Forgotten One

Chapter 14 - Emotionless

When Lei Shu reached the bottom of the pond, he looked at the beast stuck under the boulder. It was truly pitiful, Lei Shu felt bad in his heart, but it was necessary. It was his life or the beasts and Lei Shu would obviously choose the former. Even if Lei Shu chose not to kill the beast, it would be killed by others.

Without one of its fins, it would be incredibly off-balance all the time, if it learned how to swim again, it would look like it was stumbling all over the place. Lei Shu looked into its eyes and saw that they were incredibly calm. It knew its fate and it didn't regret its decision of attacking Lei Shu, regret would mean nothing now. To regret would only make the beast feel helpless, that feeling was pointless in this scenario.

Lei Shu rubbed the beasts back and it purred quietly, it was ready to go. Lei Shu picked his dagger from the fin and drove it into the beasts back. Inch by inch until it finally reached its heart, the life fading from its eyes. Even though fighting was exciting for Lei Shu, it wasn't always that way.

He looked up from the pit of the pond to the surface, "Life really is a fragile thing, hopefully death is sturdy and strong. May this beast rest, never having to constantly fight just to remain alive, maybe death is a gift."

He thanked the beast for the benefits it gave him and was going to give him in the future.

The body was now lifeless, so Lei Shu slowly lifted it to the surface. A fin flopped onto the surface and Billa went to wrap its jaws around it. With Lei Shu and Billa both using their strength the beast was easily brought to the surface. Lei Shu went to gather rocks and plants to start a small fire.

Once the fire was lit it was extremely small. The flame looked small and fragile like it could be blown out at any second. Lei Shu took his time burning the beast's corpse, turning it every now and then. Every now and then he would tear off a piece and throw it towards Billa and he would devour it before it hit the ground, in one gulp it was gone. The beast was flavourful to say the least, an aquatic beast was much squishier and saltier. It was different and if that was any other time Lei Shu would be delighted.

However, the only thing on his face was complacency. His eyes were somber and there was no smile or frown in sight. The scene was extremely dull, and it continued this way until the entire corpse was finished. Lei Shu didn't want to waste anything from this beast. The scales on the beast were taken and placed within his robes in various places. It would add to his defenses and may even save him from a fatal blow.

Lei Shu got up and dusted himself off after what seemed like forever.

"Billa lets go, our journey is waiting."

With those few words, he had already begun walking, disappearing into the darkness.

A rank 1 mid-stage beast was defeated just like that and Lei Shu didn't bat an eye. Lei Shu called it a Scaled Pond Drake. A weird name but a name, nonetheless.

The next beast to cross his path was a late-stage rank 1 spiritual demonic wolf. It looked amazingly pristine, its eyes shining with confidence. Its body was covered in scars, proving it passed various trials to gain its current strength. If you looked closely, you'd see that the energy around its body was jumping every now and then. This was a sign that it was on the verge of breaking out of its shell and becoming a fully-fledged rank 2 spiritual beast. It huffed air out of its noise and taunted Lei Shu and Billa. The wolf's white hair was died a bit red and its blue fur was untouched. This beast had easily killed its last opponent.

Lei Shu didn't care, he didn't care at all. He had no emotion at the moment, only complacency. He was a walking disaster to those weaker than him. Lei Shu didn't even care about the wolf at all.

Lei Shu changed directions and began to walk in a different direction. He wasn't in the mood to fight; he wanted to walk around and take his time and think. After all his mind was always his most powerful weapon.

Billa followed right behind him and didn't even give that wolf a second look.

The wolf felt as if it was an insignificant ant, his opponents didn't even care about him at all, no fear, no emotion. He was infuriated as he felt humiliated, in his pack he was the alpha and no one dared to look down on him.

Right when Lei Shu turned his body to leave the wolf took the opportunity to pounce. Never show your back to a beast, always hold your ground or it will take it as a weakness. Lei Shu heard him jump off of the ground and he could feel the wind change behind him.

He wasn't in the mood and this really pissed him off. He turned around and stared at the beast menacingly, his eyes as black an endless pit of despair.

The wolf didn't expect Lei Shu who he thought was a weakling, to turn and face him in battle. It was too late; the wolf was already in the air. Lei Shu stared straight into the wolf's eyes and this is when the wolf began to sense the feeling of… death. Fear was dancing wildly in its eyes and it tried to stop its body as well as it could before…

"THUD"

Lei Shu threw out one punch. He used his legs and turned his waist; he threw a left hook at the beast.

"CRACK CRACK CRACK"

A few of its ribs instantaneously broke upon impact and it whimpered as it was sent flying into the distance. When it landed it tried to lift itself from the ground but Billa flashed its blackbody over before it landed. He caught the beast by the leg and used its immense speed to run as fast as it could, smashing the wolf into multiple boulders along the way.

The wolf looked pitiful, its body was battered, bruised and covered in blood. None of its scarred amounted to the pain it was feeling now. The physical pain was bad, but the emotional pain was ten times worse. He never felt true despair before, he had never provoked opponents this powerful before.

His eyes were begging for it to stop but Lei Shu did not give a single f.u.c.k.

"Billa, run until you can't run anymore. When you get tired it's okay to take a break, just remember that you need energy to keep running so remember to refuel."

Billa knew the exact meaning behind his words. Finally, when Billa began slowing down the wolf saw this as an opportunity, its eyes flashed with opportunity. Billa began panting and the wolf tried to bite a chunk out of Billa's neck. Right before its jaws neared Billa…

"CRACK CRACK CRACK"

Lei Shu, like a phantom, was hovering over the wolf. He stomped onto its face and broke its jaw, teeth flying everywhere in the process. He then continuously stomped its body until he was satisfied. He broke its legs and now it just laid there unable to move any part of its body, waiting for death. Lei Shu tore its legs off one by one, all four of them until it was completely amputated.

"RIIIIIIIP"

He tore them off viciously and threw them directly into his mouth, staring straight into the wolf's eyes while he devoured him. This was a lesson, one that the wolf would never forget. DO NOT PROVOKE THOSE WHO DO NOTHING TO BOTHER YOU.

The wolf's whimpers were mixed in with various cries for help and grunting from the pain. Lei Shu turned its back towards him but this time the wolf never even thought of making a move against him. He didn't want to get closer to that monster, but something was lifting him closer to Lei Shu, the wolf looked back and was frightened.

Two golden eyes were staring directly into its soul. Billa lifted the wolf off the ground with its jaws clenched around its stomach. Billa began running once again and every now and then he would throw the wolf up into the air, catching it back in its jaws before the body hit the ground. Billa was having a GREAT time right now and wished it wouldn't end.

The scary thing was that the wolf was alive this entire time, wishing he was dead instead.

After countless rounds of this Billa threw him one last time into the air and jumped after the body. The wolf saw Billa approaching but didn't make any move to retaliate. It closed its eyes and waited, waited for it all to end. Billa sprung into the air and ripped the wolf head clean off its neck, its lifeless body smashing into the ground.

Lei Shu went to the tallest and pointiest boulder near him, he took the wolf's head and stuck it to the point on top of the boulder. He admired his work, this was a sign to all others, not to f.u.c.k with Lei Shu or Billa.

Billa was now happily eating the corpse of the beast and every now and then Lei Shu would take a chunk out of the beast and eat it as well.

When they finished eating, they began moving once more. No beasts approached from behind them, they were all filled with fear as soon as they saw that wolf head on the boulder, blood dying the boulder it was placed on.

On his travels, through the canyon, Lei Shu had met with other beasts that provoked him. They were easily disposed of as they were mostly early-stage rank 1 spiritual beast. When he first came to the canyon he wouldn't dare walk around as loftily as he was doing now but he wasn't the same man as he was back then.

Lei Shu wasn't the same man as he was yesterday, he never stagnated. Always changing and hopefully in the process, improving. He kept walking until he approached an area where the degree of darkness had increased a bit more.

There was a nest and 3 giant eggs were placed inside. They were very rough, and they had a diamond-shaped pattern running along the shell. The shells were dyed a tinge of light yellow and smelled foul like urine. Lei Shu was shocked, these were rank 2 spiritual beast eggs.

He was tempted to get the eggs and devour them or try to raise them. He was debating what he should do when he heard a sound that shook him to his core.

"ROAAAAAAAAAR"

In the distance, Lei Shu spotted a giant rank 2 spiritual beast Jade Tiled Anaconda fleeing slithering at an astonishing speed. Its body squirmed left and right as it evaded various attacks. A rank 2 spiritual beast Silver Coat Gorilla was smashing down its fists onto the ground while trying to smash the Jade Tiled Anaconda to a pulp. The Anaconda has just given birth to these eggs, so it was incredibly weak, the Gorilla took this chance and revealed itself. Hoping to get a giant harvest, killing the Anaconda and devouring it for himself and bringing back the eggs for his children.

The eggs shook a little, they were close to hatching. The Anaconda noticed this and stared daggers at Lei Shu, after an unspeakable amount of time it looked as if it nodded its head and slithered in the complete opposite direction.

Lei Shu was shocked, instead of going straight to its children it chose to flee. It even nodded its head towards him.

Lei Shu was quite confused, "Does it want me to protect its children while it goes to deal with the Silver Coat Gorilla on its own?"
