Chapter 76 - 72: The Silent Dance at the Forest

After a few minute of running, Sake quickly arrived at the inn ignoring the startled owner who was leaving after hearing the warning.

"William!!!" Sake rushed to William's room at haste and tried to slam the door open when…

Grab

[Don't idiot!] A disembodied voice was heard behind her and she felt something grabbing her. Startled, she looked back just in time to see her shadow being grabbed by a black hand.

"You… why is someone from the temple of death doing here!" She lashed out in anger and tried to smash the black hand with a hand magically endowed by a type of energy.

[It's me Yamada damn it!!] The disembodied voice suddenly cried out in panic slipping out his identity as the 'brother' of the guy at the room.

"Eh? Yamada~? What are you doing then?" Sake said while sighing in relief.

[I am talking currently at you using this incarnation and I need you to go back to the guild at the southern sector of the city. Some important people is searching for your assistance as we speak.] Yamada replied.

"Then what about your brother William? And why did you stopped me from knocking the door?" Sake asked noticing something strange about his timing.

[Don't worry about him, you might had been snagged by the traps the guy placed.] Yamada replied.

"…Hah!?" Sake, disbelieving at his claim scrutinized at the door and finally noticed the abnormality in it and cried out in shock.

[Trust me, even the leader of the Lost Banshees is not confident in bypassing the things he placed. Currently, I believe he is busy training and I can't contact him when he isolated himself this hard. Now go, my original will meet you at the guild!] Yamada cried out in a hurry.

"You… you better take care and protect your brother ok!" Sake, looked deeply at the area she felt his presence and rushed back downstairs to get her old gear.

[Haa…. No words of concern for me huh~. Well you better hurry up Will cause it will be a looong night tonight~] With those words the incarnation swiftly vanished.

*Yamada's POV*

'Hmmm good, townspeople pace is good. While in the forest… tch, what the hell that's a lot of monsters.' Yamada mentally said while rushing back to the guild. The original him is currently jumping from roof to roof while avoiding the guards and had been very busy 'removing' the monsters that had already infiltrated or those humans who wanted to use this opportunity to steal using his incarnations in multiple areas.

"… I can't sense the leader of the hoard… hmmm? Adventurers!? Why did they not leave the forest yet, shit!" Yamada whispered a bit till he sensed an anomaly at the forest. Thinking so, he closed his eyes and ordered the incarnations around that area.

*3rd Person POV*

"Ha…*rustle* ha… ha..~" A heavy breathing sound echoed out of the strangely silent forest. With the approaching night, and with the rustling of the leaves, 3 silhouettes are swiftly barely being seen running at the direction of the town of Raft. With a triangle formation, they swiftly and dodged the natural obstacles of the forest with a constant pace of speed and ingenuity. Looking closely, all three of them wore loose and light clothes and had carried weapons suitable for their frames.

One, tall and lanky in particular carried a long bow at his back while nervously holding the hilt of his sheathed sword in his waist as if prepared for an incoming assault while running swiftly in one direction.

Another one, this time a female that had tied her hair in a loose braid had a pair of short swords attached at her waist and she wore a dark green formfitting clothes with the minimal armor made of unknown leather that protects her vital points. Her sharp looking eyes in particular is what drawed her unique aspect and her light footed gait as if calculating her every step.

Lastly one who's gender cannot be determined by the cloak and mask covering their visage. The clothes in particular seems to hid perfectly their frame and what drawned on their somewhat tall experienced build is the various short daggers attached at their body and what hidden weapons their body may had hid.

"S#it… why did we take this job anyway?" The lanky man complained with a low tone, leading at the right side busy darting his gaze here and there while maneuvering easily while trying to minimize the sound he made.

"Do note that you wanted to do this job so you can protect 'your' women at a certain district right?" The only female of the trio voiced out particularly in a sharp and swift tone. Ignoring the guy who nearly stumbled at the words he heard, she looked at the left side of their formation in particular at the mysteriously clad companion of theirs.

"Link, does that 'thing' still chasing us?" The female asked.

"…It is still pursuing, and moving fas–WHAT!!" The man silently spoke in a low tone when he suddenly shouted in surprise.

"Wh– [Found~ you puny humans~….]" The female adventurer tried to speak something when a disembodied and twisted voice spoke behind them. In panic, they looked behind them just in time to see what seemed to be black rag of cloth hiding a humanoid gaseous silhouette literally chasing from their back.

With its only distinctive features of red eyes and what seemed to be a mouth jagged with sharp teeth alongside a swirling mass of mist, it cackled maliciously while it is swiftly catching to them.

[Ahhh~ I had failed my master~… to let you ants even see a bit of his glory before his entrance on the battlefield~… YOU RATS SHOULD BE PUNISHED WITH DEATH FAR MORE GRUESOME THAN WHAT YOU CAN IMAGINE!!!] The shadow roared in madness and with a burst, he quickly vanished yet reappeared at the back of the lanky adventurer.

"Wha– *bang!* Kahaak !!" The man instinctively unsheathed his sword and tried to block the hand-like appendage of the shadow that suddenly turned into a sharp spear only for him to flew at the repulsive force only to recoil back in pain when he smashed into a tree.

"Ivan!" The female adventurer cried out in panic and tried to rush back only to be grabbed by Link.

"Let me go! We need to save him!" The woman emotionally cried looking at the fellow adventurer she had teamed up for years. When Link forcefully nudged her arm, she looked back and saw him only shake his head.

"Go…*cough* *cough* *spit* Tell Eli that the will I placed in that tag is enough to free her from that hell hole." Ivan wheezed amidst the pain racking his body and threw his dog tag to Link and saw him just in time to catch it. Having a last look at his companions, he took the bow at his back and nocked an arrow in it and aimed at the monstrosity that keeps looking at him like a toy.

"Now you piss of shit. Better say your last prayers cause the great Ivan will skewer you with his arrow!" Ivan proudly said while resting his back against the tree and when he saw them leave.

[Ke~ ke~ ke~. Ant, you should have just cried out in fear and beg for mercy! Now I will be forced to slowly kill you amidst the pain in front of your companions!!!Ke~ ke ke~!!!] The monster cried out with no mercy and with a single step, it suddenly reappeared in front of Ivan making him freeze in fear looking at what seemed to be its face.

[Now~…. Shall we cut your legs first~?] The monster cried out slowly and in one swift motion, swung its sharp blade-like appendage at is lower half when…

*Clang!*

It was suddenly deflected from a black blade that suddenly appeared from the ground. Shocked at the unknown individual that intervened, the monster backed off swiftly like a startled animal.

[Keheek~!!? Who is there!!!] The startled monster screeched like how it should be rang out as it's 'head' if you call it, darted here and there looking for its mysterious assailant.

[You know~… I hate to say~ but I just love breaking death flags when I see one~] Another disembodied voice rang out of the forest but instead of a tone and voice that denotes of the owner's inhumane personality, this time a playful and male voice echoed out.

[Who the hell are you!?] The monster roared in anger, finally looking at Ivan's shadow. As if on cue, an incorporeal being slowly 'crawled' out from Ivan's shadow startling the man.

[Ya know, I had thought that this forest is currently off limits to humans dude~] Finally forming a body, the 'shadow' had formed what seemed to be a man's silhouette wearing what seemed to be robes used by the intelligent unit of a 'certain' kingdom turned to glance at Ivan.

[You… your Zero!!! How did you know of our plans!!!] The monster screeched 'realizing' the man's identity making the shadow raise what seems to be his eyebrows.

[Coincidence, really I was just passing by on the town and I smelled something suspicious about the place so I investigated~. Now, where here and man your such a 'unique' piece of monster flesh aren't ya~.] 'Zero' spoke in a frivolous voice while secretly signaling Ivan to leave.

[Kehek~ no worries, your just one of his phantoms that means I can still take care of you before 'your original' co–Kyaaaahaak!!] The monster tried to triumphantly tell 'Zero' about something when suddenly, three daggers silently stabbed at it's back.

[And who said I am the only 'one' here~ Mr. piece of rag?] On cue, multiple shadows appeared encircling and eyeing the monster dangerously.

[You… you bastard!!!] The monster cried out in anger and attacked the nearest shadow.

[Ho~… seems you still retained some clarity~.] 'Zero' praised a bit noticing that it attacked the shadow guarding the direction deeper to the forest. Noticing that the adventurer successfully escaped, all incarnations unsheathed their weapons and rushed at the now panicking shadow.

[Tch, it was merely a part of an annoying monster huh…] After finally slaying the monster, 'Zero' which is actually an incarnation Yamada controlled, clicked what it seems to be his tongue in annoyance while observing the slowly dispersing shadow.

Grabbing the small piece of monster core, it left, the incarnations looked at the direction the 'soul' of the monster swiftly escaped and pondered something silently.

[Haaa, seems the forest is cleared of humans now… well I better go and preserve some energy for the original…] The incarnation softly thought and with a signal, all incarnation swiftly dispersed retaining the forest's silence.
