Finding Andria

Chapter 8 - CHANGE

Charles stared at the girl with caramel skin, although she looks more disheveled than him she still looks as pretty as the first night he saw her.

Once he saw her with the urgently he quickly grabbed the girl and went inside the elevator without so much as an explanation to his employees, baffled they can only whisper among themselves.

His secretary wondered who the girl was when she saw both of them striding towards his office, holding some papers for her boss to see she quickly followed behind but to her dismay Charles slammed the door on her face.

Charles watched as Irife begun pacing around.

"Why are you late?" She demanded.

He didn't answer, not that he was surprised by the sound of her voice but because he still didn't believe his luck. He thought today was just any other day.

"You were supposed to be here like an hour before." She w.h.i.n.ed.

Charles stared at his wrist watch, he was pretty sure he was just a few minutes late from work.

"Never mind," Irife said in annoyance. "Well, are you not surprise to see me?"

Charles cleared his throat, he wasn't sure if his voice still works. "I am as surprised as everyone who saw me dragging you behind."

Irife waved his answer with her hand. "Right," she answered, "I am here because my old man wanted to warn you actually." She finally admitted.

"He already pretty much warned me a few times if you can remember." Charles said back sarcastically.

"No, I mean this is different." She said again.

"How is it different?" Charles asked.

Irife gripped her coat tighter to her. "My old man made some research about you and your family, you know, since that night."

The night Charles was supposedly passed out drank on the street, he thought to himself.

"He found out some things." She said, this time staring at Charles.

"You are the direct descendent of your ancestor, Charles. Your sister was not the one, which is why she was the only one who manifested signs of failure." She paused. "My old man thinks that both of you were exposed to the virus, but your manifestation was delayed. He is afraid that you might get yourself in more trouble, so he told me to warn you and give you the right to decide. This was the exact words he said to me. You stay as you are and wait for them to find you, or you may come with me and I hide you some where safe." Irife looked like she was about to grab Charles right then and there, regardless of his decision.

Charles looked like he was hit by something hard, his face registered shocked and disbelief.

What did he get himself into this time?

Feeling faint he slowly sat down and touched his forehead.

How can he be a demon?

He didn't feel any different, there were no signs, he couldn't even sort out his true feelings right at that moment.

He suddenly remembered his sister.

She died because she didn't truly change into a demon. The gruesome way she parted was something he will never forget. He avoided the same fate because destiny dictates that he will be instead?

He glared at irife, anger clearly written all over his face but she didn't budge on her feet. There were more pressing matters she handled for her old man than this situation with Charles, but she admits this was also a first for her. She hasn't had any human witnessed become a demon, but she didn't doubt her old mans information's. He was the best she knows, his connections runs deep and wide; it only took him less than a month to trace Charles family history, how? She didn't know but he has his ways.

"He told me not to pressure you of making a choice because either way you will become one of us; it's just that," Irife paused, "Personally though it is better for you to come with me. Those people if they find you a successfully changed demon, you will become them, and you will lose your free will."

"I just can't leave! What is the proof that I became a demon anyway? Look at me," Charles gestured to himself. "Do you think I've changed?"

No he didn't look like it. He looks half dead though. Irife thought.

"I want to find Andria because I thought she can lead me to them." But he didn't think that he himself will lead them back to him.

"Andria," Irife mumbled, "you might be able to see her," she looked at Charles. "She is looking for them because she wants to save people like you." This time Irife choose to sit down too.

"There this complicated things happening that my old man didn't tell you. Andria is different from us. She is actually a Reaper. Reapers are considered with higher authority amongst us demons. They control the balance of our world and yours. But in the recent fifty years, Reapers had dwindled." Irife voice became lower that Charles needed to strain so he could hear her clearly. "This is because the house of the Reapers was murdered by one of their very own family member. That someone is now the leader of the people you want to get your revenge with." Irife knew she shouldn't have casually told Charles this piece of history but because she was sure her old man's findings was true Charles will now be considered one of them.

"He murdered them in cold blood and now wanted to awaken new bloods for his own." Irife whispered again.

Charles suddenly felt terrified. At the back of his mind he knew Irife was telling the truth.
