Fate/Inheritance

Chapter 78 - 74: The Hoard Arrives!

At the top of the wooden fortified wall, Archer's are already lined up, nervous at what is incoming. The torches and magical lights making their visage more solemn than normal. Below, the adventurers had successfully dug trenches and placed spiked wooden logs at the ground to stop any incoming charge. Looking from above, Yamada observed what is going on silently while Sake is busy polishing her blade.

"Oi… your hiding something right?" Yamada suddenly broke the silence and looked at Sake in a serious look.

"Hmm? What are you talking about?" Sake tilted her head, confusion apparent at her face.

"Don't hide it. When you talked about that thing. You know something of it and hid it from us." Yamada seriously said, his usual playfulness gone.

"…" They stared at each other seriously for a second till Sake sighed ruefully.

"Your sharp. Unlike your brother." Sake, said while Yamada merely shrugging at the praise.

"He actually have a sharper sense than me. It's just tuned in another direction." Yamada said earning a nod from Sake who knows what he 'meant'.

"I did not want to tell it because it would pull a lot of bad memories from me but yes… I did hide something. About the style the monster fought." Sake slowly said.

"And?" Yamada asked, now curious.

"It was a bit similar… to mine." Sake said, startling the young hero.

"Your brother knows of it already…but I had a family once. I raised my child, a boy till he reached a.d.u.l.thood. Something bad happened and we got separated, his fate unknown to me. I-I did not want to believe it is him and Caren knew of my inner turmoil that's why she forced me to retire…" Sake said with a trembling voice.

"…*sigh* But you know… the identity of our enemy right now. A bastard manipulating the body of your love one, using it as he please just to get to his objective. You better get your heart ready, cause you're the one who is knowledgeable enough to confront him." Yamada slowly said calming down a sudden primal jealousy at his 'brother'.

"Y-yes… I guess I would haha~… Thank you Yamada. If you were not a pervert surely you would had been famous to the ladies." Sake said laughing, her atmosphere returning to normal.

"Well… can't help it it's in my nature~." Yamada said shrugging joining at her laughter. Till he sensed a slight rumbling from the forest.

"Hmmm?" Yamada slowly said donning a serious look, his shadows silently wriggled in anticipation. Sensing the changes, he had, Sake stood up and slung her giant sword in her back and looked at the direction of the forest. There, the silent dark forest a huge rumbling occurred. Countless glowing red eyes slowly snapped open akin to torchlights while the rumbling of the forest made countless birds fly away in a startled fashion.

"Welp, it's Narnia all over again. Or is it Game of Thrones? The Great Wall? Whatever I guess." Yamada talked something swiftly making Sake who was beside her look at him in confusion.

Looking at the countless hordes of goblins crying some war cries Yamada thought that they should had called the no. 1 Slayer of the species seeing the endless hoard.

*ROOOARRRR!!!!*

Hearing the startling cry, they looked further just in time for a gigantic goblin slowly appearing from the forest. With bulging muscles and shiny armor, the goblin cried out in primal greed when it saw the town and raised its sword and swung it to the town's direction and barked some order's in its primitive language.

"It seems their truly here…" A female voice suddenly called out behind them. Looking back, they saw Flama just in time landing gracefully at the wall they stood.

"The casters?" She asked.

"Already ready, madam~." Yamada said while doing a mock salute.

"Good, *slam* on my cue… fire those spells when I timed it!" Flama, slamming her staff on the wall, her orders echoed out of the wall and murmurs flew in the air akin to the silent whispers of the ghosts in the night.

Seeing the hoard slowly approach the designated areas, Flama gripped her staff tightly till her hands whitened from the strength.

100 meters…

85 meters…

60 meters…

40 meters…

10 meters…

3 meters…

"NOW!!!" On cue, countless colorful lights carpet bombed the area they designated and countless explosions rang out of the once silent night.

*Bang!!* *Crash* "Kyyaakk!" *BOOM!*

Countless successive explosions bombarded the open field engulfing it in thick smoke and the sonorous cries of the goblins also cried out akin to a melody. It took a whole minute till minute till the bombardment was over and silence slowly engulfed the battlefield.

The goblin cries had vanished, yet the silence was overwhelming that soldiers and adventurers alike nervously looked at the slowly dispersing smoke.

*flap*

"…Hmmm?" The sharp ears of those who worked as scouts alongside Yamada suddenly heard something. The confused scouts thought of something, yet those familiar of fighting a certain species of monsters had already identified it.

"HARPY!!!" Cried out one adventurer and as if on cue, the remaining smoke suddenly dispersed and a huge flock of n.a.k.e.d-like female monsters flapped their wings with their expression clouded in hunger and l.u.s.t cried out.

"KYAAAAAAAAK!!!" Countless screeching sounds temporarily lost the hearing of the defending soldiers and adventurers while the rushing harpies flapped their wings and dived to the poor victims with their sharp talons.

"Archers!!!" Cried out Van, and the harpies instead of greeting their prey a volley of countless arrows suddenly met them and shot them down the sky.

With the busy battlefield disorienting Yamada slightly, he picked up a particular fast paced footsteps and discerned their identity quickly.

"Incoming Garagas!!" He cried out and on cue, as if gigantic bullets countless silhouettes rushed to the frontline akin to wolves coming to swallow the flock of sheeps.

*Auuroo!* *Kyaaak!!* *RRrgggghhh!*

Countless mounted and wild Garagas pounced at their prey only to be greeted by the prepared traps and sharp logs skewering them or trapping them in place. Some of the Garagas slipped through the prepared area only to be greeted also by the people who prepared spears in advance that turned them into porcupines.

"What the hell their too many!" Yamada cried out while he repeatedly fired arrows akin to machine guns. Even if the guy did not practiced archery before and had no plan, the training he took under instructor Naruan forced him to learn countless ways to handle different weapons and now it finally got it's time to shine.

"Tch, shut up and just keep shootin' lad!" An adventurer beside him cried out in annoyance while he kept also some arrows. Sake is currently below on the ground and had already started her killing spree alongside some people supporting her while they guard the gate.

"Hmmm? Their planning to flank us!" Yamada noticed that two groups of goblins and what seems to be orcs tried to flank the walls from left and the right flanks.

Hearing his shout, Van barked some orders and two groups of skilled adventurers; the War Totems and the Wind's Call grabbed some adventurers and greeted the enemies in arrows and spells till they were not advancing anymore.

The battlefield's stalemate continued on while the corpses of the monsters slowly build a mountain. Noticing the ever growing corpses, Flama barked some orders and the fire magic users fired their spells and burnt them while the other already exhausted mages tried to recover some of their mana.

*Roooarrr!!!*

Countless startling bestial roars suddenly echoed out of the forest and the huge noise of something being uprooted, Yamada quickly realized what is incoming and cried out.

"Brace yourselves rascals!!!" He cried out and quickly ducked only hearing the cries of pain and the rumbling of the walls was heard.

"*cough* *cough* Did somebody watched the fking weather report that trees and boulders will rain today?" Yamada jokingly said while coughing madly amidst the smoke. Hearing the sharp screeches of arrows, he swiped his hands upwards and a startling phenomenon occurred.

The wall's shadow suddenly solidified and magically stood up, blocking the second batch of projectiles including the trees and boulders.

"*cough* *cough* *spit* Should had done that since the beginning" Yamada annoyingly said while blood flowed out of his nose alongside him coughing out some blood.

'Yaaaay~ I did the usual Xianxia or Wuxia characters do; coughing out blood for the first time.' Yamada jokingly thought amidst the strain he is feeling.

"Cancel that magic boy! You're going to die!" Flama cried out seeing his worsening condition.

"But I refuse!" Yamada menacingly said and a baleful atmosphere suddenly engulfed him, startling the shocked spectators.

"Eh?"

"One of the things, I love doing the most is saying "No" right to the faces of those who think they've got an absolute advantage!" Alongside a menacing pose, and his baleful atmosphere. The spectators quickly retreated back in fear by an unknown dangerous feeling that sprouted from their hearts.

"…"

"Yaaaay~!!!! Now that I am pumped up~ shall we take this up a notch~?" As if his dangerous presence before was a lie, he cheerfully snapped his fingers and the wall of shadows slowly tilted outward till it slammed to the ground, flattening whatever monsters it smashed through.

*Boom*

With the powerful squall the wall's shadow did, they finally saw what's the view on the other side. Countless monsters lining up, barely having a formation. Goblins, Ogres, Trolls, Orcs, Kobolds, and even more countless bipedal creatures stood menacingly and looked at them as if their preys.

Flying monsters flocked above the monstrosities. Harpies and Wyverns circled above them, some alive others already had turned into undead. While some of the corpses at the battlefield is being slowly engulfed by a sticky black energy and had roused up into an undead.

Seeing the countless monsters, Yamada quickly zoomed in his vision at the back and noticed the being that was flaring its aura like some sort of god. Clad in black menacing armor, it sat in a makeshift throne carried by monsters while it's weapon, a gigantic blade fit to its size rest on its back. But what Yamada particularly noticed is the huge gash in its armor that nearly reached where it's heart supposedly. It is currently being covered up by a wriggly black substance but Yamada noticed a stubborn holy energy in the gash, forcing it not to close in.

"Now this is f.u.c.k.e.d up…" Yamada jokingly said, seeing the massive hoard.

Snap!

"Then… let's give 'em everything we got right?" On cue, of his snap. The wall of shadow that had slammed in the ground wriggled ominously and slowly, black shadowy beings slowly rose up from the wall and madly cackled amidst the shock gazes of the crowd.
