His Little Pet

It's been a couple months since everyone at work found out about me and Roman. It was a bit awkward at first, whenever I stepped into a room everyone would go silent, whispering amongst themselves. Then it switched to everyone being way more friendly to me than I'd like... if I entered a room with others, they immediately offered to help with anything I needed, or offered to get me a coffee.

Lilith said it was because once it all sank in in their heads that I was dating the big boss, they wanted to make sure nothing bad ever came out of their interactions with me. They didn't want anything bad towards me getting back to him, for fear they would be fired. I mean he already threatened to fire Mr. Martin after that one incident, and we weren't even together at that time.

Now it's all kind of calming down. They're still a little more friendly around me than I'd like, but it's slowly dying down.

This particular day, everyone in the office was awkwardly silent. Roman was even a little more reserved than usual... keeping to himself and all. It got to the point that I ended up asking Lilith what was going on.

"You don't know? Today it's been four years since that incident with his ex. It always gets tense around here when this time comes. You should probably go see him, try and take his mind off all of this."

"I've tried seeing him earlier, he kept to himself, saying he just wanted to be alone for awhile. I guess I could try again.."

Well now I know. I should have realized... I remember Lilith telling me that all this happened just after his twentieth birthday. We just went out celebrating his twenty-fourth birthday last week.

I got with his driver that took me to his jet that time we went on that business trip, Mr. Ru, and got a few things planned for that day. It definitely wasn't quite as nice as what he did for my birthday, but he seemed quite thankful that I even did anything to begin with. And then it ended with some great s.e.x of course.

But still, it didn't cross my mind about what happened with his ex. So I made him a cup of coffee just how he likes, two cubes of sugar and no milk. I headed down the hall to his office but stopped as I reached the door and heard arguing. I leaned in a little closer to listen.

"I've already told you to leave, now get out before I call security up here to have you removed."

"Roman please would you listen to me."

A woman? I don't recognize the voice.. I wonder who she is.

"Who even allowed you to get in? Everyone here should know well enough that you're not ever welcome back in my company."

Should I leave? I feel like I'm eavesdropping on something that I shouldn't be.

"Roman please, I've said I was sorry more times than I could possibly count. If you don't want to see me, that's fine, I understand that. But you can't just push away your own flesh and blood."

Own flesh and blood? What is she talking about? I tried to listen in closer but I didn't know what he was saying, he started to ramble on in German. The one thing I could tell though was that he was NOT very happy with whoever was in his office.

"You can't just show up at my place of work, four years later, today of all days, and drop something like that on me. How could I ever trust or believe in you now after everything you put me through?"

"I can prove it! If you would just give me a little time, I'll get the professional tests done. I'll prove to you that he is your son."

At that moment I swear my heart stopped. Roman has a son? So does that mean the woman in his office is...

"Fine. I'll allow you time for that. But I don't want you to set foot in my company again until you have those test results. If what you say is true, then by all means I will take responsibility for the child. Now as I've already told you Airi, leave."

I didn't know what to do, what to think, so I did the only thing my body would let me do. And that was to run. I left the building without looking back and went straight to my apartment.

I texted Lilith when I got there, letting her know I had gone home for the day. I lied, saying I wasn't feeling all to well and not to bother me for awhile.

So Airi is back, and she says that Roman is the father of her son... And he said that he'll take responsibility for the kid if it's his. So what does that mean for me? I know how much he's wanted a family, so will he go back to her if the kid is his? Will they become the family that he's always wanted? Will he just toss me away then?

I crawled into bed and curled into a ball. I didn't want to lose Roman... being with him made me happier than I could ever explain in words. But now that was a possibility, and it wasn't one I wanted to think about.

I layed there with silent tears streaming down my face. I just wanted to sleep now, to wake up and have all of this be a bad dream...

I sat at my desk, fists clenched, anger streaming out of me. It's been four years since I left her, I haven't heard from her since then. And now she wants to show up, telling me that I'm the father of her son? Has she lost her mind?

Under other circ.u.mstances, I would have been happy to hear those words. Starting a family with the one I love is something I've always wanted.

But that wouldn't be the case now with Airi, I could never just let her back into my life as if nothing happened. I loved her with everything, I almost proposed to her for f.u.c.k's sake. But all of that was home now.

I still loved her for a couple years after that, while also hating her. But I can honestly say now that I no longer love her. If the child is mine by some chance, I'll of course be there for him. I couldn't just abandon him because of the past with his mother, but it would only be for him. Not for her.

I now had someone that I really did want to start a family with. And I wouldn't let Airi ruin that for me.

With that aside, I wonder what Zylith is up to right now. I should go find her, I haven't really seen her at all today.

I checked her office, but she wasn't there. I checked all over the office before I spotted Miss Lin down the hall. I ran to stop her.

"Have you seen Zylith lately? I haven't seen her around since this morning."

"She didn't tell you? She texted me earlier saying that she was headed home for the day, she wasn't feeling well. Before that she said she was going to stop by your office, she noticed you weren't quite yourself today so she wanted to check in on you."

She never stopped by my office though.. not since this morning.

"When was that?"

"About an hour and a half ago I suppose."

Oh no... that was about the time Airi was there. She didn't try to stop by then, did she? If so, that means she probably heard some of that conversation... Shit. I need to go check on her.

I turned and started heading down the hall, then was stopped by Miss Lin's voice again.

"Hey Mr. Li, who was that stopped by your office earlier? I haven't seen her around before... She had quite the attitude as well, didn't seem too friendly."

"That, Miss Lin, was Airi. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to check on Zylith."
