Harry Potter And The Dual Lord

Chapter 30 - Consequences

"Ancient magic is the most powerful of all. There nothing that equals it. Nothing. Even a peak rank 2 wizard wouldn't be able to destroy the Ancient magic launched by a regular 1st rank wizard."

Arthur looked at his master, Merlin, and asked "But what is Ancient magic? Do you know Ancient spells?"

Merlin smiled and said "You can't launch Ancient magic by willing it. It is a magic that comes from your emotions, from love or sadness most of the time. But never anger. Maybe wizards who have reached the 3rd rank can launch it at will, maybe not."

Arthur smiled as he remembered one of the first lessons he had with Merlin. He had learned back then that the magic placed on Harry was Ancient magic.

The immense love of his mother was showed by her willing sacrifice, and this triggered the magic of the world to form a protection against Voldemort.

Arthur had tried a few times triggering this magic, but it was impossible.

A day had passed since Arthur's first flying lesson, and he woke up as usual. Almost. When he looked at the time, he was alarmed to see it was 7.55.

It means he only has five minutes before class. Moreover it is Transfiguration, and McGonagall doesn't like seeing students late, it usually ends up with punishments, even when its Gryffindors of course. This woman's really fair.

Arthur looked at the bed next to him intending to wake Peter up, but he realized it was empty. Had Peter really gone to class without waking him up?

Arthur put on his robes quickly, brushed his teeth and looked how long he still had.

One minute. It's short. Black smoke got out of his shadow and enveloped him before disappearing. Well, it slipped through the cracks and everywhere it could get in rather than disappearing.

Thirty seconds later, all the Slytherins were in the class, with McGonagall sitting on her desk, waiting for the clock to point 8 and begin her class. She was curious as to why the students were looking so happy, but she didn't ask and patiently waited.

The Slytherins, indeed, were all looking at the door with excitement. After yesterday's challenge, Arthur would eat the dust if he arrived late in class.

But as everyone looked at the door, smoke came out from the ceiling, which only McGonagall felt, and fell down from the sky.

It was indeed Arthur. He looked around and frowned when he saw Peter was sitting next to someone. The only sit available was next to… no one. Karol was sitting next to a pureblood boy named Theo, and Elena was surprisingly sitting next to Malfoy.

Arthur appeared at the table in front of the class with no one sitting there, and materialized into his human form again. Looking at how much everyone, including his 'friends' d.e.s.i.r.ed to see him arrive late and get scolded by an a.d.u.l.t.

He knew that they were still kids and as a reincarnator he shouldn't mind as children tend to change their minds quickly, but it still hurt. Arthur may have been an a.d.u.l.t before, those years of pain made him grow up in solitude, and finding friends had lit up a flame in his heart he didn't know existed.

So seeing them wishing him harm because he thought of the larger picture and didn't show favoritism yesterday by including them in his punishment and show…

Arthur thought he was cool and awe inspiring yesterday when he transformed into a 20 meters tall shadow humanoid, but he had apparently overdone it.

Of course his objectives were met, and the unexpected effect was to cease the rivalry between Gryffindor and Slytherin among. My enemy's enemy is my ally.

But even thought he accomplished what he wanted, he reaped more than he sought. They didn't start looking at him in respect, but in absolute fear. Before they felt that although he was bad and powerful, he still wasn't at the level of an absolute evil lord.

Even his friends thought that he was quite good if not or his strange personality, as for the others they were alright. But that giant shadow monster destroyed the last bit of humanity they could see in Arthur.

The thing is, despite his warnings about them not controlling their magic, he didn't control it himself. He unwillingly added a 'fear' effect in his spell, so everyone who looked at his giant would feel weak and feel fear toward Arthur.

A more accomplished wizard could have resisted it with magic, but they were helpless. That's why even his friends had felt fear toward him.

Thus that evening, Arthur's emotions were mixed. In a way he was happy to see Hermione laughing with the others and teaching them things from her books, or Elena who sat next to a group of Slytherin girls, obviously happy too.

Even Peter and Karol sat next to purebloods that evening, sharing their stories and becoming friends. But on the other hand, he, the big bad Arthur, was alone, eating in the corner of the table with no one within three meters around him.

At that time Arthur thought that his friends just found new friends and was happy for them, but seeing how they act today… They don't intend on coming back, do they?

Maybe I shouldn't have provoked Elena so much with fights?

Maybe I shouldn't have hit Peter for mocking me?

Maybe I shouldn't have talked to Malfoy next to Karol?

Maybe I shouldn't have included them yesterday…

No. No. No. No. I'm not the one in the wrong, they are the short-sighed traitors. I shouldn't have tried to befriend wizards. It was a mistake.

Grindelwald shall use others, not laugh with them.

Grindelwald shall charm others, but not help them.

The shadow below Arthur began growing in size, but fell back quickly.

McGonagall, who was watching from her desk, now understood.

Yesterday was the usual meeting the teachers would have every week, where they would talk about their week and help his each other. She had learned that Arthur had buried every other student of his class, leaving only their head out of the ground.

She had been horrified and furious at first, but hearing the specifics from Dumbledore who watched everything she couldn't help but respect the boy. She even truly believed for the first time that he was absolutely different from his notorious great grandfather.

First the boy had loosened the earth around them using transfiguration to make sure they wouldn't suffocate and could get out easily with the help of the teachers.

But the consequences of what he did was what made her truly respect him. With a few spells and words he had succeeded in doing something no one had ever done before. He had made all bullying stop amongst first years! All!

Be it in her house or in Slytherin, that evening they saw with their own eyes how united first years seemed to be. They all had the same goal, challenging Arthur. As for the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, they too had joined that alliance made in an afternoon.

But today, what she saw wasn't the back of someone who was happy and proud. No, it was something far more commendable and impressive.

What she saw, was Arthur's lonely back. Not proud about his accomplishment or arrogant. No. He was lonely. He sacrificed his own happiness for the greater good. And it hurt. She could see it.

She opened her mouth and wanted to speak to him, but her throat was dry, the words painfully stuck in her throat. Then she was stunned when she felt her cheeks were wet. She had shed tears for the boy's courage and resolution.
