His Little Pet

Friend? Colleague? Was that really all he was? Was she already moving on and seeing someome else? I know its been a few months since we stopped seeing each other, but I didn't think she would move on that quickly. I couldn't stand the thought of her with someone else. Giving them her love, her kiss, her touch. Giving them her body... It angered me the more I thought about it, and next thing I knew I was sending my hand straight through the wall.

"M-Mr. Li... is everything alright?"

I looked over to see Kat standing in the doorway of my office, shaking a little with my cup of coffee in her hands.

I looked at the wall, then at my knuckles. They weren't bleeding, but they were red and all scratched up. I rubbed them with my other hand as I made my way to my desk, taking a seat. I motioned for her to come in and she slowly made her way to me, handing over the cup with trembling hands.

"Thank you Kat. You may leave now."

She quickly made her way back to the door, closing it behind her. I pulled out my flask from the drawer, pouring some into my cup. I was going to be needing a hell of a lot more than this though..

Kiba arrived at my apartment to pick me up. We were going to watch a movie then have dinner at the new little restaurant that recently opened up down the road from our workplace.

Kiba was all excited about going out tonight, more than usual... I tried to me, but once again, I couldn't get him out of my head... not since seeing him again the other day. How does he keep on showing up everywhere?

I tried to push him out of my head and enjoy the movie, but it wasn't working too well. I barely made it through the movie before we went out for the food. I still couldn't shake him, and Kiba could tell something was up.

"What's going on in that pretty head of yours?"

I looked up from my plate of food at him, startled from my thoughts.

"Huh? Nothing... why?"

"There's something that's bothering you. You didn't pay any attention to the movie tonight, you've been really quiet the whole time and... you haven't even touched your food. You've just been tossing it around on your plate. So, what's up?"

I put my fork down and sighed, knowing that he wouldn't drop this until I spilled.

"I don't know. I've just had a lot going through my mind lately. I'm fine, really."

"Does it have anything to do with Mr. Intimidating?"

I looked up at him and laughed a little.

"Roman? No... not really. And he's not intimidating."

That time he laughed.

"Not intimidating? The man looked like he wanted to rip each limb from my body... I swear he almost broke my hand to.."

He rubbed at the hand Roman shook the other day in a dramatic manner, I just rolled my eyes at him and started to finally eat some of my food.

"What was it about him that even drew you in? He doesn't seem like he would be your type."

I sighed a heavy sigh as I let my mind wander around for Roman this time, a small smile making its way to my lips.

"I don't know... there was just something about him that... intrigued me. He's not what he seems once you get to know him. He may look tough on the outside, and I won't lie, he is on the inside as well, but really he's just lost... he's been through a lot. He's actually very sweet and caring. He has a huge heart and he means well. He'll do anything to protect the ones he loves..."

Kiba finished his plate of food then called over for a bottle of wine. The server brought one over, pouring us each a glass.

"So if he was so perfect, why did you two split?"

"He tried to do everything to protect me, I know he did... but I uh, I got into this situation because of him. Because of his ex. And though we're both at fault for the things that happened... I couldn't push past it at the time. I guess it was just my heart and mind trying to protect me from anything else bad happening.."

He gave a sympathetic look but didn't question anything more, he knew he dug enough out of me already. We finished the food and wine in silence, before we started heading out. He parked around on the other block so we walked through the park to get back. I didn't mind though, I liked the scenic rout. It was beautiful with all the lights at night.

We stopped once we reached the huge fountain and he took a seat, gesturing for me to join him. I was wondering why we stopped, but took a seat anyways.

"What? Why did we stop?"

He looked at me and smiled, before pulling out a small case from his pocket, handing it to me. I gave him a confused look.

"What is this?"

"Just open it" he said with a smile.

I opened it up and inside was a beautiful silver necklace with my name in the center, connecting the two sides of the chain.

"I know you said you didn't want to do anything special, but you never said I couldn't get you a present... Happy birthday Zylith."

I looked up and he was smiling that sweet innocent smile at me. I didn't know what to say, so I just hugged him. I think I took him by surprise because he kind of just sat there for a moment before hugging back.

"Thank you, you really didn't have to get me anything. I love it though, it's beautiful."

We pulled out of the hug but he kept me close to him, looking into my eyes. He just kept staring until I finally looked away, then I felt his hand on my chin, lifting it up to face him. He slowly leaned in and placed his lips onto mine.. I was sort of in shock, I didn't know how to react.

My lips moved on their own against his, hoping to fill the void I felt inside. But it didn't, I didn't feel anything... and my mind could only go back to Roman. Wishing they were his lips against mine. My mind finally snapped out of it and I pulled away, standing up.

"I'm sorry Zylith... I shouldn't have done that. I just..."

"No... I'm sorry. It's my fault. I knew how you felt from the beginning, and I unintentionally led you on... hanging out with you all this time. Going to movies and dinners with you... I'm such an idiot... I'm sorry. You're such a great guy, and so sweet. I'm just, I'm not interested in that way. I should go..."

I started to walk off but he followed, grabbing my arm and stopping me.

"Zylith wait... it's not your fault. I knew you made it clear from the beginning that this was just a friendship, and I know I shouldn't have kissed you just now. I'm sorry... I don't want to lose your friendship over a kiss.. over a crush. Please just let me take you home."

"I think I'll just walk.. I need some air anyways. Goodnight Kiba... I'll uh, I'll see you tomorrow at work."

And then I started on my way again, this time he didn't follow. What am I supposed to do now? This isn't how things were meant to go...

I walked about a block or two before running into some obnoxious guys, whistling and cat-calling at me. I ignored what they said and kept walking, but they kept on.

"Hey, I'm talking to you, you bitch! How much for you to ride this d.i.c.k?"

He and his buddies all started laughing, making jokes. I rolled my eyes, spinning around slightly to face them as I continued to walk away.

"All the money in the world wouldn't be enough for me even to look at that thing."

I turned back around and threw up my middle finger over my shoulder. I was not in the mood tonight to deal with assholes...

That got him to shut up for a minute, but then it only angered him. He got closer and grabbed my a.s.s, so I instictivly spun around and slapped him.

"Get your hands off of me..."

He raised a hand to hit back but was stopped as someone grabbed it midway.

"She said to back off..."

I stepped back a bit and looked up, only to see Roman standing there.

"And what are you going to do about it, asshole?"

Oh boy... that was not in his best interest...

Roman grabbed his throat as one of his friends went to go after him. Roman grabbed him by the throat as well, lifting them both off the ground a few inches before slamming them into the concrete. Another one came running up and was knocked to the ground with one hit... the other two stepped back and sort of threw their hands up to say truce before picking up the guys on the ground.

"Are you alright? Did they hurt you?"

He reached over to me, checking to make sure I was okay.

"I'm fine.. really. What are doing here anyways? Why do you keep showing up around me..."

He raised an eyebrow at me as I asked it, like I was nuts or something.

"I own this company? I was just heading out.."

I looked around and sure enough, Li Enterprise was right there. How could I be so stupid? I threw my hands over my face to hide the embarrassment as he chuckled at me.

"Of course you do... right. Well uh, thank you for that. I should get going..."

I went to turn away but he grabbed my arm, spinning me around to face him again.

"Let me give you a ride" he insisted.

"I'm fine with walking, thank you though."

I turned to leave again and he grabbed my arm once more.

"Then let me walk you home... I would feel better knowing you got home safely."

I bit at my bottom lip as I thought about it. I would feel safer if I had him with me... especially after those creeps.

"Fine... let's go."
