Dream Life

Episode XIX: The Effect of Canes

We were in the north woods of Doctus because the move was over and we had time until the practical exams.

To the north of Doctus lies the forest, and beyond it lies a mountainous area inhabited by many demons called the Saeum Mountains.

Until hundreds of years ago, the Saeum Mountains had many pioneering villages in the Kingdom of Lax, where incomplete but mountainous streets existed and were developing. But the invasion began suddenly at the whim of the emperor of the Caerm Empire, and the pioneering village on the south side of the Saeum Mountains, with weak supply roads, was all destroyed before the kingdom established its defensive posture.

The empire, which had originally gained territory, planned to proceed with the colonization, but the colonization was not quite advanced due to the large number of demons around here and the need for troops to protect the settlers. The Governor of the North, who also manages the North, was opposed to the invasion of the Kingdom of Lax, so he was savotage for whatever reason. In time the emperor of the day died and the northern policies of the empire changed, making the southern side of Saeum a land completely abandoned and abandoned by men.

As a result, demons living in mountainous areas bred without being hunted. As a result, more demons descended the mountains in search of food and appeared in the streets and cities.

Here Doctus is no exception, and many demons are now entering the new city. Therefore, the Adventurer Guild decided to accept the ex-post application for demons crusaded in the woods and mountains only to Doctus.

In other lands, only the demons requested are paid, and only the Demon Crystal Quarter makes money. But here in Doctus, many adventurers go into the woods because, in addition to the proceeds of the sale of the Demonic Crystal Stone, they can even be rewarded for fulfilling the request.

As a result, the new city, with only a simple fence, also saw a drastic reduction in demonic damage. However, the number of crusades in the forest did not decrease because the mountainous areas from which it was supplied were untouched.

We go into the woods like that and hunt demons.

The demons that emerged were varied. He also encountered veterinary systems such as wolves and bears, insect systems such as giant spiders, ghost systems such as goblins and oaks, botanical systems such as blood vampires, and even necromancers such as skeletons.

The first skeleton I saw was more of a surprise than a horror.

I don't know what the principle is even though it's just bone, but I'm walking with a cuckoo. It looked just like the CG in the movie and even had a ready-made sense of vision.

(I don't know if Hollywood's CG is awesome, or if my sensibilities are dull, but it's real, but thanks for the lack of realism)

But when I actually fought, it wasn't CG or anything, it was definitely a presence with mass. Because of the rusty sword swinging at a good speed, the sword wind can be felt on his face along with the wind incision called Bhu, and if he meets the sword, he was sometimes pushed into a stronger force than he thought.

There was surprise, but Skeleton was not such a strong demon. You have a low level of swordsmanship, and even if I tried melee, I didn't feel so threatened.

It's just that Sharon was at first frightened by the way it looked and didn't become a force for war. Again, I thought she was a girl and she was stingy.

In five days the swordsman level had risen from sixteen to seventeen and the wind attribute magic from twenty-three to twenty-four.

(Again, in action, level up faster. I don't know Sharon's level, but Liddy's leveled up, too, so maybe we should go into the woods more often in the future...)

As for Sharon, I don't know the magic level because I don't have an orb of magicians. But you'll be given an orb after you pass college, so you'll know the level in less than a month. From Liddy's point of view, there's about level fifteen.

He went into the woods every day and hunted around demons equivalent to classes VII and VIII, but his income is considerable.

The Demonic Crystal Stone equivalent to Level 7 is about 10C (Krona), 10,000 yen, and the equivalent of Level 8 is about 5C. Since the same amount of bounty comes out of the guild as a reward, he earned nearly 300C and 300,000 yen in five days.

Because Guy was there this time, he was able to hunt efficiently, but after Guy returns, it will be difficult to hunt so efficiently. But the fact that the aim of the battle in the woods was very helpful in thinking about the future.

(With a little more of my sign perception, I guess it will be more efficient, but I can't help but rush through all this. As much as I'm the only problem with the avant-garde after that? Well, if you don't get in the back of the woods or the mountains, you won't have a problem......)

I forgot to tell you, when I moved, I greeted the neighborhood.

I don't know if we have this kind of custom, but if we're going to spend five years here, we'd better get along with the neighborhood. I took a little souvenir and went around the neighborhood with Liddy and Sharon.

Next door to the right is a man's house named Frank Novello, who works for a dealer, and lives with his wife and three children. My husband, Frank, was about thirty years old and he felt like a quiet person. His wife, Hannah, was a woman with a bright feel in her mid-twenties or so, and what she loved to look after felt like Molly, Walt's wife with a squire head. The three children were all girls at eight years of age up there.

Next to me was the clerk at the Tilia School of Magic, a forty year old named Clint Littlef. I live with my wife and three daughters. Mr. Clint was a child-loving clerk and when he found out I was a student at the academy, he called out to me to work hard. Her wife, Helen, says she's a former teacher, and she also does a school that teaches kids around here to study. My daughter, Mr. Shemmy, is a seventeen-year-old private school student, a laid-back beauty. They have two other sons, but they both said they were leaving the house independently.

(I'm glad you seem like a nice guy next door. Other neighbors seemed like good people, maybe we'll hit here...)

The only adult of the three, Liddy, but she's highly people-friendly. I made a note to my neighbors' wives, Helen and Hannah, to explain it to them first.

"That's good," he laughed happily as we returned from around the greeting and explained to Guy that he seemed all right. And when I heard there were no boys around the same age in the neighborhood, he had a slightly ho look on his face.

I noticed it and almost erupted by accident.

(In a way, Sharon grew up in a greenhouse. The only boys of my generation around were me and her brother Dan... because Guy is sweet on Sharon no matter what...)

After I go into the woods, I go to the Adventurer Guild, but basically I have Guy and Liddy go.

Asking Guy why, he said that with us as kids, we could be obsessed. I don't know why I didn't pin it, but maybe I'm trying to tell you it's not a world where kids come.

After Guy returns to Rasmore Village, he'll be letting Liddy go alone, so that's going to cause problems and I'm worried.

It was quickly the day before the practical exam because it confirmed the neighborhood's greetings and crusades in the woods, where to buy groceries, etc.

That day I went into the woods until around 3: 00 p.m., after which I decided to go to the final confirmation of tomorrow's exam.

I was checking the test start time and so on two days ago, and I didn't think it was necessary, but Liddy told me that there might be a sudden change and I decided to go check again.

I saw Sharon, who seemed anxious and had no city tax, and decided that the two of us would head to the college.

Going around the College Gate, several students roamed the school yard with tense faces inside.

Looks like today's student, nervous and restless.

Once inside the school building, the test schedule for tomorrow was sticking out.

I'm the fifteenth in the morning and Sharon the sixteenth. Twenty men are due in the morning, so around eleven o'clock will be our time.

"You'll be fine tomorrow if you come around 10: 00. We'll be done in the morning, and don't be free in the afternoon."

Sharon doesn't respond to my words. I wondered, and when I looked at her, I realized I was staring at the students.

I said, "Is something wrong?," he said.

"Gentlemen, I have a wand..."

That's what she told me, and when I looked around, all the students had canes with demonic crystal stones embedded in their tips. It varied from shorter ones of about thirty cm to larger ones exceeding 1,5 m.

"Right. Even if I read the precautions, I guess I could bring them in because nothing was written about holding the cane. What's wrong with that?

"Uh... is it okay if we don't..."

Apparently, we are anxious not to have a wand that is the only magic prop we have.

"Don't you want it? I've never used a cane before. First of all, I don't even use Liddy, who uses magic in action. Wouldn't that be a problem?

Sharon nodded cocklessly, but still, watched the flickering and the students around him.

(Unlike people, I get anxious, so I don't know... why don't you talk to Liddy later?)

I went home and told Liddy about the wand.

When she heard the story, she looked surprised.

"Oh, you can bring in the wand now. I didn't realize you couldn't bring it in when I was a kid."

"Really... that was a blind spot"

When I said that with a serious face, she started laughing with Kerakera.

"Really, you care about weird things. Hehe... I don't need a cane from you guys. I can still fight enough demons... and I almost adorn my wand..."

Her story is that the magician's wand is a magic prop that increases the efficiency when gathering the power of the Spirit, but whatever luxury items the court magic master has, the wand that a child has can barely rest.

"Maybe it's a recent epidemic. The old magician didn't have a cane... you shouldn't have it because when you're a kid, you have trouble relying on a cane."

I'm convinced of that word, but Sharon doesn't look very convinced.

If you are out in the world for the first time and feel different from people, you will have no choice but to be anxious.

"With that said, didn't Liddy have a cane, too?

"Yeah, I have it. Because I get it when I graduate...... for once, I still have it?

"Can you lend me that? I want to try it now without a cane and see how different"

Liddy went back to his room and brought a simple cane about fifty cm long.

"For once, they say it's a first-class product that you get a chief graduate... you can use it and you'll see"

It was already after 5 p.m. and since it was dangerous to go to the woods, it was decided to conduct a brief experiment in the backyard.

The easiest thing to understand was that it would be time to activate, and we decided to shoot the maximum output air hammer (air hammer) towards the sky.

The result was to the extent that using a cane could shorten the time by about 10% compared to if you cast a spell without a cane.

But the magic power consumed (MP) was the same, and I didn't feel a dramatic difference like the presence or absence of a spell.

(If you're in battle, I think this time difference is pretty big, but if you're the type with the bow in your hand like Liddy, this wand will only get in the way. So you don't use a cane......)

"It certainly doesn't have that dramatic effect. Sharon will know if you try."

Give Sharon the wand and give up the place.

She let the air hammer (air hammer) go towards the sky just like I did, watching carefully the wand she had for the first time.

"I feel like we got together a little early," he muttered, looking up at the sky, returning his wand to Liddy.

"You're not so different. To that extent, it would be more user-friendly to have another weapon. Well, if you're a magician who only uses attack magic, you might want to have one."

(Does that mean if you're a magician who unleashes magic as a turret, you need it? You don't need the type to use other weapons like me or Liddy. Then Sharon is subtle. Swordsmanship is about protection, so you won't join the fight with a sword. Then you might want to have a cane......)

"You can have a cane. Unlike me and Liddy, Sharon specializes in magic."

She shook her head sideways and said, "It doesn't matter if it's not there. Because it seems expensive," he replies.

"I'll lend you my cane. I'll give you anything. I'm not using it anyway."

Sharon shakes her head even harder at Liddy's words.

I'm in trouble. Look at Sharon.

"Whatever you want, why don't you borrow it when you go into the woods? It's safer."

Liddy nodded at my words, and I said, "Tomorrow's exam should be whatever Sharon wants," and I received a cane from Liddy, sticking it out in front of Sharon.

Sharon, a little lost, said, "You can be with Master Zach," and pushed back.

I gave Liddy my wand back, and I said, "But how much is a magician's wand worth?," he asked. She tries to tip her little neck a little,

"Right. I'm not interested, so I don't know... I do think this wand was about 10,000 C (Krona) (= 10 million yen) because it uses a third level Demon Crystal Stone. I've heard that millions of C's don't come down on what the court magician has..."

(Even Liddy's wand costs 10 million yen... and billions of yen? That's a price you can buy a little fighter. With that much cane, can it increase its power or reduce its consumption MP?

At least Sharon's anxiety seemed to have been allayed, and the anxious look like when he returned had disappeared.
