said with a happy face, "Let's go in!" and pull my arm and try to get in first.

Looking at Guy's troubled face, he said, "Let's go," and they both followed us.

When I walked into the store, dozens of colorful clothes for women lined up narrowly, whether they were samples or old clothes. Soon a female clerk in her mid-thirties or so will come close.

"Welcome. What kind of product would you like?

With a full sales smile, speak up to Guy and Liddy and see us for a glimpse.

(Guess I don't know our relationship. I guess me and Sharon look like brothers and sisters somehow, but I don't know what Guy and Liddy have to do with it. So do you feel like you called both Guy and Liddy, worried about who you should be speaking to)

"Will you listen to this person's request," Guy said as he looked at Liddy in the clerk's inquiry.

Liddy hadn't heard the word, or he'd already looked at the product as he liked. Sharon didn't know what to do in a store like this, and she looked like she was in trouble with the perfect next to me.

"Why don't you see Sharon, too? If you want some clothes, I'll give it to you."

"What I have is enough," I shrug my pull and neck to the side and shy away.

In the meantime, I will look at the items that Liddy hangs one by one and check with the clerk about the price, etc.

In about five minutes, Liddy went back and said, "We'll come back later," and Stasta and I left the store.

I think I'm going to leave unexpectedly light, and I'm like, "You didn't have anything you liked?" I ask.

"That's not true. We'll need it in Doctus' life... but we don't have to decide on this shop alone."

(I see. So you go around and compare. This is going to take a while...)

Then he also went to the mercenary guild with a peek at the grocery store and others.

The Mercenary Guild is a fairly large building of three wooden floors, with training grounds behind it, like those in other branches, but sometimes close to noon, with little sign of the mercenaries.

Once inside the guild, the reception counter lines up sloppily at the front, and there are a few round tables for four, whether it's more business space.

Guy goes to the reception and asks about Byron Seedorf's stay at the inn. The receptionist told me immediately.

(He said he was based in Periclitle (here), so the inn would be like his current address. Can I teach you that too easily? Well, there's no such thing as a privacy law, so maybe I don't have a choice... but I didn't expect to give you this light information about mercenaries who might buy grudges...)

Ask Guy about it, he said there's usually nothing easy to tell me, and this time Byron himself had asked me to tell him where we would be if we came.

(Guess there's no guarantee I'm coming to see you... maybe you thought I was into mercenaries. Neither Guy nor Liddy are in the mercenary guild, then maybe I thought they would come to me...)

Heading to the inn I heard in the guild, Hate Byron was absent. When asked by the innkeeper, he said he would be back after noon, so he asked for a message that he would come later and go back for a walk in the city.

Walking with a blah blah blah for a while, he was in a compartment lined with bookstores and magic props.

Leather fitting books are arranged in the bookstore, and there are scroll-like items by the way. Unlike an old Japanese bookstore, I feel a suspicious atmosphere somewhere.

In addition, the magic prop shop lined with wands with magic crystal stones, etc. had an exotic atmosphere, such as small boxes, intricately shaped objects with no idea how to use them, and even rings with colorful gems embedded in them.

When I tried to get into one of them, Liddy grabbed my arm.

"We're going to Doctus now. There's more real in that city, so you don't have to be caught faking it in this city."

Sure, Doctus, an academic city, has more real magic books, magic props, etc., but for RPG lovers like me, I guess I can't help but be interested in this kind of atmospheric store.

As we passed through the bookstore street, we entered a pleasure district lined with many taverns.

It was only before noon, but it was already open and a drunk mercenary was making a scene.

(Guess it's the mercenaries who finished the job. Depending on where the merchants are going, it will take nearly two months round trip, as there are eight hundred km to the commercial city of Aurelia. Even Ars has more than four hundred km, and in the meantime, it's work, so I can't take my wings off. I guess he's taking off his wings on occasional holidays......)

I don't like to get tangled up either, so I bypass the pleasure district and head to a district lined with major chambers of commerce. Liddy and Guy talked about a lot of stores serving safe and good meals around there.

Find a cafe-style dining room and have lunch.

It's a chunkier meal than I thought, but it tastes pretty good. I casually looked around, but there were surprisingly many things eating alcohol with one hand.

As a former Japanese salarier, I feel very uncomfortable.

(Around Shinbashi, I've seen fancy people in suits asking for raw beer at lunch, but the company I was at couldn't possibly drink with lunch. If you've been to Europe, you'd have somewhat different feelings, but you'd want to not drink while you're at work... well, maybe it's seclusion you couldn't do)

He then crushed time with Blah Blah and headed to Byron's lodging.

When I heard it on the front desk, I saw that Byron was already back.

Soon Byron will show up and bow his head to us.

"Looks like you came here once, and it took you a long time"

"No, because I wasn't promising. If you don't mind, could you give me a moment?"

Byron nods at my words and heads to the unpopular Inn cafeteria.

"I have a few things to ask you today. I'm going to ask Lord Norton's Chamber of Commerce for a job, but I'd like to hear from Byron, an escort..."

I will also tell Byron what I told Yoan last night.

"... the point is that I want to carry our specialty, the liquor, here in Periclitle. There's something about Lord Norton's business, and I'd like to hear your opinion, if you'll do me a favor. Of course, I have a relationship with my employer, so as far as I can talk."

After a few thoughts he starts talking quietly.

"The Norton Chamber of Commerce is a chamber of commerce that conducts tough business. The current chairman, Mr. Henry, is also a third generation, but not of an adventurous character…"

Byron's story was the same as we heard.

"… and the chairman seems to want to bond with the Lockhart family"

I said, "Because we're selling alcohol to Dwarves in Ars?," he muttered, a little surprised, "Yes," he nodded.

"Looks like the chairman wants to go and sell Ars' weapons to the northern kingdom of Lax as well in the future. To do this, we need the blacksmiths to build a lot of weapons, but the inflexible dwarves don't want to make cheap weapons like the Norton Chamber of Commerce buys."

"I see. Parents who are partitioning want to sell good quality weapons. But the Norton Chamber of Commerce doesn't want that much quality. So, as a chamber of commerce, I want young blacksmiths to build weapons in order to get the numbers together. But if the parents don't say yes, the younger ones don't get the job around and they don't have the numbers. Is that what you're saying?"

Byron nodded loudly,

"You're right. So the chairman should be hoping to stop by the village of Rasmore on his way to Ars to carry the liquor that the Dwarves prefer"

(I see. If it is indeed the request of a liquor hauling contractor, I might try to ask him some impossibilities. But so far, Ars has a specialist haulier undertaking the transport. That's also the vendor who hired as many as twenty more escorts than Byron's mercenaries...)

I'm satisfied with enough information, and I bow my head to Byron, "Thanks for the help," he said.

Byron can't stay, right?

"Dear Zacharias, may I have a word with you from me, please?"

"Oh, I don't mind," he replied, wondering what I was talking about.
