Dream Life

Episode XX: Practical Exams

August 3.

It was practical exam day.

Sometimes it's just midsummer, it's hot and humid in the morning and a little weak.

My room is southeast upstairs, but last night I opened a wooden window and slept without wind, and it was hot and humid in the room. Because there was no convenient device called a reticle, mosquitoes entered and this was one of the causes of sleep deprivation.

The apartment, by the way, but beside me, northeast was Liddy's room, and Sharon decided to take it to the southwest room across from me. The northwest room across from Liddy's room is for guests and Guy uses it.

Make a bare gesture, which is the usual routine, and then head to the well, which is a common water field.

Hannah next door has already come to fetch water and smiles and exchanges greetings.

I washed my face, wiped off the sweat and just neat, and when I got back to the house, Sharon had already finished preparing my breakfast.

The neighborhood is a residential area for people working in the old town, and the city stands nearby.

We were also taught by our neighbor Hannah to get some pretty good ingredients.

Breakfast is served with eyeballs in bread, vegetable soup with bacon and cheese in milk.

"Morning, Sharon. Looks like a delicious breakfast today."

When I say that, I look a little embarrassed, and I say, "Good morning," and I bow my head with a pepper.

Guy's already on the table and Liddy comes down at the end.

(Liddy's the easiest thing Sharon's doing together. Well, I'm a lot easier, too)

After breakfast, we had a relaxing time and Sharon and I headed to the college.

It was pretty early after 9: 00 a.m., but there was nothing to do, so I fell asleep in the shade of the school yard. Sharon sits right next to me and the two of us relax and look out into the sky.

I glanced up at Sharon and said, "Are you nervous?," he asked.

"It's okay. I'll do whatever I want."

That's what I said and I was smiling.

There is no color of anxiety in that smile and you really don't look nervous.

(But it's amazing. That was true at the time of the written exam, but I'm not so nervous even though it's my first exam. It's really amazing even though it's an interview-like exam every single one of us gets today. I remember I was pretty nervous when I took the joining exam...)

After about an hour of relaxation, I heard the ten o'clock bell.

I slowly woke up and said, "I think it's time to get into the waiting room, and let's go that way," and headed to the classroom designated for the waiting room.

There were about five students waiting in the waiting room.

Are they all nervous, no one chats, eager to read something like a reference book.

(Do you mean the five of us for another hour or so? I guess I could have been lying down a little longer. Still, aren't we all bees except us? Well, maybe this is normal......)

When we wait, all of a sudden, galleries and doors open and they call us numbers and names.

The students reacted with Vikri to the sound, and the called students left the waiting room with officials in walking directions such as kakukaku.

After waiting about an hour, my turn finally came around.

"Five hundred and twenty-five, Mr. Zacharias Lockhart"

I say yes well and get up.

"You will head with me to the exam venue. Like sitting around waiting until you have instructions to come in from the venue."

I said yes and nodded, but the staff stopped wondering.

"Is the wand good? If you go to the exam venue, you won't be able to go back and get your things."

"It's okay. Because you don't need a cane."

The official nodded small and walked out.

The exam venue was like a gymnasium behind a school building.

I guess this is the magic practice ground because it looks just like the training ground in the guild.

There was a table outside the venue, where female officials sat.

"Give me your exam number and name. Then get the orb out too."

As I was told, give me your exam number and name and show me the orb.

"Lockhart, you are. I'm almost done with my previous child, so hang there and wait."

Somehow I feel like I've been seen with curiosity in my eyes, but I don't mind sitting in a chair and waiting.

Clarifying his ears, he heard a dry noise called Conn, like when something hard hit a wooden plate from inside.

(I wonder if it sounded like a magic shot and a target hit. That sounds mild. It just sounds like you threw a stone over there...)

The noise stopped, and soon the students came out. He's doing the trick of wiping his eyes with his cuffs, so maybe he was crying.

After the previous student left the exam venue, two or three minutes later, he said, "Five hundred and twenty-five, Mr. Zacharias Lockhart. Inside," he says.

As he opened the large door of the tree and went inside, the ground, like the guild's training ground, was built like a bumpy gymnasium, as expected.

A desk and chair are arranged on the right hand side, with about ten officials seated. I guess some of them are graders.

Is he a facilitator, a man about forty years old started explaining the exam.

"Exams show you the magic you're best at. Show us the best magic you can put out. If you need a target, you can aim for the back one. Any questions?

I said, "No," and I approached him.

There was a "start" signal from the facilitator, and I gave my regards to the staff before turning to the target.

I decided to use a whirlwind blade (windblade) that suppressed my output today, so I slowly cast a spell.

"It is the god of the wind (Wentus) who brings many winds. Tear away the wind, give me the blade of the Spirit. I do not give you the power of my life. Tear my enemies apart! Whirlwind Blade!"

The blade of the transparent vacuum is directed with the signal of activation.

When the magic blade was struck, which was made of planks of trees on all sides, a sound of bakickness appeared in the planks of the tree with a large crack.

A sighing exclamation was leaking from the officials.

(Have you overpowered it a little? No, that would be just about right......)

With the meaning that I'm done, I bow my head.

"That's fine with the magic right now. If you're not convinced, you can start over."

When I shook my head to the side and tried to answer that it was enough now, a young male employee stood up.

"This exam is supposed to show you the best magic you can put out. Are you insisting that this is the best magic? It just seemed out of hand to me, though?

The man looked good, he was an elf with long ears. If you're worried about how I'm going to answer, that elf man...

"If you're going to lose your hand, you're not going to pass. Can you show me what you mean?"

The facilitator said, "Dr. Raspade. I have trouble getting people to decide whether to accept or not on their own," he said embarrassingly, then turned to me and cautioned with a slightly stronger tone.

"Mr. Lockhart. Take it seriously, too. Now seriously, shoot your best magic."

(Seriously... I can't help it. Halfway through, I guess you'll notice someone saying you were Dr. Raspade earlier. I can't help it, let's just say I'm serious... the most powerful magic I can use right now is the Great Storm (Tempest), but I wonder if it can be used in this small space...)

"Excuse me. It's dangerous in this venue, can I shoot you outside?

When I say that, a man in progress says, "Dangerous? It's just taking so long. Fine, shoot me here!," he said, reinforcing his temper.

I don't care what happens to me, but I bow my head.

Then he started casting a big storm (Tempest) spell.

"It is the god of the wind (Wentus) who brings many winds. Feast of the Spirit of the Wind, seeking a great storm. I give you the power of my life..."

It builds up the power of the Spirit for about thirty seconds, and when it decides that activation is possible, it releases the last word of activation.

"... blow it, the wind! Tempest!"

With the completion of the spell, a wind with cold air begins to blow in the 30m square test venue.

Gradually the wind concentrated, forming a vortex about 15 m in diameter and 10 m in height.

This is not the end of the magic of the Great Storm. Concentrating winds become upward airflow, winding up objects on the ground. And there are countless blades of ice in that vortex, and that blade rips through the vortex.

Sometimes this time it is a small space, I tried to increase the curvature of the wind and narrow the diameter as much as possible. And only for that narrow portion will the ice blade be dense, making it more powerful magic.

Although the diameter was reduced, it was activated against the wall to prevent danger to myself and the staff, thus blowing up several nearby doors and wooden windows for lighting. Even though the danger does not extend, there is also a fairly strong breeze blowing around the officials and the paperwork at their disposal is making a bumpy noise.

A bunch of paperwork flew out of the hands of one alarmed man. The paperwork is caught in an intense vortex, ripped to bits with an ice blade, while it rises to the ceiling. And the pieces of paperwork that left the vortex fell to the venue like a paper blizzard.

The magic of the Great Storm disappears once and for all after about a minute.

I looked back quietly and said, "That's my limit now. By the way, you won't be charged for repairing doors and windows," he said, bowing his head.

The facilitator is still confused and speechless.

An official called Raspade laughed out loud,

"Yeah, yeah, I did mean it this time! You don't have to worry about the repair bill. You said it was dangerous from the start."

No one but Mr. Raspade speaks, but decided the exam was over and tried to head outside again.

Mr. Raspade's cheerful voice hangs on my back.

"Lockhart, that was you. My name is Lionel Raspade. Come visit me in my lab anytime."

When I waved to answer that, I heard more tense voices.

"That's right! Quit being a student and become my assistant! I'll coach you directly!

I said to myself, "Quit or nothing, I haven't even passed yet," and then I shut up and bowed my head and went outside.

Outside there stood a female employee who was at the reception. Apparently, all of a sudden, he was surprised that the wooden windows and doors of the training ground, the test venue, had flown away.

Sharon, the next student, was also surprised, but that seemed to surprise me for not getting out of hand.

I bow my head gently to the female employee and speak to Sharon waiting beside me.

"Because they say you can shoot as much magic as you want. He said it's okay if the building breaks down."

When I said that with a laugh, she looked strange.

Waiting away from the test venue sounds a heavy noise called Dawn. And then, after a while, came Sharon, who seemed a little anxious.

I was like, "What's up?," he asked.

"I shot the air hammer, but the target broke. Those people over there were in a hurry...... are you ok?

Apparently, as I said, I unleashed the magic of the air hammer as much as I wanted, and the roar earlier was the sound of her magic.

"It's okay. I broke the door and the window, but someone over there told me not to worry about it. I don't think there's anything quite right about that."

I put my hand on Sharon's shoulder, which still seemed anxious, and said, "Let's have lunch, then go home," and started walking.

――――

Rionel Raspade, who was at the exam venue, returns to his lab after seeing the two students. From behind, the head of the practical exam said, "It's not over yet! I can hear you say," You don't have any more interesting (...) students, do you? Then you don't have to have me, "he said, not stopping walking just gently with his hands up.

(hehe...... and funny. I tried to come and ask you to look at it because it has all the attributes, but it was funnier than I thought... he would have used the Great Storm Tempest, but that is something that is infinitely closer to the original magic. The magic of tempest is the magic of the wind attribute. Originally, it's magic that cleaves with a vacuum blade, not an ice blade...)

And I couldn't hide my surprise from the other girl student either.

(That girl is a genius, too. It's just an air hammer, but for the efficiency of magic, it's more than a lockhart. No, that's not the case with anyone as efficient as even courtroom magicians in the mentor class. its also without a cane...... nevertheless its something funny students came in this year)

He went back to his lab, talking to himself about bumps.
