Forgotten One

Chapter 13 - Crafting a Weapon

Lei Shu began running out into the open, he was filled with newfound strength and he was even more confident.

He was kicking dust up into the air behind him when he abruptly stopped.

"Oh f.u.c.k, I don't have a weapon to use."

He looked around and saw no beasts in sight, only eerie darkness. He thought for a moment before he turned around and started running back towards the mountain peak. He slowly took his time and climbed it once more, this time much faster. He jumped from point to point and climbed using the rocks on the side of the mountain.

He used the caved-in portion to hold onto, the one he made when he jumped before his feast. He climbed with incredible speed while Billa waited for him at the bottom of the mountain.

Finally, Lei Shu launched himself into the air and dashingly landed on the mountain peak.

There were a few scattered bones around, but they came from the sheep and they weren't too sturdy, the beast itself wasn't even that strong. He thought about carving the stone table into a dagger, but he discarded that choice right away. The stone isn't resilient enough to actually use in battle, it would probably shatter upon contact or at least become damaged.

The food was no longer enticing, the only thing on his mind was finding an appropriate weapon, at least until he left the canyon and could get a real weapon.

He sat at the table to think it over properly when his eyes darted towards the ground near the now flameless pit Mo Fen was using to cook. The surrounding ground was a bit charred and everything was a bit burned. The only thing left was a bit of rock left at the absolute bottom of the pit and a black item near them.

Lei Shu raised the item into the air and a huge grin appeared on his face.

"I truly am blessed. Maybe someone is watching over me."

The item Lei Shu was grasping in his hand was the horn of the rank 2 spiritual beast sheep. It was pitch black; it was perfectly concealable in the darkness. The horn itself has grooves all along it, the grooves removed friction while flying through the air. Without the friction, it would be much faster and as Lei Shu swung it around, he noticed something else.

"Oh, so the grooves not only act as a speed buff, but they also completely remove the sound of the dagger slicing through the air. This item is extremely stealthy, I almost feel like I'm an assassin type character like in the RPGs back on Earth. Maybe I'll even make the dagger my special weapon of choice, it's not like you need something big and strong to kill weaklings. My blade needs only to be resilient; the strength will come from me."

He took the horn over to the pit and placed it onto the floor beside the rocks, he turned around and scanned his surroundings. The thing he needed most right now was something to make a hilt out of, he scavenged the bones and could barely find enough for the hilt. He took the horn and touched the point; a drop of blood immediately fell from his finger.

This weapon was very sharp, it could cut cleanly through rank 1 spiritual beasts and puncture them with ease if enough strength was behind it. He used the point of the hilt to carve the bones into a hilt shape, he copied the pattern on the horn to increase the speed and noise suppression. He went over to the rock and sparked them until a fire was created.

Although it was a small fire it would make do. Lei Shu took the hilt and set it over the fire, only the top portion being exposed to the fire. He exposed the bottom portion of the horn to the fire as well and left them there.

"I see some burn marks forming on the hilt and horn, but it will take forever to melt them and connect them to make the finalized weapon."

But there was nothing he could do; patience really was a virtue. Lei Shu waited at the top of the mountain for 4 full days. He was fast asleep and by the time he woke up, Billa was already on top of the mountain, sleeping peacefully beside him.

He wiped the gunk out of both of their eyes and got up to check on the fire. His product was basically finished, he took both of the ends and conjoined them. They were practically fused; he took his time sculpting it into a seamless shape. The item looked as though it was manufactured together, it never looked as though it was a part. He ran down the mountain and grabbed a ton of plants, he mushed them into a cold liquid and masterfully cooled the dagger until it hardened. A bit of poison actually seeped into the horns of the dagger and it gave off a slight hazy purple gas.

"Holy f.u.c.k.i.n.g shit! I actually got a poison-based weapon; however, the poison isn't too strong because I don't know the proper method to blend two different powers. It still has some effect, but I'll have to drag out the battle to see the effects fully take place."

With one flick all of the liquid was flung off the dagger, he raised it up to examine every crevice, after he was satisfied with his creation, he hid the dagger within his robes and began to descend the mountain.

The poison was only activated if someone or something was stabbed or slashed, so he didn't have to worry about that. The only thing he would have to worry about was him falling on it and stabbing himself. What he needed now was something to sheathe the dagger.

Lei Shu began to walk when he caught the stench of some odor nearby. When he looked for Billa he noticed that he was walking beside him, but much farther than usual. Billa licked himself clean if he ever got too dirty, kind of like a cat from Earth.

"I smell like complete a.s.s, I guess it's because I haven't showered since I got here."

He thought over it a bit and remembered that Mo Fen would always go in the same direction when he left, and he would always come back from the same direction as well. Mo Fen certainly didn't smell awful and he said he hasn't left the canyon in a long time so obviously there is water somewhere.

Billa could understand what he was thinking about and starting to walk Northeast with his nose to the ground smelling his surroundings. He could identify a bit of humidity and he chose to follow that trail.

After about 10 minutes of walking, Lei Shu could finally see a small pond in sight. The water was surprisingly clear and the floating petals on the surface of the pond emitted cleansing properties. He ran up and inspected the water, he dived straight in and instantly felt cleaner. The dirt was basically being pulled away from his body and a flowery fragrance was all that remained. He thought about bottling some of the water and keeping it for himself, but he would require a bottle in the first place. He left that idea for later, maybe he could ask Mo Fen for a bottle or come back later if he needed it.

He was fluttering his feet to the edge of the pond to get out and continue his journey when a dark shadow appeared beneath him. Lei Shu was instantly pulled beneath the water with the creature and every few seconds he would struggle up to the top. Billa was shocked but he wasn't too effective in the water so there wasn't much he could do. He tried to grab onto Lei Shu's robes with his teeth and pull him to the surface but with that beast and all the water weighing him down, he couldn't manage to help. Billa began crying out for help, hopefully, senior Mo Fen would get here in time.

"Goddamnit…. What the…. Hell…. Is that….. under the…. F.u.c.k.i.n.g pond!"

He took his dagger and slashed beneath him but all he cut through was water. His movement speed had decreased greatly because he was underwater, he had never fought in this environment before. However, the beast dragging him was very agile, very accustomed to this environment."

Lei Shu was dragged beneath once more and chose to kick his foot out, he hit the body of the beast, but the water took the brunt of the damage away.

The beast shook it off and continued its rampage.

It was only then Lei Shu caught sight of the beast. It was the size of a car and it was covered in scales. The scales on its body were a mixture of baby blue and lilac. It looked quite beautiful, but the opposite could be said about its face. Its scales acted as armour and its teeth were serrated, they would easily tear through Lei Shu if it caught hold of his body. Bits of his robes littered the pond, but no blood was spilled. The beast had smooth fins, and these increased its mobility in water, its tail was also quite long and scaly. If a normal person was hit by that he would have his blood splatter everywhere, nothing would be left of his body.

Lei Shu had already thought of a plan after he analyzed the beast. He purposely slowed his fastest speed in order to narrowly escape each encounter. Stealthily he planted the dagger into the side of the inner pond while he was escaping before. He buried the hilt into the soil rock in the side of the pond and kept approaching it bit by bit. Before he reached it, every time, without fail he would escape. This time he was also going towards it and the beast was following behind, he was slowly increasing his speed at the same time.

The beast grew excited seeing its prey show a last shot of desperation, the beast increased its own speed and chased after him. With a burst of strength, when he was right in front of the dagger, he soared up with all his might. The beast noticed this and tried to maneuver to catch him in its jaws, the beast missed, and Lei Shu cackled.

"Ha ha ha, RIIIIIIP"

The dagger was incredibly sharp, and it almost cut through the entire right fin of the beast, blood was soaking the pond and the beast's mobility decreased heavily. It was slowly lowering to the bottom of the pond, it lost its stability and looked like a fish out of water. In a last-ditch effort, it swung out its spiked tail and managed to thrash Lei Shu in the back.

Lei Shu shot up straight out of the pond and fell onto the cold hard ground. He was alarmed, his eyes were wide open. He was actually almost paralyzed from that attack, it hit directly onto his spinal cord. He laid there for a few minutes before slowly rising to his feet, gripping his back the entire time.

After he recuperated, he went over and lifted a large boulder. He carried it over to the pond and dropped it directly into it.

"PLOP"

Water splashed about but it finally, silently, sack down into the pond.

Lei Shu dusted his hands off, quite satisfied with his work. He looked into the pond and jumped directly back in. Was he insane? Maybe a madman? No one would know but himself.

He was swimming towards the bottom, and he saw a large figure, unable to move. The boulder Lei Shu had dropped into the pond had landed on top of the sliced fin of the injured beast.

The fin was practically cut clean through, so the beast didn't have the strength in it to lift the boulder. It waited there pathetically; the poison was eating away at its power. All the previous shine in its scales were nowhere to be seen.
