His Little Pet

I sat by myself in one of the booths at the bar as everyone else was drinking and having a good time. I watched as they all danced around, sang karaoke, and just enjoyed themselves. Lilith of course was all some guy she just met, sharing drinks and laughing together.

I got up and strolled over to the bar, ordering another drink for myself. I sat there sipping at the drink, lost in my own thoughts. I didn't even hear or see him sit down next to me.

"You seem to be really enjoying yourself."

I look up to see Aushi sitting next to me at the bar.

"Huh? Uh, not really. This isn't really my thing, I was just dragged out with everyone because it's my birthday. I'm just waiting to go home."

He lifted his glass to the side of mine, clanking them together.

"I see, Happy Birthday then Zylith. I would expect someone to be having fun while out with friends on their birthday."

"Thank you. I just don't care much for my own birthday, that's all."

He motioned for the bartender, finishing his drink in hand.

"I guess I can understand that. Let me at least by you a drink this time. Or would you prefer another coffee date?"

He gave that same alluring smile just as he did before.

"I guess I'll go ahead and take that drink now then."

We sat and talked for a moment before I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned to see Roman standing beside me. He gripped my shoulder a little more, pulling me towards him slightly.

"You made it. I was wondering if you were going to show up."

I smiled up at him and he smiled back at me.

"Of course I would, it's your birthday after all."

We got interrupted by Aushi trying to subtly clear his throat.

"Roman, what a surprise to see you here. How are you?"

"I'm fine, thank you Aushi. Is it unusual for me to go out with some employees for another's birthday? Really, it's quite a surprise to you here."

Aushi finished the new drink he was handed, this time not looking at Roman as he spoke.

"Actually, it is. I've never known you to go out for an employees birthday. I on the other hand just came out for a drink, looking for a new face to engage with. Quite the usual for me, wouldn't you say?"

I looked at Roman, his facial expression not wavering.

"Well, maybe I was in need of something new as well. That would be quite the usual for you, yet here you are, striking up a conversation with a familiar face. I'm sure you had some other plans in mind after this, didn't you?"

Aushi seemed a little taken aback. I don't think he expected that response from Roman. He pulled himself back though, plastering that signature smile back on his face.

"As I'm sure you're well aware, no man could resist the d.e.s.i.r.e to try and engage with such an astounding woman as Zylith here. Although I'm a little confused on why it's of any interest for you. I mean, she's perfectly capable of making her own decisions. It's not like you two are dating."

He grabbed another drink and started in on that one as well. He was quite loud when he said that, and I felt my face heat up as I noticed the other coworkers starting to stare. Maybe I can just slip away unnoticed...

"Actually, we are. So I'd appreciate it if you'd respect that, as an old friend, and not try and engage with her in that way."

The whole bar fell silent. At least of everyone there from the company. My head shot up to look at Roman, then Aushi, then at everyone from work. Small chatter began to fill the silence amongst them all and it was like I was frozen there. My body didn't know what to do, should I just stay sitting? Should I get up and run away as quick as possible?

I was still shocked at what Roman said. He was the one who said to keep it on the low about us after all. And now he basically just announced that we are together in front of a bunch of people from the office? All because he thought Aushi was being a little too friendly towards me? Was he trying to show a little possessiveness over me to get him to back off?

"I see. Then as your friend, I'll respect that and back off. I remember what happened last time someone got between you and your girl, and I'd like that not to happen to me. I just wish I'd gotten the chance to rope her in first..."

"Glad we have an understanding on this. It was nice seeing you Aushi, but I think we'll be heading out now."

Roman then reached down and grabbed my hand in his, pulling me to my feet. We headed towards the door to leave and I turned back around to take a quick glance. Lilith was smiling ear to ear at me, the chatter between everyone else grew a bit louder, and Aushi just sat there with a look of defeat on his face. I kind of felt bad for the poor guy...

We stepped out of the bar and I stopped, slightly tugging at Romans arm as he went to keep walking. He turned around and looked down at me.

"What was that Roman? Everyone in there heard what you said, I thought you didn't want people to-"

I didn't get to finish what I was trying to say, because at that moment he leaned down and crashed his lips over mine. His hands grabbed at my waist and pulled me closer into him. He kissed me aggressively but pationatly, like he had this insatiable hunger for me.

I wrapped my arms around his neck and kissed him back. Everytime he kissed me it was like everything else didn't matter. It all just disappeared. I loved that moment, being free of all worries.

He pulled away and looked into my eyes, catching his breathe before saying anything.

"That was me letting everyone know that you're mine. I don't care that they heard, I want everyone to know. I'll tell the whole world if I have to. I want people to know not to try and come onto you because you're taken. I don't care, as long as I have you with me."

I didn't know how to respond to that, so I said nothing. I just wrapped my arms around his waist and hugged him. I didn't want to let go, not now, not ever.
