Fire And Flame

Chapter 4 - Swimming

Laura was in her deep slumber when the alarm shook the house awake. Her eyes still closed, she tried to shut the alarm by banging it a few times. Rubbing the remainings of her sleep, she unlocked her phone. She was yawning but then suddenly stopped in between as she saw a message,

'Laura, please wake me up early in the morning tomorrow.

If I don't receive the call, come to my house and kick me awake.

BUT, DO NOT FORGET TO WAKE ME UP! :(

I NEED TO LEARN HOW TO SWIM!! T_T '

Laura sighed at the message.

"Silly girl," she mumbled as she got down her bed.

Slipping into a pair of pink slippers, she went to the bathroom to have a nice hot shower.

Coming out of the bathroom, she quickly checked the time.

"Seventeen more minutes," she spoke as she rushed to her wardrobe.

Slipping into the set of swimming suit, she tied her hair into a neat bun. She applied sunscreen all over her hands, legs and a little on her flawless face. Fixing her tights properly, she climbed down the stairs.

"Momma… I'm ready. I will return after five minutes, need to wake Lily up for swimming classes." Laura changed into another pair of slippers before moving out of the house.

"Okay, darling. I'll keep the breakfast ready. Her mother isn't well, ask her to join you for breakfast. And yes, tell Eli that I will make her some breakfast as well." Kiara shouted from the kitchen.

"Okay..." Laura shut the door and walked straight out of the gate.

She rang the doorbell three times and received no response. She waited for a minute patiently.

She was about to press the button again when the door suddenly opened.

"Oh, Laura darling! I'm so sorry… My head still hurts. Lily is still sleeping," Eli spoke, her eyes still half closed.

"Good morning, Aunty. It's okay. I received a text from Lily asking me to wake her up. And yes, you take a rest, mom has asked Lily to join me for breakfast. Mom has asked you to have breakfast with her as well," Laura obediently conveyed what her mother had asked to.

"Oh dear… I only have a slight headache. I'll be fine,"

"You take rest, Aunty. I shall now go wake Lily up. Only fifty-five minutes left," Laura smiled and carefully climbed up the stairs.

She carefully unlocked the door and saw Lily sleeping like a corpse. She was drooling… her head on the mattress and the pillow was hanging on the edge of the bed, supported by her left leg. Her wavy hair was a complete mess right now.

"Lily... Lily… wake up. It's already late, Lily. Wake up please." Laura walked near Lily and tried to shake her by her shoulder.

"Lily… Lily... " she went to push the curtains to one side to let the sun rays light the dark room.

"LILY! WAKE UP I SAID!" Laura screamed at the top of her voice.

"AHH! What happened?" Lily suddenly sat on her bed like a robot and had no clue what was going on.

"We are getting late! Go get ready right now." Laura pointed her finger towards the bathroom.

"Oh no! Late again. What time is it now?"

"Five-fifty, now go get ready." Laura tried lifting Lily up from the bed.

"How can I get ready within ten minutes, Laura?" Lily freaked out as she rushed towards her cupboard to find her swimming suit.

"You can do it. And yes, your dress is on the left," Laura couldn't help but giggle at her.

Lily quickly rushed into the bathroom and took a quick shower. Coming out of it after five minutes, she rushed to comb her hair into a bun.

"What time is it now?" she asked Laura who was calmly reading a comic.

"Um… five-twenty seven." Laura looked at her phone.

All of a sudden, the whole room went silent.

"How can I forget that Ms. Laura Williams can never be late! You lied to me!" Lily threatened Laura with her wide tooth comb.

"What? If I had told you the correct time, you would've never gotten up at the first place." Laura shrugged.

"Urgh! My precious sleep..." Lily had always been melodramatic.

"Get ready fast. We'll have breakfast together." Laura carefully placed the book on the table.

"Let's go!" Lily took her bag along rushed down the stairs.

"Careful, Lily!" Laura shouted from behind.

Both of them had their breakfast together and headed towards the garage where the driver was waiting inside the car. Soon, they left for the swimming class.

"Laura, can I do this?" Lily asked in a serious tone.

"Yes, why not? It's been two years and you're still learning how to not breathe inside the water. You can definitely do this." Laura looked outside the windows as she spoke. The next moment, she felt a sharp pain in her arm.

"Ouch!" Lily had hit Laura on her arm.

"What did I do?" Laura spoke rubbing her arm vigorously.

"What did you do? That was sarcastic! Motivate me you dummy." Lily pouted.

"Well, we'll see how much you can learn today. Everything's gonna be alright. " Laura spoke in a calm voice, still rubbing her arm.

"Does it hurt?" Lily started rubbing her arm as well.

"Of course it does!"

"Whatever… hmph!" Lily stopped rubbing and turned her back to Laura.

Laura laughed at seeing how adorable her best friend was.

Soon, they reached their destination.
