Forgotten One

Chapter 5 - Progression

"DUM DUM DUM"

Lei Shu heard another set of hooves stomping on the ground. As Lei Shu looked upon the beast he could immediately tell that it was quite a bit stronger than the serpent. Serpents were usually deadly because of their mobility and poison. The only issue was that the common serpent didn't have any poison. Only when it became a rank 1 spiritual beast would it form a poison chamber. Although this beast was more formidable, Lei Shu still chose to approach it, but not without making any preparations.

"Click Clack Click Clack"

Lei Shu began to approach the horse from behind. When he was about 10 feet way from the horse, he raised his dagger and began to speed up. There was still blood dripping down the hilt of the dagger from Lei Shu's previous kill.

But as soon as Lei Shu raised his dagger and began running, a drop of blood fell from the dagger onto the ground, "Splat."

"Oh f.u.c.k" Lei Shu instantly began acting frantically. The common horse wasn't as intelligent as a human, but they did have some intellect. It noticed Lei Shu panic and took the opportunity to charge at him. The horse began to lower its head in order to charge and ram itself into Lei Shu, hopefully breaking a few of his bones in the process.

Alas, as the horse was lowering its head it took one more peak at Lei Shu in order to see his direction, but the only thing the horse could see was a smidge of red blocking Lei Shu's body. The horse didn't know what it was, but the smidge kept getting closer and closer until finally "PLOP" the smidge flew right into the horses' eye.

"I'm sorry for not playing fair but this is a dog eat dog world. If I had the strength I wouldn't use any of these methods but I must ensure my survival at least until this trial is over. I hope you understand."

Lei Shu's means were truly despicable. During the moment the horse opened its eyes to find Lei Shu's location he pretended to be panicked. When he saw the horse open its eyes, he snapped the dagger towards it, letting the blood on the dagger fly out, straight into the eyes of the horse blocking its vision.

"NAYYYYYYY" The horse raised itself into the air while standing on its back 2 hooves, it kicked out frantically with its front legs trying to keep itself alive until it could see. Lei Shu had already estimated the horses next course of action, he ran directly around it and made 2 slashes along the its back legs "SWOOSH SWOOSH."

The horse fell immediately to the floor. It looked quite pitiful, just like a brown horse back on Earth, appearance wise they were basically identical.

These horses relied more on their speed, Lei Shu used the blood to counteract its vision and his 2 slashes greatly damaged its mobility. In other words, Lei Shu would gauge his enemies' weaknesses and act upon those, each battle would be different and each approach different as well. Lei Shu stood above its whimpering body, "When it comes to life and death, anything goes and anything is allowed. As I can smell the blood under your hooves you have also killed others for yourself. For food you have massacred those beneath you in strength, I am just doing the same. I will feel no regret, everything in this world is neither inherently good nor evil, only thinking makes it so. Today I was the stronger man, thank you for the meal." As he said his final words, he began carrying the body off into the distance. It was deathly silent the only movement that could be sensed in the surrounding was an old man akin to a statue. It looked as if he was a statue but if you focused solely on his body, you would see it was trembling. This old man was none other than Mo Fen, he told Lei Shu that he would leave but he just said that because Lei Shu wouldn't be able to sense him with his current strength.

Mo Fen planned to stay in the distance to make sure nothing went wrong with the trial. Like a random cultivator showing up, or any rogue spiritual beasts that made their way into the outer reaches of the cave. While listening to Mo Fen speak over the horse it seemed like he had a flashback, reminding him of another figure he could only sit there and wonder.

Lei Shu still had a good amount of strength and stamina left but he was utterly starved. It was the fourth day of the trial and he could barely be seen as the front of the entrance of the cave. A hazy purple smoke was covering his body, and no one could clearly see the figure. There were 4 hazy shadows on the ground surrounding the man in the haze. They were all corpses, 3 corpses belonged to serpents and the other corpse was many times larger than the serpents, it was the corpse of the horse. The corpse wasn't fully intact, Lei Shu had been eating his full as he slowly took his time.

The haze came from his poison chamber. As soon as Lei Shu got back to the cave, he dropped the corpses and also his poison chamber. He placed it in front of him and took his spatial ring off and placed it on top of the poison chamber. With the small weight of the spatial ring, the poison could slowly be pushed out of the chamber at a steady speed, creating a haze hiding him from the outer world.

If any beasts would dare approach him, they would die from the poison or would run the moment they sensed it. He was perfectly protected and could eat with leisure. He began by removing the head he severed form the horses' body. Although he was sent to a different world he wouldn't adapt to their customs. He would do whatever he believed to be suitable if it didn't impact him too heavily. Lei Shu removed the genitalia, head and various other parts from the horse. If he was on Earth, he wouldn't eat the eyes or genitalia, he found that disgusting and the taste was also not to his liking.

He discarded these pieces and focused on devouring the rest of the corpses. It took him 2 days to finish eating to his hearts' content. He was now brimming with strength and energy; he should be full for around a week at least.

Before leaving to go hunt, he turned and got all the edible pieces he discarded and put them into his spatial ring. Now he would have 2 uses left for his spatial ring, he already used 3. One of them on the poison chamber, one on the dagger and one for the food. He only had 2 uses left until the ring would crumble completely.

"The trial at this point is only a matter of time for me. I should take it steady and gauge my strength." Even at this point Lei Shu was thinking about training and testing his limits. He had a firm belief that if you become more acquainted with the extremes, you'll have greater control overall. Like when you're driving a car. If you're comfortable and knowledgeable about how the minimum and maximum speeds function and perform, then your total performance will increase. You'll be more at ease and in control, everything will be kept within a thought.

First Lei Shu went towards the nest of the boars. He saw 4 of them leaving their group but what he saw next was brutal. These 4 boars were minding their business when they stumbled across a young spiritual beast. It was the demonic wolf; it was injured as well because it had recently had a fierce battle. The wolf was giving off very faint spiritual fluctuations, hinting that it was on its last legs.

Lei Shu watched in the distance as the heads of all 4 boars turned to look at the injured wolf. Normally, if the 4 boars saw a spiritual beast they would run or ignore it. However, now they saw it as potential prey, this was because this wolf was oddly, entirely black with glowing golden eyes. Boars were the peak existence among the common beasts. They roamed in packs and have enormous strength, stamina and killing potential. They didn't recognize the wolf as a spiritual beast and just thought it was another common wounded beast. Boars also loved confrontation, if they found a beast that they thought was common, they would instantly attack because they were the apex predator.

The 4 boars slowly surrounded the demonic wolf and they made a circle around him while eyeing their prey. They made sure not to leave him any room to escape. The 2 boars from behind were the first to make their move. The boars dashed towards the back of the wolf, planning to land a decisive strike. The wolf was injured but it did have a higher intelligence, it was on guard and made a swiping motion with its tail. Its tail looked fluffy but within, was a boulder of muscle. It smashed the faces of both boars, immediately breaking several bones. The boars had been injured but they were nowhere near death. While all the board were taken by surprise by the wolfs' strength, the wolf dashed out, its body immediately flashed and the next second its fangs were sinking into the neck of one of the boars.

2 of the boars ran away, knowing that they were no match for this animal. They finally knew they had provoked a spiritual beast, but the odd thing was that 1 of them stayed. The biggest and brawniest boar that Lei Shu had ever seen appeared in his vision. The muscles on this boar were almost bulging out of its thick skin, and its eyes were bloodshot red. Only then did Lei Shu notice something.

"Could they be a pair?"

The huge boar was fine until the first boar had died. The boar that died was coincidentally a female and his body obviously indicated he was a male. The boar was preparing to charge at the wolf, the wolf was obviously on its last legs, but it prepared to go all out. The boar began charging towards the wolf, leaving nothing behind. The wolf also braced itself, a darkness profound energy swirling around its body. Just as the boar was about to smash headfirst into the wolf, the wolfs eyes glowed with a heavenly light. Its body possessed an unimaginable speed.

"BOOM CL.A.P"

It sounded like a thunderclap; Lei Shu didn't even see what happened but when he did he noticed the 2 beasts had switched places. Now the wolf was closer to Lei Shu and the boar further away.

When Lei Shu took a closer look, he noticed that the wolf hadn't sustained heavy injuries by the boars' attack and this heavily shocked Lei Shu. The wolf was no panting on the ground, it depleted all its remaining energy in that attack and would pass out at any given moment. Right before the wolf closed its eyes one last time, it looked piercingly at Lei Shu.

It looked straight at him, there was no mistake. Even though he was hidden, he couldn't hide from the senses of this wolf. After an eye piercing glare that seemingly lasted forever, the wolf slowly closed its eyes, accepting whatever came next and living with no regrets. This deeply resonated with Lei Shu and shook him to his core. Back on Earth he had a dog himself and he loved her dearly, there wouldn't be a day that he would go without seeing her and calling her beautiful and the goodest girl in the world. He caught a glimpse of his old companion in his mind and chose to begin moving.
