His Little Pet

Chapter 20 - No More Misunderstanding

"Zylith... Zylith wait! It's not what you think!"

I scrambled to toss Miss Hill off of me, what I should have done the moment she started in on me. I turned to Miss Hill, who was now picking herself up off the floor.

"Leave. Now."

I said it in such a stern tone, I swear I saw her tremble the second the words left my mouth. I didn't care though, I just needed to get to Zylith and explain everything to her. I headed down the hallway, but she was nowhere in sight. I checked her office, every possible restroom on our floor, the marketing department, and break room. But still nothing.

I finally made my way to Miss Lin in her department. I pulled her away from her desk and out in the hall.

"Has Zylith come through here?"

She looked at me with a puzzled look.

"No, why would she come through here now? What's going on, is she alright?"

Now she showed a look of concern.

"I don't know... She mistook what she saw and ran off. I haven't been able to find her. I've checked everywhere on our floor, and she's not picking up the phone."

She quickly pulled out her phone and called Zylith.

"Let me try, maybe she'll pick up for me."

I stood there as the phone rang and rang before going to voicemail. She tried again, this time it forwarded her straight to the voicemail. She stood there thinking for a moment.

"Try the little family diner down the road, her parents used to take her there all the time as a kid. After their accident, that's usually where she goes when she's upset."

"Thank you."

I quickly took off out of the building, and stared to head to the diner. We pulled up and I jumped out of the car, quickly but casually stepping inside, trying not to make too much of a scene.

I looked around, finally spotting her. She sat at the back of the diner in the last booth with her head down. I made my way over, sitting across from her. She still just sat there in silence, head down, both hands around a huge mug of what looked like hot cocoa.

"Zylith.."

Nothing.

"Zylith please look at me."

Still nothing.

"Kätzchen" I said in a pleading tone.

She lifted her head that time, still not quite making eye contact with me though.

"Do you call every girl you try to seduce into bed that?"

I was genuinely taken back by that. Not the response I was expecting. Sure, she's obviously hurt by what she saw, even though she's got it all wrong, but those words still stung as she said them.

"Of course not. I'm not trying to seduce anyone, what you saw was a misunderstanding. Please just let me explain."

"I don't see how her straddling you could be explained as anything other than just that."

I sighed at that response, because she was right. How do you try to explain something like that?

"It was just supposed to be a routine check in, for her to come back to work. She assumed she was getting her position back, and when I informed her that wasn't the case, she didn't like it. She accused you of sleeping with me to get the position, and assumed that if she did as well, that she would get her original job back."

Nothing back from her... So I continued.

"She climbed onto my l.a.p and tried coming onto me. That's when you walked in. Nothing happened, nothing was going to happen, and nothing will happen at all. I swear."

She looked back down, stiring her drink around.

"If that's true, then why didn't you try to get her off of you?"

"I told her to get off, she didn't listen. Then you walked in... I didn't really have time to react. I should have gotten her off of me the second it happened, I realize that. I was just thrown off by it all, I didn't know what to do. I swear that's the truth.."

I reached over the table and pulled her hands away from the mug, grabbing them in mine.

"I'm not interested in anyone else, I don't want the company of anyone else. The only one I want.. is you, Kätzchen."

She looked up again, this time looking me in the eyes.

"What is this Roman? I mean, what is this thing between us? Is it just some casual fling for you, or is it something more?"

"I guess what I'm trying to ask is, are we dating? I'm not really clear on what this is Roman."

I looked at her and smiled, c.a.r.e.s.sing her hand with my thumb.

"I didn't want to come straight out with it, I know you wanted to take your time with things. I've wanted that since the moment I laid eyes on you, and if you're up for it, then yes. I'd officially say that you and I, Kätzchen, are dating."

I got up and moved next to her in the booth, pulling her close into me with a hug. I pulled away and gazed into her beautiful eyes as they drew me in. I leaned down and gently placed a kiss in her lips. As soon as I touched her, it was like my body reacted on its own, kissing her again. Deepening the kiss with every passing second.

When I eventually pulled away, we both sat there catching our breath. I pulled her into me, not wanted to let go. Ever.

We got up to leave, heading out of the diner to the car. The driver stepped out, opening the door for us. I climbed in after her, grabbing her small hand in mine.

"Lets head back to the office. We still have a little bit of time to kill before the get together this evening. Speaking of which, why didn't you tell me it was your birthday today? I would have planned something for us later."

"My birthday isn't really something I care to celebrate. It's just another day... There's nothing different about it. I don't see why there's a need to go all out for it."

I just nodded in response. I'll just have to get something planned for tomorrow then, now won't I?
