Fire And Flame

Chapter 5 - Congratulations!

Laura dived into the swimming pool as instructed by her instructor. The instructor was like five feet and eight inches tall woman.

"Lily, the only thing you have accomplished in your life is the art of sinking." she nodded her head in disappointment.

"I'm trying okay?" Lily tried to step in the pool with her left leg half dipped to check the temperature of the water.

"It's cold! How can I swim huh?" she complained whereas Laura and Danny looked at her with both their left eyebrow raised.

Seeing that nothing can be done with Lily… Danny started pulling her into the pool.

"Wait! Stop!" Lily tried to pull back her leg.

"I'll sink and die, you murderer!" her eyes were almost on the verge of bursting into tears.

Both Laura and Danny laughed so hard at listening to this.

"How many times did I kill you in the past two years, Lily?" Danny spoke as she laughed.

"Many times! I do not have the count of it, Danny." Lily sat on the edge of the pool.

"Why do I have to learn how to swim? It's not that my city will get drowned in water. It's in the safe zone!" she tried to explain the need for not learning how to swim.

"Because you need to learn how to swim. You've been getting D grade in your swimming class for the past two years. " Laura calmly explained to her.

"Shut up, you nerd!" Lily was about to get up when she felt both her arms being pulled into the pool.

"Ahhhh!" she breathed before she drowned in the water.

"Do not breathe inside the water, Lily. Try to set loose your body, you'll start to float." Danny instructed.

Laura also sank into the water to show Lily how to rise up. She gestured her to lift her legs up and make her body straight. Seeing that Lily was still standing, she pushed her legs up and held her body and patted her back to make it straight. Danny caught hold of her leg and tried to make it parallel with the pool floor.

Finally, Lily started floating with Danny holding her legs and Laura's one hand lifting her stomach and the other trying to set her back straight. Lily raised her head up to breathe.

"What the hell are you both doing with me? I could've died!" she screamed.

"Nobody can die where you are floating. It's only four feet deep. And you're tall enough not to sink and drown and die." Danny felt like banging her head on to the pool railings. This girl was an epitome of stupidity.

Laura couldn't help but laugh at this.

"Now, let me down." Lily starting splashing water on to them.

"Okay," Danny looked at Laura and both took their hands off Lily.

"Ahhhhh!" Lily sank into the water.

"One, two, three… six" Danny fixed her eyes on Lily and kept on counting.

After a while, they both saw Lily floating perfectly, with her back straight.

"We should've done this before. At least she learned how to float after all this time." Danny became so emotional that she started wiping her tears which were not tears but splashed water.

"You're very funny, Danny." Laura laughed at the seeing Danny fake her cry.

Finally, Lily learned how to float after two years of training.

The training ended right after an hour. Both Laura and Lily, went to the dressing room and changed into a new set of clothes.

The swimming training center had two divisions; for boys and girls separately. The boys swimming pool was adjacent to girls separated by a wall. While coming out of the dressing room, Lily and Laura proceeded towards the exit when they saw a tall, muscular boy walking with them towards the exit gate. Lily was mesmerized by his handsomeness. He looked older than them by a few years. Laura, as usual, didn't pay attention to the boy walking beside her.

"Ahh!" Laura screamed in pain as Lily pinched her arm.

"What now!?"

"If you don't pay attention to people around you, you might end up missing the chance of noticing hot guys," Lily whispered. The whisper was loud enough for the boy to hear clearly.

"Who is the guy?" Laura was irritated and started rubbing her arm vigorously.

"To your left, dummy."

Laura saw the boy walking beside her. Both their eyes met for a few seconds. Laura broke the contact and started walking faster pulling Lily by her hand from behind.

"Lily, next time you pinch me, I'll punch your face." she threatened and started walking alone.

"Okay… I'm sorry. But, the guy was handsome! Admit it." Lily giggled and started walking faster to catch up with Laura's pace.

"Yes, he was. But, it was embarrassing as well. He must have heard how desperate you sounded."

"Who cares? I don't even know if we could meet him again or not." Lily was disappointed.

"Lily..." Laura sighed.

"I'm tired of teaching you how to float. Anyways, congratulations."

"Next time you taunt me this way, two pinches for you."

Both of them burst into laughter.
