Dream Life

Episode XV: Aurelia Street

July 10.

I finished my three-day stay in Periclitle. We're leaving Periclitle today.

From here to the destination Doctos is about two hundred km. The calculation is that you will arrive in Doctus in eight days, even on a journey of 25 km per day that you can afford quite a bit.

The deadline for applying for the exam is July 21, so you can arrive three days in advance, even if you can afford it.

From Periclitle to Doctus will continue west on Aurelia Avenue.

Aurelia Street is by no means a safe street if viewed as a whole. Especially on the western side of Doctus, where demons are in danger of trekking, it is difficult enough for first-class mercenaries to be escorted. Conversely, it is said that from Periclitle to Doctus it is quite safe to go the promising plain zone.

So this time, without dispute by the merchant squad, the four of us were planning to take the streets.

8: 00 am.

In the humid, cloudy air, he was dropped off by Joan, the master of the “Nest of the Arid Eagle” pavilion where he was staying, and left the inn. Sometimes the morning crowd (rush) time led to the west gate on the streets where people and wagons would crash.

Going through the west gate to Aurelia Street, there was a long queue of carriages.

The noise of a wagon named Raggedy echoes the plain, and our four horses move forward in the meantime.

I didn't think, "That's a great number of merchants," he said in his voice.

Liddy sent me a horse.

"Right. Aurelia is at the heart of commerce, so there's going to be a collection of Cohm metal products, Lax food, and Sartooth crafts. And from there it will also flow to the southern part of the Caerm Empire and to the Holy King Luke..."

Approximately 800 km from Pericritle to Aurelia. In the meantime, there are basically only means of transport by road, relying on transport by carriage.

Downstream of the Fatas River there is a large ship to put in, so there is also a hand called water transport, but they hate to fight large aquatic demons in narrow rivers where there is no escape, and the number of ships coming in is small.

The main cities between Periclitle and Doctus are Orton, fifty km away, and Armaswaite, one hundred km away, where both were the castle fortifications of the Caerm Empire.

Accommodate the speed of the carriage, proceed at a slow pace and arrive at the accommodation town, where everything is today's purpose. Cloudy skies the next day, but without rain, and without any trouble, went well and arrived in the city of Orton, today's destination.

When I entered the City Inn in Orton, the merchants were talking to me about something.

When I get my ears up, they say the weather breaks down after tomorrow, and they seem to be discussing departure times and subsequent itineraries.

I thought it would have some impact on the operation of the carriage when it rained, but I didn't think it was that serious.

So I said to Guy, "It's noisy that it's going to rain, but is it that hard?" I ask.

"The rain around here is pretty intense. Heavy rainfall can cause the streets to become crowned with rainwater that flows into the Fatas River, making it impossible to move for as long as three days. It can cost the merchants a lot, and if you can't, you can get stuck in the streets."

Whether it was a topographical problem or, at this time of summer, hanging from Armaswaite to Doctus was often hit by intensive heavy rainfall.

In unpaved dirt streets, when the road gets wet due to heavy rain, the speed of the wagon drops extremely.

Where the drainage is even worse, they say the whole road becomes a big water hoard, which can be quite dangerous, such as a wagon off the road and breaking the wheel, or a horse getting his leg taken and injured.

"You mean maybe we'll be stopped here...... we still have ten days till the exam, we'll make it enough, but I'm not happy we won't be able to afford it"

Liddy snorts at my opinion, too.

"Right. I can't do it tomorrow, but I think you should go to Armaswaite."

"I agree with Mr Lydia, too. You should see the weather tomorrow morning and go all the way to Armaswaite."

Guy seems to share Liddy's opinion, leaving tomorrow with dawn and going for an Armasweight fifty km away.

The following July 12th.

Wake up before dawn and go down to the dining room to pick up breakfast.

Are the merchants thinking the same as us, the dining room was pretty crowded while it was still dim.

When you pick up your meal and get ready to leave, the night slowly dawns, but the black sky just turns gray and never feels like dawn.

Looking up into the sky, the clouds drooped heavily and the Porta Mountains, which should be visible to the south, were hidden in gray clouds. The Saeum Mountains, which should be further forward, were similarly invisible, and the occasional winds blowing from the west contained the kind of cold air that followed the dusk rain.

As I looked up into the sky, Guy brought a horse in front of the inn.

"I asked the innkeeper if he wanted to have a cup today in this weather. Let's leave for Armaswaite as planned."

"Right. If it rains badly, you can stay in the city on the way without having to. I'll leave it up to Guy to judge around here."

We left for Armaswaite still in the dark.

Likewise, the carriages departed early in the morning lined up, but we in light clothes quickly overtook them and headed west down the unobstructed streets.

We arrived in the city at the midpoint before noon with a few breaks in.

As yet, the rain has not fallen and we decided to head straight to Armaswaite when we asked the eastward travellers who had left Armaswaite that it had not.

Around 1 p.m., the rain finally begins to fall.

Weaving a hooded cape that combines rain gear, he travels west down the street avoiding a wagon coming from the front.

2 pm.

Gradually, the rain legs become stronger and it becomes more difficult to keep your eyes open.

And the street surfaces also start to get muddy, and from time to time horses get their feet taken.

We are already about 10 km from the town we have passed, and we are about 15 km away from our destination. If things are going well, we can reach our destination in about three hours, but the rain legs are getting stronger, making it difficult to determine if we want to move on.

"Dear Zach, Aren't you tired? If you're tired, I'll turn back."

Guy asks me that, but to the extent that I am somewhat mentally tired to manipulate horses in the rain, my body still has no problems. But I was more worried about Sharon, who wasn't physically fit than I was.

"I'm fine, but how's Sharon?

Sharon, with her hair on her forehead because of the rain, answers her temperament, "It's okay".

Guy says, "Everyone gets annoyed. Make sure you say that clearly if you can't," but he shook his neck to the side and replied, "It's okay."

"Now let's head to Armaswaite as planned. It doesn't matter if it's a little late. If you are tired or feel unusual about your horse, please let us know immediately"

Guy speaks to Liddy when me and Sharon nod.

"Mr. Lydia, at the rear, look at Master Zach and Sharon. If anything goes wrong, it stops right away."

As soon as Liddy nodded, he crossed the horse and left.

Rain legs intensify, while rain enters through the gap in the cape. The coat of leather, which should be oiled and waterproof, was getting heavier.

Proceed for another hour and take a break in the shade of a large tree.

Still, he said it was just past three o'clock, but the area was dark as it was at dusk because of thick black clouds.

Sharon had her body cut cold or her lips turned a little purple. I don't make any weak noises just shaking my neck vertically when I ask if it's okay.

I warm my water bottle herbal and say, "My body is cold, drink this" and hand it to Sharon.

Nodding small, he started drinking tea from the water bottle and redness was returning only slightly to his cheeks.

In the meantime, I whisper to Guy, "I'm worried about Sharon."

"It's okay. If it's going to be a trap, I'm going to leave it."

That's what he says in his mouth, but I can see a glimpse of him worrying about his daughter from a piece of his expression.

I unload my stuff off the horse and tell Guy and Liddy, "Put my stuff on Sharon's horse and we're going for two.

Guy shook his neck to the side, then said he'd put it on his own horse,

"Mine is lighter. For that matter, it would be difficult to strain the horse. Besides, Guy and Liddy better be free to move."

You agreed with me that Liddy had no choice, but Sharon at the time isn't convinced.

"It's okay. I won't bother you... I'm really fine."

But no matter how you look at it, you've reached the peak of fatigue and I don't think you can stand another two hours of riding.

"No. We'll be at Armaswaite in two hours. Until then, hold on to me."

Half-forced. That said, she nodded small.

My brother "Theo" and sister "Sella" had cancer during equestrian practice, so the two riders had done it several times. So I'm not so bad at it.

When I get on first and give her my hand, she grabs her hand, shyly groaning, "Please," she said. Liddy said "Oh," laughing, but I felt Guy's expression was getting slightly harsher.

(It's a sensible decision...... in the meantime, I need to forget about Guy and focus on manipulating the horse......)

I made sure Sharon stuck to me and went out on the street again.

Though restarted, the rain legs never weakened, the heavy rain continued like flipping a bucket, and the sound of rain pounding the hood of the cape was loud.

The streets are completely immersed in water and only slightly visible is the raised part of the grass between them.

There are no travellers coming from the front already, just lightly dressed travellers running through from behind.

Wet clothes were also felt warm because of Sharon's temperature on his back.

I pinch a break along the way, but Sharon was also recovering considerably, and her complexion was completely restored to redness.

Sharon has said, "It's all right now," but he said, "We're almost there. I may not like it, but be patient with me," he told the two of us to ride the horse again.

After 4 pm, the thunder begins to sound. Forests are nearby, but there is a risk of lightning strikes on streets with few obstacles.

"There's thunder, but what do we do?

When I asked Guy that,

"There's still a distance. Besides, there's nowhere to evacuate around here. It would be safer to hurry ahead."

I do have more than twenty seconds to hear thunder from the lightning. But the lightning was visible from the west, in our direction.

(It's still five or six km away now, but isn't the lightning strike happening near the destination? Besides, thunderclouds should have traveled pretty fast...... but running into the woods increases the risk of lightning strikes, and Guy is right, we just have to hurry ahead......)

After 5: 30 p.m., we arrived at the destination Armaswaite. Thunder I was concerned about, but luckily Thundercloud left me to the north, so I didn't get to the point where I felt dangerous.

The city of Armaswaite is a fortified city.

Due to this rain, few people were at the East Gate where we arrived, and we were able to conduct the entry process immediately.

Armaswaite is an accomodation town with a population of about 5,000, but it was previously a castle fortress on the frontier of the Caerm Empire.

It has a perimeter of about 1 km per side and is the size of the standard fortified city of the Caerm Empire.

The walls are made of stone about ten meters high, by the way there are spires, and from the outside they really only look like castles.

Into the city, he immediately went for the inn.

Go down the boulevard through the east and west, but because of the heavy rain, there are few people on the street and the stores are closed.

From what the gatekeeper told me, there was an inn somewhat north of the center, and due to the low number of merchant arrivals today, it would be empty everywhere.

In the rain, I found the inn when I went around 6pm.

When I enter the inn, I finally get comfortable and exhale in a ho.

While Guy's in the process, I'll check on Sharon.

"Are you feeling all right? If there's anything unusual about cold or hot, I'll fix it right away."

She shook her neck to the side and then said, "Thank you," a little shy, and she kept her head down with a pepper.

I raise my hand gently, "Don't worry about it," and I speak to Liddy, who is lying next to me.

"At this point, you're not going to be able to move after tomorrow. Still, I can afford it in time, but don't regret killing time with Periclitle."

"It's about a hundred kilometers from here to Doctus. I'll put it on in three days, so there's no rush. Besides, I've been wet for quite a while, so I need to make sure I don't catch a cold."

I say, "I'm fine," and I laugh, "I can manage with healing magic."

"Right. Your healing magic cures strangely well."

Normal healing magic does not work well against diseases of the internal medicine system. Using the healing magic of water attributes can also cure colds and the like to some extent, but in normal healers it doesn't work as well as being told that using medicinal herbs is faster to cure than using magic.

In my case, healing magic works well, either because I understand the structure of the human body or because I know somewhat what causes the disease. In the case of colds, water attribute magic gives the image of boosting immunity in the blood, and further wood attribute magic reduces inflammation of the throat and lungs, which will heal in a short period of time.

Of course he thinks it's strange to heal in my image, neither myself nor the doctor.

But I have one hypothesis for this.

Magic empowers the Spirit with the magic (MP) of an operator. In my case, I believe that the image of boosting immunity may be directly administering the power of the Spirit to the patient as magic = life support. That is, the idea is that you are feeling better by injecting the magic (MP) needed to sustain your life directly into your body like an infusion.

Because I have strong resistance to the disease myself, I don't know because I have never slept with it, but I think that MP may be reduced by suffering from the disease.

"Whatever the cold is, I'm tired, so you just want to get dressed fast."

Guy came back after the process.

"Dinner seems to be ready to eat. After all, we don't seem to have many guests."

With that said, he gave us the keys to the room and went outside to take the horse to the stables.

We walked into the room and finally got dressed wet.

The following July 13th.

I wake up before dawn as usual, but I could hear the rain knocking on the wooden windows.

Apparently, it was raining yesterday.

We head to the backyard as usual, but although the rain legs have weakened slightly over yesterday, they are not enough to leave.

(You're stuck here today. Well, can I rest because I couldn't yesterday)

I do a bare act in the rain.

Morning and evening workouts are essential even in the rain at the Lockhart family.

When the leather long pants get wet, it is cumbersome to take care of them, so I change into cloth ones and go outside. It quickly gets heavier in the rain, but sometimes it's called summer rain, and I don't feel the cold.

I will be more careful than usual to bare my feet and hands because they slip.

Through the dining room window, many guests look at us uncommonly. I suppose you think he's the guy you like.

Exactly in the rain the mock fight was dangerous, so Guy and I were barebacking. Sharon tried to join us, but Guy was making us stop thinking about yesterday's fatigue.

Change your wet clothes and go get breakfast.

Guy was confirming today's weather to the innkeeper along the way, but he was still expecting the day to continue descending like this.

The four of us will discuss our plans for today as we grab breakfast.

"Let's meet up for today's departure. The rain from yesterday will make the streets worse."

Me and Liddy snort at Guy's opinion, too.

I asked the three of you for your opinion on what I was going to do.

"Right. In this rain, you won't be able to see the city, and the store will be closed. Rent an Alliance training ground to train or rest for a day"

"Right. Ordinary students will study at the inn, but you don't have to... I'll take my time at the inn."

Looks like Liddy's going to gobble up at the inn all day.

Liddy doesn't really like to move his body. I'm eating a good amount for it, but there's no sign of fattening at all. The elves I saw in the city of Periclitle were also probably a pedigree trait because they were all slim.

Guy replies, "I'm going to move my body," and Sharon is also nodding.

I decided to go out with it, too, and after breakfast, I weaved my cape and left for the rainy city.

By the way, wet capes, clothes, etc. were magically dried by me and Liddy. It's a warm wind magic I thought about for pest control, but it can also be used to dry clothes. It's a treasure.

Armaswaite's Adventurer Guild was built near the center of the city, alongside the Mercenary Guild.

The training ground is right behind it, and several mercenaries and adventurers are already sweating into the training. We go into a hot and humid training ground, too, and it's been a long time since I've sweated into full-scale training.

In the meantime, I was blinded by the appearance of one mercenary.

The man was a man in his mid-thirties, but he was a giant man nearly 2m, with a large two-handed sword that matched it. There is a fellow-like elf man on the side, and the two of us do mock wars from time to time.

Despite the giant, the man's movements were sharp and accurate. My grandfather's sword speed was also fast, but the sword waved at a rate far above it was enough to hear wind incisions even from more than ten meters away.

The elf beside him feels floating, but the movement of the sabel in his hand looks comparable to that of his grandfather.

I didn't think, "Those two are amazing," he muttered.

Did Guy have the same sentiment as me, "The world is huge. I didn't expect to have as many users as any other than my predecessors," he praised.

(I heard they hire first-class mercenaries because west of Doctus is a dangerous area. Maybe it's the mercenary. Still, I guess he's a famous swordsman...... a little more, he went to ask me to teach him if I had an arm, but now my arm doesn't even deserve to ask him to teach)

Besides us, you noticed those two, some of them were talking.

You two found it annoying or left the training ground in about thirty minutes.

"I wanted to see some more... must be a named mercenary"

In the end, I didn't know their names, but they left a strong impression on me.

Cut the training before noon and return to the inn once. And I also spent my time training from noon.

The rain continued the next day, and after two more days, on the night of July 16th, the rain finally stopped.

(The warm sea is far away, and the terrain is close to a basin surrounded by mountains. I don't think there will be long rains on this terrain... are the maps sloppy or are there different factors from the Earth... Either way, I can leave tomorrow. You can reach Doctus on the 4th, the day before the deadline and the 20th even if you don't hurry)

July 17th the following day.

The blue sky has been expanding since morning, and I haven't been in the sun for five days.

The streets were muddy that day, it was difficult to say how well, but after the next day the weather was fully restored, and on the 19th of July the following day we were able to enter the academic city of Doctus.
