His Little Pet

Chapter 31 - New Friend

I headed out of the office building, needing to get some air, to clear my head. To get HER out of my head... because she's the only thing that's been on my mind, I can't shake her. She's branded herself on my soul, and she doesn't even know it.

Before I know it I'm blocks away, bumping into someone. I get pulled from my thoughts to see their papers all fell to the ground, so I start collecting them, until I hear her voice...

"I'm so sorry. I wasn't-"

It was her. Her sweet, soft voice. The voice of an angel... my angel... the one that flew away from me. She slowly lifted her gaze up to me as I handed over some papers, stopping mid-sentence.

"Zylith.."

"Roman.."

We just stayed there, kneeling down in place as we staired back at eachother for a moment. It felt so good to see her face again, to hear her voice... it was as if the life started to flow back through me.

She slowly stood up, grabbing the papers from my hand and clutching them to her c.h.e.s.t. I followed, my gaze never leaving hers.

"How uh, how are you? How is everything? You look... you look wonderful. As always.."

"I'm good, everything is good.. I suppose. You look... exhausted. To say the least."

I couldn't help but chuckle at that. Modest as always. One of the things I loved about her.

"Good to see you haven't changed a bit, as charming as ever" I chuckled out.

She nervously smiled and ducked her head down as I saw the blush start to form over her cheeks. She brushed the hair out of her face, tucking it behind her ear, and I saw she still wore the bracelet I gave her.

"You... you still have it, I didn't think you would still wear it after..." I trailed off as I gestured to the silver around her small wrist.

She looked down at the jewellery on her wrist, then back up at me.

"Yeah.. I uh, I do..." she stopped, as if she had a realization.

"I'm sorry, did you want it back? Here-"

She fumbled to take it off and I grabbed her hands to stop her. She immediately froze, staring down at her hands in mine. I stroked the top of her hand with my thumb and I got the same feeling rushing throughout my body, the same as I always did before when we would touch.

"No, It's yours... keep it. Please..."

She removed her hands from mine and looked away, closing her eyes... squeezing them shut, before turning back.

"I need to get going.."

Before I could say anything else, she was making her way through the crowd of people. And just like that she was gone. Leaving me again... the life that flowed through me leaving once again.

"It's hard on her to you know."

I turn to see Lilith standing there, leaning against the wall, arms crossed, just staring at me.

"This wasn't how she wanted things to go. She misses you too. She never says it, but I can see it. It kills her inside to push you away, she just thinks she's protecting herself. You should try talking to her again..."

"She won't talk to me though.. I've tried. So many times.. She never responded back. She never picked up my calls.. you saw how she reacted towards me just now... I mean she literally just ran away from me. What am I supposed to do when she keeps running from this? She doesn't want to see me, she's made that clear. I just need to accept it."

She just scoffed as she stood up straight, unfolding her arms and walking away.

"Men... they're all p.u.s.s.ys."

What the hell just happened... did she really just call me a p.u.s.s.y? I'm not a p.u.s.s.y... am I?

I sat there in my small office cubical. I was trying to focus on getting my work done, but my mind just wouldn't focus. Not on my work at least...

Why couldn't I get him out of my head? No matter what I did he was always there. And seeing him yesterday... yeah, that didn't seem to help. Seeing his face, feeling his touch again. It sent shivers through my whole body.

As much as I wanted to forget about him, I just couldn't. I missed him. I missed his kiss. His voice. His touch... oh his touch. The way he touched me drove me insane. He knew exactly what to do to me. I couldn't help but think back to all the intimate times we shared.. my body wanting to feel him again...

"Hey Zylith,"

I snapped out of my thoughts at the voice coming from behind me. It scared me, making me jump from my seat.

"I'm soo sorry! I didn't mean to scare you! I..."

I turned to see Kiba standing there awkwardly. Hand nervously on the back of his neck.

"It's fine, don't worry about it. What is it I can help you with?"

I sat back in my seat, rubbing my temples. What is wrong with me? Get yourself together! My gaze fell back onto him as he shifted around a bit before saying anything.

"I uh, I was wondering... you know, if maybe you.."

He sort of trailed off, looking down at his feet. So I raised an eyebrow at him.

"You were wondering.. what?"

"I don't know, I wanted to see if maybe you would uh.. want to hang out..? Sometime after work maybe?"

Now I was the one who got a bit awkward... was he, asking me out? Great... just what I need right now. Why does the world hate me?!

"You want to, hang out? Outside of work.."

"Yeah... I don't know. Maybe get something to eat? See a movie? It's okay if you don't want to... I understand."

"Like a date?" I asked, raising my eyebrow at him again.

He shuffled around a bit again, running a hand through his hair, stopping at the back of his neck again.

"No no. Not a date... unless you wanted it to be?"

I let out a small sigh as I stood up in front of him. He was roughly my height, a little taller. He had silk looking chocolate brown hair, eyes to match. Skin a caramel color... slight toned and muscled.

"Look... Kiba. I appreciate the offer, I just.. I've recently gotten out of this... thing.. with someone. And I'm not really looking for anything, or anyone, right now. I'm sorry.. it was really sweet of you to ask though."

He kind of ducked his head down at my words, and I felt bad... he was a sweet guy. He was about my age, interning here temporarily. He was always friendly to everyone, but also really reserved.

"Oh, yeah no it's cool. I totally understand... I'll see you around then.."

Then he walked away, and I sat back down at my desk. I felt awful turnimg him down like that...

"Poor kid.. well at least he finally worked up the courage to ask."

I lifted my head to see Casey peering over her cubicle at me. She resided in the one next to me, about mid thirties or so. Super sweet as long as you didn't test her...

"What do you mean finally?"

"sweetheart, he's been trying to build up the courage to ask for about a week now. I was really rooting for him to..."

A week? He's been trying to ask me on a date for a week now? Now I felt really terrible for turning him away...

I looked back up but Casey was already back to her desk, finishing her work. I guess I should maybe get back to mine as well... I've had too much going on. It'll take my mind off of it. Hopefully...

I was startled awake by Casey banging on my desk. I shot up so quickly I almost tipped over in the chair.

"Time to go home, unless you want to locked in the building all night."

She chuckled a little as she walked away, and I started gathering my things up. When did I fall asleep? And how long WAS I asleep? I guess my tiredness is finally catching up to me...

I headed down the hall, everything dark. I didn't usually stay this late so it felt weird walking out with no one else in the building. That was until I ran into someone... knocking heads.

"I'm sorry" we said in unison.

I looked up to see that it was Kiba. He reached out his hand to help me up and I gladly took it.

"You're here late.. aren't you usually gone by now?"

"Yeah... I sort of fell asleep? Casey just woke me up."

We started to head out of the building, I made some small talk to fill the silence. We reached the exit and went to head out our separate ways, but somethimf stopped me, making me turn around.

"Kiba, wait,"

He turned back towards me with a questioning look.

"I was wondering... you still free for that movie?"

He smiled as I said it, clearly happy that I changed my mind, and I couldn't help but smile back.

***

We went and seen a movie that next night. As friends of course... I made sure to throw that out there a few times. I wasn't looking for anything with anyone in that way, but that didn't mean I couldn't make friends...

He had a lot more personality to him outside of work I noticed. We ended up hanging out quite a lot after work over the next month, he was actually really good company. He also kept me busy with things, which in turn kept my mind free of any invading thoughts of Roman..

"So what do we have planned for this weekend? A movie? Bowling?"

Kiba and I sat at the bakery down the road, trying to kill some time as we waiting for our movies time to start. He really did enjoy watching movies... that's for sure. We were always out seeing a new one.

"Whatever you decide, I'll tag along."

"Maybe we should do something a little... nicer. It is your birthday this weekend after all."

I looked at him now, a little shocked that he even mentioned it.

"What? No... I don't do things for my birthday. It's just another pointless day. We're not doing anything. End of discussion."

He sort of just sighed and rested his head in his hands.

"You're such a buzz kill when it comes to things like this you know?"

"Sorry, those are the rules-"

I stopped talking as I saw him walk in through the door, my heart instantly pounding. You have to be joking, what is he doing over this way? He never comes here...

I duck my head down in hopes that he won't see me.

"What are you doing Zylith? Are you alright..?"

Kiba lowered his head level with mine, not too sure what I was doing.

"Quiet. I'm trying to hide from some-"

"Zylith? Is everything alright?"

Damn... too late. I lifted my head to see Roman looking at me suspiciously. His gaze moving from me to Kiba.

"Roman.. hi. What brings you here? I've never known you to come over this way..."

He gave Kiba an intimidating look before turning back to me with the softest look possible.

"I was picking some things up for my mother... and who's this?"

Kiba extended his hand out to Roman, who roughly shook it. You could see the slight pained expression on his face as he tried to pull out of the grip.

"I'm Kiba... a friend of Zyliths... my, you have one strong grip..."

Roman let go of his hand and looked back to me.

"A friend?"

"And colleague.. yes Roman, I HAVE other friends..."

He huffed a bit before straightening his posture as his order was called... great timing.

"I guess I should be heading out. It was really great seeing you again, Zylith..."

He gave me that sweet, loving look as he always did before and my heart started pounding in my c.h.e.s.t. All I could do is give a simple smile back as he turned to leave, then let out the breath I didn't realize I was holding in. Kiba looked back as Roman left, then back to me.

"And who was that VERY intimidating, VERY strong man?"

"That would be Roman... my ex."
