Chapter 13 - To Deceive and Receive

The day had arrived. They were to meet up with the covenant. Jun was flying the pelican to the meetup.

"So how are we playing this?" asked Six.

"Well, we know that there will be some kind of trap. So I propose we negotiate with the covenant a day grace period under the guise of setting up traps," stated Carter.

"And while we're there we will investigate the facility, find the training section, search for a forerunner ship, find this software that could upgrade the system and revive Jorge?" finished Kat.

"That's about it, if we can't find a ship there then we'll have to escape via pelican. We'll meet back with Buckie's civilians pick them up and head home. Of course, all while avoiding the covenant." answered Carter. He then continued "I'll also lead the negotiations with them, don't speak or act erratically. We need to buy time."

The pelican's engine hummed to a stop. They had landed right in front of a group of phantoms. The same Elite General was standing upright in the middle of open ground. He had a smirk that screamed victory. He was about to deal with two birds at once. Carter lead Kat and Six to the middle while Jun remained in the pelican for a quick escape. They approached the Elite with steady but strong steps.

"You're ready to go? I'm excited to get rid of this problem." the Elite General said.

"Not quite yet. We need two days to set up traps and various defenses if this Elite is as bad as you say it is." Carter explained.

The Elite shook his head back and forth indicating a no.

"You can't take two days. The higher-ups want this Elite gone as soon as possible. Traps won't affect him anyways since he can "teleport" short distances, " the General stated.

"All the more we need time to prepare. If you can't give us two days then give us a day then. We'll be able to kill him. Otherwise, you're likely to die. We may die killing you here but we'll at least take you down." finished Carter.

The Elite stood there and contemplated. Elites were a race of proud warriors. He could understand these "demons" making a final stand right here and now. The higher-ups didn't really care what he was doing on Reach. They would probably give Reach to the elites now that the humans are gone from here. So there wasn't a deadline but the "demons" didn't need to know that. So rather than having a pointless death, he conceded.

"Alright, I can give you one day. That's all I can afford though. Follow that phantom over there in your pelican. It'll take you to the forerunner site. The body will be at the gate." conceded the General while pointing at a phantom that was facing north.

"Good to know we're on the same page. Noble team move out," commanded Carter.

The forerunner facility had a traditional spire-like opening, however, it was melded into a mountain. There were landing pads created by the UNSC located near the gate. From the landing pad, they would walk towards the gate and climb a bit of stair and arrive at the gate. Lying right in front of the gate was a mal-formed suit of Spartan armor that contained Jorge's body.

"We'll bury him soon. We need to focus on understanding the layout of this place so we can fight efficiently. We no longer need your guidance." stated Carter to the team of Elites that escorted them in hopes of getting rid of them.

"Fine, but we'll be watching from the sky. You uphold your part of the deal and we'll do ours." Stated the Captain of the team who then turned around with his team and got into their banshees.

Emile and Six walked forward and picked up Jorge's body. Noble team walked inside to be greeted by a magnificent building filled with AI monitors floating back and forth performing duties with the lights glittering over their robotic bodies. One floated on over and looked straight at Six. His lights went from Blue to an Emerald green color.

[Notificaiton: Host is receiving a telepathic request to communicate with you. Do you accept the connection?]

Noble team noticed this changed color and looked over to a dazed Six.

"Six, wants going on?" asked Carter whose visor somehow displayed worry.

"I'm getting a telepathic communication with this floating robot. The system is giving me the chance to deny it," answered Six.

"Accept it, we should be able to access the facility better if these robots want you for some reason." Kat quickly stated.

'Accept' thought Six.

[Confirmed: Host is receiving connection]

'Welcome System Host! This place was conceived by the first Forerunner to have a system. He predicted other system users would come but asked us to serve only a Reclaimer that would have a system. You fit that category. Tell us what you need.'

'I need to know quite a few things actually. First, where is the training facility? Do you have a map? Second is there a spaceship here? and Finally please treat all my companions just like you treat me.' Thought Six.

'Everything you've asked for can be achieved. Follow me.'

Extra Note: I would put this in the Author's note but there's a limit to those things. Anyways next chapter which I will release on Thursday (It has not been written yet.) will have action and a sort of conclusion to the first Arc of this fanfiction. I've got two routes to go in my brain for the next arcs. One route could be a crossover with some more star wars stuff and the other would dive a further into the halo universe. Either way is fine. Heck, I could do both. I'm aiming for a much longer chapter Thursday because of the conclusion having to answer multiple things and ideas in my brain. If you want to put your input on what I should do with the routes let me know by Saturday by either comments or emailing me at [email protected]
